This first half of the 2014-15 year seemed to start in a somewhat disjointed fashion. Perhaps brought about by the installation of some minor changes and the uncertainty of our Club’s path ahead. I am pleased to observe that the conduct of Rotary business continued without falter. We came up against a few obstacles that have brought pause to a couple of plans but overall, when called to perform, Rotarians have done just that. The winter months are never kind to us when it comes to outdoor activity and on the turn of the weather, we’ve had the likes of the 150th Anniversary of Healesville take precedence. Nevertheless, although not up to expected use yet, we have managed to roll out our latest asset, the barbeque trailer, and thus prove to ourselves it will bring revenue. Our part in the celebration of the township’s 150th Anniversary was marked in a small way by our inclusion in the Street Parade early in November. Following that, we see the completion of the Healesville HistoriPage 4 December 18th, 2014 cal Walk, a project opened yesterday and destined to appear on the front page of the Mail newspaper this week. John Robinson is the imagineeer of this project and his contact with the Healesville Historical Society, Council staff and contractors has seen an admirable example of connectivity and thus ensured the success of this project. We have all had a chuckle as we’ve ribbed Bob Earl over the emerging control over our bookeeping. We have laughed over a matter we all know to be very important and we can now be cognizant of Bob’s determination to transform from cabinetmaker to bookeeper, well done Bob! I could list many of our members, who when asked, have willingly put their shoulder to the wheel and performed for Rotary. As a first time President and a relative newcomer, I have enjoyed the high level of attendance of Rotarians at our meetings, the increasing willingness to hold our club together, the fellowship displayed to each other and outsiders and bubbling along under all of us, that ever present, “Service Above Self” It makes me very proud to say that I too, am a Rotarian. Merry Christmas to all and looking forward to the New Year. Regards, Don
