Les Statham
July 12, 1927 – Dec. 13, 2014
Aubrey Alec Hoare
March 22, 1929 – December 8, 2014
Les Statham passed away
peacefully on Dec. 13 with
his family by his side.
Les grew up on the Olds
family farm. In his youth,
he worked briefly for
CP rail then returning to
Olds to farm for 65 years.
Les was also involved with
trucking part time, hauling
livestock, milk and fuel in order to supplement
the farm income. Les and Jean retired to Olds
6 years ago with many happy memories of
their years together. Les is survived by his
wife Jean, children Lyle (Loretta) Statham,
Elaine (Tim) Brandenburg. Grandfather to
Carson & Cam Statham & Doug (Jordan),
Paige & Brittany Brandenburg. He is also
survived by his sister Dorothy (Bill) Ross,
nieces, nephews, friends & neighbours. On
behalf of the family we extend our heartfelt
thanks to the Doctor’s and staff at Olds Long
Term Care for the compassion and kind care
that they gave to Les. We are grateful to our
friends and neighbours for their concern and
support during Les’ illness. At his request a
famil;y gathering was held to celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers or donations please honour
Les by showing an act of kindness to someone
else.
Cremation arrangements entrusted to West
View Funeral Services, Olds, 403-556-6576.
Aubrey Alec Hoare was
born March 22, 1929 in
Lyminge, Kent, England
to parents Hilda May
(nee Hambrook) and
Alec George Hoare.
Aubrey was the oldest of
three children. Two sisters,
Sylvia and Brenda were
to join the family. Aubrey’s
parents were farmers, milking cows and
having sheep. Aubrey did all his schooling
in the local area and had to leave at age 14 to
run the farm as his Dad was sick. He loved
farming and also did custom work in the area.
Aubrey met Pauline in 1951 through friends
and they were married in 1953. Aubrey
always wanted to go to Canada from a very
young age because of stories he heard from his
Granddad’s brother and family who emigrated
to the Penhold area in the early 1920s.
Although Pauline was unsure about leaving
family for Canada, in 1957 she decided she
was ready to make the move. With their two
young sons, Steven and Clive, they left by
ship to Montreal and then took the train across
Canada to Calgary. Their third son, Darren,
was born in Innisfail, Alberta, Canada.
After working hard for several years in
Calgary, Balzac and Innisfail, Aubrey and
Pauline were able to purchase the farm they
were renting in the Garrington area in 1966.
The mixed farm included dairy and range
cows, hay and grain. They enjoyed being part
of the Garrington community and were active
in the church there. They remained on the
farm until their retirement to Olds in 1990.
They never regretted the decision to move to
Canada. Aubrey always enjoyed visits from
family and friends. All of their family were
able to come from England to Canada at least
once for a visit.
For the past year, due to failing health, Aubrey
resided at the Royal Oak Village assisted
living facility in Lacombe. He passed away
December 8, 2014 in the Lacombe Hospital
Aubrey was predeceased by his parents, his
sister Sylvia and husband Kenneth Coveney
and his sister-in-law Josephine Smithson.
He is survived by his wife Pauline, sons
Steven (Kathy) of Bowden, Clive (Pam) of
Red Deer and Darren (Kelly) of Shellbrook,
Saskatchewan, ten grandchildren, fifteen
great grandchildren, sister Brenda (Ron)
Cullen, brother-in-law Bernard Smithson and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Internment took place at the Bowden cemetery
December 22, followed by a small gathering
at the Olds Nazarene Church. If desired,
donations may be made in Aubrey’s memory
to “The Nazarene Compassionate Ministries”.
John Alfred Geisler
August 8, 1929 – Dec. 12, 2014
John Alfred Geisler passed
away peacefully in Olds,
Alberta on Friday December
12, 2014. Born on August 8,
1929 in Kitchener, Ontario,
John celebrated his 85th
birthday in August with
family and friends. Beloved
husband for 55 years of Marg
(Reid), loving father of Mary
(Steven) and Donald (Katherine).
Devoted grandfather of Michael and Katherine
Turner, Jessica, Jocelyn and James Geisler. His
family was of the utmost importance to John.
John always focused on giving to others. This
amazing compassion could be found in his personal
and professional life. Following graduation from
the University of Toronto, and Osgood Hall Law
School, John dedicated his life to a successful legal
career in Toronto specializing in Condominium Law.
His research took him to many countries around the
globe and, in 1975, John was appointed Queen’s
Counsel by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
He retired, and moved to Olds in 1998, where he
was active in many volunteer opportunities. John
enjoyed spending his time creating beautiful models,
wooden sculptures and carvings. He treasured visits
with friends sharing stories and great debates.
John was a dear brother of Robert, William
(Mary), Fred, Elizabeth and Ted (Dorothy). Brotherin-law to Mary Robertson and uncle to many nieces
and nephews; Jonathon (Trish), Clive (Gillian),
Tanis, Donna, Chris (Robyn), Robert, Geoff,
Gordon (Chris) and Julie (Brad), and their children.
He was predeceased by his parents Oscar and Ida
(Michel) Geisler; brother Paul and brother-in-law
John Robertson; sisters-in-law Sheila (Robert),
Laura (Fred) and Edythe (Paul).
A Celebration of Life service was held at Olds
United Church on Friday December 19, 2014. In
lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be
made to the Olds and District Hospice Society, P.O.
Box 70026, Olds, Alberta T4H 3Z0.
The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Leoni
Kelly for her support, compassion, and dedication
in caring for John, and to the physicians, nurses and
staff of the Olds Hospital and the Wild Rose Medical
Centre. John’s family also extends sincere thanks to
the many friends who have helped throughout the
years of John’s illness. Your friendship and support
are greatly appreciated. Many thanks are extended
to Olds United Church, the United Church Women
and Heartland Funeral Services for their support.
John’s legacy of sharing, caring and giving will
truly be missed.
