With the combined forces of Huddersfield Boys,
Girls & Youth Choirs and St. Patrick’s Church
Adult Choir, all under the leadership of Parish
Music Director, Lucy Appleyard,

perfect introduction to the Christmas season.
There will be mulled wine and mince pies served
afterwards. Entry is FREE

he Churches Together in the Colne Valley
prayer service for December will be held in
the Portacabin (due to work in the church) at
Holy Family, Slaithwaite this Wednesday (17
December) and will be led by Deacon Andrew
Phillips.
Phillips It will begin at 11am, is open to all and
will be preceded by tea, coffee and mince pies!
DEANERY DAY OF RECONCILIATION
he traditional Advent Deanery Day of
Reconciliation,
Reconciliation will be held in St. Patrick’s
Church this Saturday (20 December.)
Priests will be available to hear Confessions,
Confessions
from 9am to 11.45am and 12.30pm to 5.45pm

It is an ideal opportunity to receive prepare
sacramentally for Christ’s coming at Christmas.
PERU CRAFTS STALL
atsey Toher from the Leeds Diocesan Peru
Commission will be at St. Patrick’s this
(13--14 December) to sell crafts made in
weekend (13
Peru.
The money raised from these crafts directly raise
funds for the women workers from the shanty
town on the outskirts of Lima.
She will be at St. Patrick’s for all four of the
Masses over the weekend.
Please visit the stall whilst you are in church
this weekend and ask her about the work of the
Leeds Diocesan Peru Commission.

RELIGIOUS POEM COMPETITION
ntries are invited for the annual Religious
Poem Competition.
Competition The winner’s chosen
church will receive £250 and ten free books.
Anyone can submit up to three poems for the
competition.
There is no age limit and no entry fee. The poem
can be a prayer, words for a hymn, a description
of an uplifting moment, a religious experience,
about a person or your church - anything you
like, as long as there’s a religious theme.
However, you can’t use Religious Poem as your
title. Send up to three poems, of no more than 25
lines (including blank lines) and 160 words each
by 31 January 2015 to: Religious Poem, United

no record of their attendance at Sunday Mass.

our prayers are requested for the repose of
the soul of Fr. Michael Powell,
Powell a priest of
the diocese, who has died and whose Requiem
Mass takes place this Friday (19 December.)
During his 41 years as a priest, Fr. Michael
served in many places, including time in this
deanery at St. Joseph’s, Brighouse.

LITTLE STARS CHRISTMAS TREE
or some, Christmas is a time to remember.
With this in mind there is a Little Stars
Christmas Tree now in place in the main
entrance of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
Infirmary
The Tree of Remembrance allows all who would
like to, to place a silver star on it, to remember
those lost through stillbirth or miscarriage.
The tree stands prominently in the hospital and
will remain there until 6 January 2015.
The stars, which are free of charge, are available
from the Main Enquiry Desk at HRI. They
allow those who wish to, to leave a message on the
tree in remembrance of a baby who never had the
chance of life.

CHRISTMAS OFFERINGS 2014

the parish at all the Christmas Masses,
Masses i.e.
those on the evening of Christmas Eve and the
morning of Christmas Day itself, is the people’s
gift to the priests of the parish for their work
throughout the year. This year the offertory
envelope packs do include Christmas!
CHRISTMAS BROADCASTS
n Christmas Eve Radio 4 broadcasts the
Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols from the
Chapel of Kings College, Cambridge at 3pm.
Carols from Kings will be broadcast later on
BBC2 at 5.25pm. Later still on Christmas Eve
Eve, at
11.30pm, Radio 4 will broadcast Midnight Mass
11.30pm
live from Westminster Cathedral and BBC1 will
broadcast Midnight Mass live from Arundel
Cathedral from 11.45pm
11.45pm.
PARISH ROOMS APPEAL
lthough the initial target for the Parish
Rooms Appeal has been reached, the appeal
is still open for further donations. This is due to
the costs of furnishing the building, and also due
to certain unforeseen additional costs that were
incurred - especially £11,000 to connect the gas
mains to the building.
So, thank you for all your support thus far and if
you would like to donate further, any offering
would be gratefully received.
