Dear loving friends, Since the bulletin goes out early, I could not catch up with the happenings in the parish. Here I come with a thank you note for the Knights of Columbus members who did our community dinner last Sunday. I thank sincerely all the members who took part in the community dinner and also express a word of gratitude for their active participation for the Christmas in Canaan. We all together make the message of Baby Jesus and we become the missionaries in proclaiming the Gospel. I also thank all those who participated in the Christmas in Canaan to make it a successful one. The music ministry, singers, social committee members etc… we opened our church and parish hall for those who came to look for a place to share their giftedness and talents. Thanks friends for all you do for our parish. In fact, when I look into the matter, it was a proclamation from our Church, accepting everyone. I hope you all had a good Christmas celebration. I am sure that many of you have tried to have a good Advent journey to prepare for Christmas. Thanks for collaborating with me. Together we can make a difference in our life and in the life of our parish. Thanks a lot. 2014: “Bless the LORD, my soul; all my being, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, my soul; and do not forget all his gifts, who pardons all your sins, and heals all your ills.” (Ps. 103:1-3) Just reflecting on the year 2014 that God gave us: it was a blessed year we had in our parish. I do not give you a summary of 2 pages, rather just reflect that each month we had programs to bring us under an umbrella, to work for the glory of God. I thank all the volunteers who worked with me for the success of our ministry in our parish. I also thank Dorothy Campbell, our Religious Education Coordinator, and DebraLee Hurley who does the office works. Many hands work together for the success of a dream to be realized. We have achieved many things in our parish; spiritual and social aspects are growing day by day. Friends, I thank all the volunteers, ministries and Knights of Columbus members who all work together for the success of our parish ministry. Thanks to one and all. I also thank all the parishioners who donate their best for the daily running of our parish and for your generosity. It means a lot for me and to our parish. Wholeheartedly I express sincere thanks friends. As we end 2014, it’s a time to examine our conscience, how do we respond to God and to our neighbor… let us try to make good resolution to make some changes, not many, this coming year 2015. May the loving God bless all of you, your friends and your families. Anniversary: Friends, I want to share with you a special note: We celebrate all couples on their wedding anniversary. Here I come with my anniversary. I have never told you my anniversary day of ordination. This coming year, January 1st, I finish my 15 years as a religious priest and enter my 16th year. Out of these years I was here with you almost five and half years and in the States almost 8 years. More than 50% of my priestly life was here. I want to thank you again friends for accepting me and supporting me in my ministry here and many have shared with me about the weekend homilies. Many are inspired by the message of God who strengthens me to share with you. I am thanking God for His continuous guidance and inspiration and also saying a word of thanks to all of you, my families here in Enfield and Canaan. Thanks again friends, and I want to wish you a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year! May our loving God continue to lead/ guide us His chosen people. Blessings to all. Fr. (Genesis 15:1-6 & 21:1-3; Hebrews 11:8-19; Luke 2:22-40) Simeon’s prophecy to Mary must have seemed very strange to her. What could he possibly mean by her being pierced with a sword? On Good Friday surely she knew. Seeing Mary’s tears at La Salette, we understand it too. Before uttering those words, however, Simeon set the stage with his Nunc dimittis, a brief but glorious song of praise to the God who keeps promises. And after his mysterious saying to Mary, the 84-year-old Anna again took up the theme of thanks and hope. At La Salette we find a similar alternating. “Don’t be afraid… Famine is coming… Rocks and stones will turn into heaps of wheat… Make this known…” Like the Gospel—even in the infancy narratives—the message of Our Lady recognizes the reality of the blending of what we might call the “hard” and the “soft” of our lives. The story of Abraham, told in the first reading and commented on in the second, has a similar pattern. Life is not all “soft.” Life is not all “hard.” That we prefer one to the other is no great mystery. The farmers who found their potatoes rotting in the ground were rightly frustrated at the hardness of their lives; their fault lay in their abuse of the name of Jesus, blaming God in their fear of not being able to provide for their families. Part of the problem was that in previous years, when the harvests were good, they didn’t think to give thanks to God. “Only a few elderly women (like Anna in the Gospel?) go to church.” Giving thanks looks to both past and future. In the latter case it is called hope, but the inner reality is substantially the same. This was wonderfully well expressed by Dag Hammarskjold: “For all that has been—Thanks. For all that will be—Yes.” Knights of Columbus Council 8027 Meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7pm in the parish hall at St. Helena. If you would like to join or reL ceive information please contact: Grand Knight, Norman Lessard 543-3617 The Beautiful Lady wants nothing more nor less than for us to place ourselves trustingly in God’s hands, turning to him in personal prayer, worshiping him with the Christian community. We do so not to “appease” the Lord but to seal our relationship with him as we say, “Thanks—Yes— Thanks—Yes—Thanks—Yes—Thanks—Yes…..” Tel: 603-632-7087 LA SALETTE SHRINE Fax.: 603-632-7648 MASS AT LA SALETTE 6:30 on Saturday.
