SUPPORT FOR YOUR RSA
There has never been a greater need for the support of our members than now….
If our RSA is to maintain its strength we need you to make use of your services.
The new drink-driving laws are going to have an effect on our trading and we are doing
what we can make to sure you can drink here safely and enjoy a meal with friends.
Your Executive understands that the new laws may be something of a deterrent but we hope our safe and friendly environment will encourage you to keep up your patronage.
CEREMONIES
One of the key roles of any RSA is to organise and manage ceremonial occasions.
Despite light rain outside we ran a well-attended indoors Armistice Day remembrance service on 11 November, with
about 100 present, and we received favourable comment on the professionalism of the parade.
For that we are indebted to some of our younger members, Warrant Officer and former Executive member
Mark Compain, with help from Staff Sergeant Rod Toi and Chief Petty Officer Mark MacLean – all in the Reserves.
This year we are working more closely with the Kapiti Coast District Council as the World War One commemorations
unfold.
Late in January the upgrading of the Memorial Gates will be recognised with a public re-dedication service to be organised by the KCDC with support from us and we hope for a large turnout.
Guests will include the Baucke family whose Paraparaumu blacksmith relative hand-forged the gates in the early
1920s.
On 14 February we will be dedicating a new plaque on the gates which finally recognises all those younger service men
and women who have put their lives on the line for New Zealand in trouble spots around the world with little public recognition or acknowledgement.
The plaque will read “United Nations & Allied Coalitions Post-1945”
This is part of our “Welcome Home” project aimed at attracting younger serving and previously serving people into our
RSA by showing that Kapiti recognises their service, often in hazardous situations, and cares about their wellbeing.
HOLIDAY
Even RSA presidents take time off and from 8-22 December my wife and I will be touring some of the South Island.
Vice-president Adrian Ahern will deputise for me during my absence.
Best Wishes for a safe and enjoyable Christmas and thank you for your support.

Congratulations to Tuki Takiwa

Managers Corner
December 2014
~ What’s new and what’s happening around your club ~
Hi Folk,
Last week I spent two days at the Club NZ Annual Managers conference in Auckland.
Despite the social interaction aspect of such a conference you would be truly amazed at the
volume of work and knowledge-sharing these functions generate.
Club Managers never switch-off - every waking moment was spent talking about: what works—
what doesn't / what problem you have—how we fixed it / lets examine that problem—here’s the
answer to it / this is how the law works—are we all agreed on interpretation?, etc, etc.
This went on all night and every meal break. Its amazing how much info gets shared this way.
Our club was ‘right-up-there’ with much interest in our ‘Function Centre Status’ and how it might
help other clubs deal with their councils and restrictions on obtaining Special Licences.
However, it was quite clear that the current scrutiny and “interesting” interpretation of law placed
upon our club by the compliance folk at the KCDC was exceptionally greater, or unknown, by
every other club present. No-one else disclosed issues of the type and frequency we have been
subject to, including a new series of purported breaches of license operation.
President Chris and I have found it necessary to initiate an approach the KCDC senior staff
(again) to table our concerns about these function interpretation matters.
Please believe that our club takes exceptional care to meet its compliance obligations; to an
extent that seems greater than all of the other local clubs that I have surveyed, let alone others
nationally.
At this point the KCDC is considering our concerns and they have agreed to our request for a
combined club, council and police meeting January 2015 to agree-off rules that all three could
agree to and live by.

Welfare Report
Hello, to you out there, hope you are keeping well. As you all know
the law will change from the 1st December this year ,to a lower
rate of breath alcohol count for people 20 years and over.
So we have to take it easy with drinks and take advantage of the
clubs offers to assist with transport—including members option to
obtain half-price taxi fares. This leaves a minimal cost whilst you
still enjoy your night out!
Armistice Day 11th November this year - I thank those
people that came along - really well done .
Now we know just around the corner is Christmas , “whoopee”. School holidays will mean
that there’s children on the road. So keep your eyes open for those little kids ,we don't
need accidents in this area, or someone not having a family Xmas with the whole family
Now I have to say to you all, I am looking for some members to help with the
Welfare Section. If you would like to help out ,could you let Rachel know in our office in
which case I will contact you afterwards. Many thanks if you could contribute.
Well people ,Merry Christmas and have a good year. To my Committee, I wish you all the
best and thanks for your support during the year
Don't forget the Widows and Widowers Christmas party this Wednesday the 8th
December.
