FROM THE INTERIM PASTOR
I hope you were here Saturday night or
Sunday morning, to share in our Worship Choir
and Orchestra presentation of “Three Gifts.” If
you could not be here you missed a blessing. I
want to congratulate and thank our choir and
orchestra for a job well done. You led us in worship and as the song says “Surely the Presence
of the Lord was in this place.” I am already looking forward to our next musical.
I am also looking forward to our Christmas Eve
service. I hope you can include it in your Christmas plans. It will begin at 7:00 PM. We will
light the final candle in the Advent Wreath, hear
the Christmas story in scripture and song and
share in the Lord’s Supper. Please plan to
attend.
The church office will be closed next Wednesday, December 24th through Friday, December
26th. Due to the reduced office hours there will
be no newsletter next week. Please feel free to
contact me at home (540-310-4841) or on my
cell phone (540-840-7332) if you have ministry
needs.
There will be No 8:30 service on December 28th
(the weekend following Christmas).

Alan’s NEWS!
Winterfest Update – 12/30 – 1/1
We have a total of 14 people signed up for
Winterfest (9 youth and 5 adults). If you
haven’t already been praying for this trip,
please add us to your list. Specific prayer
needs are safe travels, positive attitudes, and that God
uses the speakers and musicians to speak truth into the
hearts of the youth and adults in attendance.
If you are going with us, Medical Release forms are
required. Pick one up at church or let Alan know and
he can e-mail it to you.
If you are in Middle School… - 12/28 3:00-5:00pm
Don’t forget that we’re heading to
Massaponax on Sunday, December 28th
for bowling and all –you-can-eat pizza
at the Liberty Center (5801 Southpoint
Centre Blvd). The cost is $10, but drops to only $7 if
you donate some children’s winter apparel (coat, hat,
gloves, etc.) for distribution at a local elementary
school. And as an added bonus, if your high score
beat’s Alan’s high score, he will refund your cost for the
night.
Wednesday night bus?
I haven’t heard back from anyone since my question last week
about having a Wednesday night
bus run, so continuing my question for one more week just in case you missed it. If
you would be willing to drive the church bus on a
Wednesday night, or would come to church if the bus
was able to pick you up, please let Alan know. We are
still in the early stages of exploring this possibility, but
need to know if there is a need and volunteers available to meet it.
Changes to church magazine distribution

As I walked through the church today
and counted up how many copies of
our various December magazines
(Home Life, Mature Living, Open Windows, Parent Life, etc…) were still
hanging around, and I noticed that there were still
quite a few left over. The cost of these left-over magazines came to over $150. To better manage these resource, we won’t be delivering these to the Sunday
School classrooms starting in January. Instead, we’ll
distributing these via the rack located in the Sanctuary access
hallway behind the organ. If you enjoy reading these magazines,
please be sure to note the new January distribution location to
grab your copy.
Upcoming parent/leader workshop events
If you have children or youth in your
home, or work with children or youth at
church, please mark your calendars.
Starting in 2015, we’ll be holding some
quarterly workshop events focused on
children and youth. These events aren’t mandatory, but these
will be great opportunity for you to meet other parents, get to
know your child’s leaders, share your ideas with others, voice
your concerns, and hear some new ideas to help guide children
and youth towards adulthood. Lunch will be provided.

Dear Fairview,
As we near Christmas, I wanted to provide you an update on
our search for a new pastor. While I’m not going to go into
details, I will tell you that the search team has been meeting regularly and we have made good progress. We reached out to various Baptist associations, seminaries and posted the announcement in the appropriate publications. We are currently
accepting resumes and frankly they have been pouring in.
Our plan is to collect resumes through the New Year and then
start the review process. During this time, we will be in a very
intense time of prayer and candidate review and relying on the
Lord to give us discernment on the selection of our next pastor.
Please keep the team and our families in your prayers. While
we will be working as diligently as possible, we will not rush the
Lord’s plan. As we all know, His sense of timing is always perfect.
The good news is that the Lord already has our next pastor
selected. He has a plan to ensure that our paths will cross and
obstacles will be cleared from the path. Please continue to pray
for the Lord’s will to be at work and also for our next pastor.

Dear Fairview Friends & Family,
Our sincere thanks to all of you for the many
acts of kindness and concern shown to us during my
knee surgery and recovery. Also, in the loss of our
family members. We are so appreciative of the prayers, food, calls, cards and visits. Fairview is blessed to have so many kind
and generous members and we are so grateful to all of you.

Food Pantry News:
This past Saturday, we were blessed to serve 33 families in the Food Pantry for a total of 111 people. The
Baptist Men served all the clients a hot breakfast which
was enjoyed by all. We were so blessed to have lots of
food to distribute including beef, whole chickens, pork, hot dogs, pizza, sausage,
and lots of fresh produce including potatoes, apples, clementines, and oranges. What a blessing.
While we were at Food Lion spending the $140 in certificates from Nelson ‘s
office, one lady heard us talking about the pantry and asked what we needed. She asked us not to leave and a few minutes later she gave us 4 bags full of
canned vegetables and 1 bag full of spaghetti sauce. While we were checking
out, the man behind us in line also asked about the pantry and asked if we
could use 20 lbs. of rice. Of course we said yes, and here he came with the
rice. We are so blessed that so many people want to help our pantry and allow
us to serve so many others.
