EXALTED RULER MESSAGE
TRUSTEES MESSAGE
I hope everyone had a Happy
Thanksgiving. To recap November, I would
like to thank all who supported the Elks
Clay Shoot; it was a huge success again this
year and next year’s event looks even
better. Renee and her crew did a fantastic
job.
Don Custer and his crew put on a wonderful luncheon for
our local veterans on Veterans Day. We should never forget
what a precious gift all of our Veterans have given to us ---our
freedom.
I am, however, disappointed in the turn out that we had for
our Charity Ball; this event is designed to assist our Lodge in
helping needy families of our community during the holidays
by providing food baskets. Remember, as Elks, we shoulder
that responsibility. Donations can still be made in the office
or at the bar if you would like to help with this cause.
Now, on to December. We have many events scheduled
for the month. December 7 is our Elks Memorial to honor all
of our Elks who have passed away this year. This is truly a
touching ceremony and will be followed with a breakfast
buffet by Wayne and DeDe.
We will also be decorating the Lodge for the holidays
during the first week or so of this month; come up and help if
you get the chance. We also have our Elks Christmas Party
on December 20; this party is for Elk members and their
guests. It will start at 5 pm and the gift exchange will begin at
6 pm followed by music and dancing. Bring a dish to share,
hope to see you all there.
We will also be conducting our ANGEL TREE Project
again this year. You will notice the Youth Activities
Christmas Tree by the Lodge Room door. It will have
WHITE tags hanging on it. These tag will have the
information needed to purchase gifts for our pre-selected
needy family members. This information will let you know
the gender of the child, age and sizes of the requested gift,
along with the color they would like. We would like to
suggest a $25 limit per gift/tag, but feel free to spoil these
children if you would like. After selecting a tag, purchase the
gift, deliver the wrapped gift back to the Lodge by Friday,
December 19 at 7 pm. Please tape the tag to the gift so we
will know whom it is for. We will be delivering the gifts on
Saturday, December 20. If you would like to help deliver the
gifts to these children, or if you would like to purchase gifts
for an entire family, please let me know. Thank you for
helping to make Christmas happen for these children.
There will NOT be a Lodge Meeting on Tuesday,
December 23. Have a great holiday season. I hope to see all
of you at the Lodge sometime this month. Thank you for
everything you do.
ELKDOM, A 150 YEAR LEGACY, ARE YOU DOING
YOUR PART?
I hope everyone had a good
Thanksgiving.
Due
to
Betty
Archambault’s persistence and your
charitable donations the Lodge has been
able to finance wheelchair accessible
desks for Snow Canyon High School.
(See article below. )
Tim Murray
Jim Delaney and his brother Dan have been doing a lot
of repairs at the Lodge, so thank you for all that you and your
Lodge Improvement Committee do for the Lodge. There will
be some new signs posted in the parking lot that will state:
PARK AT YOU OWN RISK, and also we will be posting
speed limit signs on the driveways and parking lot and some
pedestrian signs as well. It seems that we still have a problem
with people parking in the NO PARKING zones for a long
period of time. All I ask is have a little respect for the Lodge.
If you are dropping off and only going to be a second or two,
that is different than parking and going to the Club Room for a
drink or whatever. The Lodge does have the ability to have a
car or motorcycle towed if needed.
Have a Merry X-mas and come to the events that are
going on at the Lodge - it will be a month of good times.
Thank You.

YOUR CHARTIY DOLLARS AT WORK
Snow Canyon High
School student Marshal
Simmons noticed that
several fellow students in
his special needs
classroom did not have
proper desks for their
needs. Four students in
his class had desks that would not allow them to pull their
wheelchair up under the desk—they were sitting to the side of
the desk and twisting sideways perform basic tasks, such as
writing.
Marshall decided to take matters into his own hands and
contacted the us for assistance. After checking with the school
and the Washington County School District, it was discovered
the school district was aware of the situation, but had
determined special desks were an unnecessary expense.
Marshal and the Lodge did not agree with their assessment.
Therefore, the Lodge presented Marshal and special education
coordinator, Rod Lindford, with a check to allow Snow Canyon
High School to purchase four handicap classroom desks. As the
check was presented to Marshall, he was congratulated on his
concern for his fellow students and persistence in acquiring the
funds to correct a poor learning environment.

EYEFAIR
On October 25, the Lodge put on an Eye Fair for
Washington County students in grades K-9. While waiting
for an eye exam, the children played carnival type games,
had their faces painted, watched movies, got prizes and
enjoyed refreshments.
Doctors from Paradise Canyon Eye Care and Clear
View Eye Care Center donated their time to provide vision
screening for nearly 100 children. Of those, 37 children
needed additional vision care and/or glasses from the
doctors. Funds from an ENF Promise Grant covered the
cost for 20 children. Through the generosity of the
doctors, Lodge
members, Trustees, the LOE, Past
Presidents of LOE, Widows of Elks, and the Salvation
Army enough additional money was donated to help nearly
every child in need who attended the Eye Fair.
Thanks to Wayne Preston and the Salvation Army, the
Latinos in Action club from Snow Canyon Middle School
who translated for Spanish speaking families, the LOE
who baked cookies for the Cookie Walk, Donna MacBean
who made sure the Lodge was spic and span, the scouts
from Troop #0509 who made the clean up go so fast, and
the 30 plus Elk volunteers who helped run the games, greet
and sign in kids, fill out paperwork, hold eye charts, pass
out refreshments, paint faces, and much more.
A SPECIAL THANKS to Dr. Joseph Fife (Paradise
Canyon Eye Care) and Dr. Shaune Wallace (Clear View
Eye Care) for donating their time and money to help
children see and do better in school. The Eye Fair was a
huge success and made a big impact on our community. It
is an honor to be part of an organization that does so much
good for so many.

December is the month of giving, and no one is more aware of that then the Lady of Elks. Please visit
our Christmas boutique in the lobby on Wednesdays and Fridays through December 19. You will find crafts

co-workers. Proceeds from this month-long event will go to our many worthy LOE charities.
December 9 is the LOE Christmas party. See the article below. Thank you to Shirley Fromknecht for
chairing this event. Also please note that the LOE will NOT be meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
As you make room for your Christmas gifts this year, don’t forget the Chinese Auction in January.
This is a great place for those items you no longer want or need!
I wish you all a happy and safe Christmas. May we all be mindful of our blessings and show kindness

private holiday parties.
I am looking forward to next year. Be
thinking of what you want to learn next and
vote for your choice. Several have already
voted for Waltz. Thanks for all your

FLYING FISH PROGRAM BEGINS AGAIN
The Flying Fish swim program for disabled
children begins again, starting Wednesday,
January 7 and will meet the first and third
Wednesday of every month through October. This
program has proved to be very beneficial in helping those
with a disability increase their confidence and coordination
both in and out of the water.
Volunteers are needed to help with the program. In
the pool volunteers will assist in teaching different swim
strokes. Poolside volunteers distribute life jackets,
floating devices, time lapses, and offer encouragement. It
is not required to attend every session, but any help you
can provide will be greatly appreciated. For more
information or to volunteer, contact me at 435-986-9099.
