The Call to Worship Our Great and Gracious God
Pastor: Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because he has come and has redeemed his people.
People: He has raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of his servant David as he said
through his holy prophets of long ago.
Pastor: Praise be to the Lord who has shown mercy
to our fathers and remembered his holy covenant,
the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
People: To rescue us from the hand of our enemies,
and to enable us to serve him without fear
in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
Pastor: Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom
of our God and the authority of his Christ have come.
All:
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Luke 2:68-75, Revelation 12:10, Isaiah 9:6
We Praise Our Lord in Song
God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen
God rest you merry, gentlemen,
Let nothing you dismay;
Remember Christ our Savior
Was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan’s pow’r
When we were gone astray.
O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,
O tidings of comfort and joy!
From God, our heavn’ly Father
The blessed angel came,
And unto certain shepherds
Brought tidings of the same;
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by name.
“Fear not, then” said the angel,
“Let nothing you affright;
This day is born a Savior
Of a pure virgin bright,
To free all those who trust in him
From Satan’s pow’r and might.”
Go, Tell It on the Mountain
Go, tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born!
While shepherds kept their watching
O’er silent flocks by night,
Behold, throughout the heavens
There shone a holy light.
Down in a lowly manger
Our humble Christ was born,
And God sent us salvation
That blessed Christmas morn.
The Old Testament Lesson
Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I
have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will
not cry aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he
will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully
bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established
justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his law.
Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who
spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it
and spirit to those who walk in it: "I am the LORD; I have called you in
righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a
covenant for the people, a light for the nations.
Isaiah 42:1-6
Emmanuel (Hallowed Manger Ground)
What hope we hold this starlit night,
A King is born in Bethlehem;
Our journey long, we seek the light
That leads to the hallowed manger ground.
The Son of God, here born to bleed;
A crown of thorns would pierce his brow;
And we beheld this offering,
Exalted now, the King of kings;
Praise God for the hallowed manger ground!
Emmanuel, Emmanuel!
God incarnate here to dwell.
Emmanuel, Emmanuel,
Praise his name, Emmanuel!

Offertory: Brightest and Best
R. Heber/K. Wilkinson
Eil
Hail the blest morn, when the great Mediator
Down from the regions of glory descends;
Shepherds, go worship the babe in the manger;
Lo, for his guard, the bright angels attend.
Brightest and best of the sons of the morning,
Dawn on our darkness and lend us thine aid;
Star in the east, the horizon adorning,
Guide where our infant Redeemer was laid.
Cold on his cradle the dew drops are shining,
Low lies his bed with the beasts of the stall;
Angels adore him, in slumbers reclining;
Maker and Monarch and Savior of all.
The New Testament Lesson
Luke 2:22-35

JOY UNMEASURABLE
“Joy to Those Who Wait”
We Respond in Prayer and Praise
O Come, All Ye Faithful
O come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him,
Born the King of angels!
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
Christ, the Lord!
God of God, Light of Light,
Lo, he abhors not the Virgin’s womb;
Very God, begotten not created.
Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above;
Glory to God,
All glory in the highest!
