Dear Parishioners,
Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family. The focus
in on God’s promises which He kept. Sarah and Abraham
do indeed bring forth a Son. Simeon and Anna do live to see
the Messiah as he is presented in the temple. And at long
last, God send His Son into our world, born of a virgin. Sent
to redeem His people. May our celebration of the Holy
Family today help us to live as a holy family also. At peace
with one another today and throughout the new year.
As we approach the end of 2014 and look forward with hope
to 2015, I pray for all in our parish to have a year filled with
joy and good health. In a world sometimes filled with
violence, with threats against freedoms in our world and
with problems here in our land and in our homes, we can all
turn to our Blessed Mother, Mary, as we honor her on the
first day of the new year. May her intercession help us on
our journey into 2015 and in our journey home to our
heavenly Father.
A blessed new year to all,
Fr. Joe
Stewardship Reflection:
The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
December 28th, 2014
“..as the Lord has forgiven you, so you
must forgive.” – Colossians 3:13
Forgiveness - one of the hardest things
for people to do. It’s amazing how long
we can hold a grudge or be angry with
someone. As we celebrate the feast of
the Holy Family, take this opportunity to
give the gift of forgiveness to someone—maybe someone on your family,
maybe a friend, maybe a co-worker or neighbor or, maybe yourself. Pick up the phone or text someone right now.
First Friday Devotions
January 2, 2015 is the First Friday of the month

Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

women of Immaculate Conception Parish to participate in a faith

Do you have questions
about the Catholic Faith?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: (RCIA) Is the formation process which guides people inquiring about our faith as
well as Catholics seeking full initiation. The formation process
includes doctrinal formation (believing with the Church community),
experience of community, (sharing faith stories), Liturgical formation, (praying with the Church community) and apostolic formation, (serving with the Church community). People are helped in
the discerning process of where God is calling them. This gradual
development aims to help one live a full Christian life. For more
information contact Deana Campion at 973-509-9036.
Lapel Roses to be sold to support Life
The Montclair Knights of Columbus Council #1277

weekend of January 3 & 4, 2015. The requested donation is $2.00 and the money collected will be used to help support

WE ARE GOD’S HOLY FAMILY
The scriptures of Israel are filled with many stories of barren
couples who were miraculously granted the gift of children by
God. Surely the best known among these is the first reading from
today, from which Luke took inspiration when he recounted the
miraculous birth of John the Baptist to Zechariah and Elizabeth,
and the more miraculous birth of Jesus to Mary and Joseph. In
each instance, we are given examples or role models of those
who trusted in God. More than examples of those who trust, they
are models of self-surrender. They abandoned their own presuppositions and prejudices about the workings of the world and
turned their lives over to belief in a God who can make life grow
where none ought to; a God who can turn death around into a
new and unimagined life; a God who can, today, take a tiny child
of humble parents in an insignificant town and make him into a
light for all the world. This is what we, as
God’s holy family, are called to do each
day: to trust not in ourselves and the way
we think things should be, but to open ourselves and surrender ourselves in faith to a
God of endless promise. -Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Pro-Life Mass January 18, 2015
‘Each of us is a Masterpiece of God’s Creation.’
The Archdiocesan Respect Life Office and the Pro-Life Commission will host a Pro-Life Mass at noon on January 18, 2015
at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, 89 Ridge Street,
Newark. January 22, 2015 marks the 42nd anniversary of the
legalization of abortion in this country. By attending this special
Mass, those who wish to stand up for life but cannot attend the
March for Life in Washington DC or the rally in Trenton can still
show their support and defend those who cannot defend themselves. For more information, please contact Cheryl Riley at 973497-4350 or at [email protected].
How to Report Abuse
The Archdiocese takes very seriously any and all allegations
of sexual misconduct by members of the clergy, Religious and
lay staff of the Archdiocese. We encourage anyone with
knowledge of an act of sexual misconduct to inform us immediately so that we may take appropriate action to protect others
and provide support to victims of sexual abuse. Contact the
Archdiocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection at (201)
407-3256.

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
Reflecting on God’s Word — January 1st
Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God
On January 1 we celebrate the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, the Mother of God (a holy day of obligation for all
Catholics) and our readings return us once again to Bethlehem,
accompanying the shepherds, to see the One announced by the
angel as the Savior of the world. With them, we stand before the
mother and contemplate the child wrapped in swaddling clothes
and laid in a manger because there was no room in the inn. We
are told that “Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in
her heart” (Luke 2:19).
Mary invites us to ponder in our hearts the mystery of her Son,
Jesus, truly God and truly human. He came for us for our salvation, and so we ask him to banish any darkness from our hearts
and to send us out to bring his light into the world.
The light that Christ brings is the blessing of God’s peace, all
that make life full, and transforms the world into a place that
cherishes and preserves, rather than neglecting and destroying
life. Christ’s gift of blessing is to let us know the Father and
the Father’s plan — that all be one, united as family, able to
recognize in each other the dignity of God’s adopted children,
alive with the life of grace, destined to share in divinity.
Christ’s blessing calls us to grow into maturity, keeping God’s
law of love, just as Jesus himself grew up, living a life that
brought the law to its fulfillment. We don’t do this on our own,
as the name given to the child reminds us: Jesus, which means
“God saves.”
—James A. Wallace, C.SS.R. ©2012,World Library Publications.
Living God’s Word: We pray that God will bless us with
peace, with fullness of life, by drawing us ever more deeply into
the life of the Trinity. We ask that the Holy Spirit will come
upon us and transform us more completely into people the world
can recognize as adopted children of God.
January 1 is World Day of Peace
The theme for the 2015 World Day of Peace is: “Slaves no
more, but Brothers and Sisters.” Pope Francis urges us to recognize the “equal dignity” of our brothers and sisters who are
enslaved and exploited and to work to end human trafficking,
trade in migrants and prostitutes, slave labor, and the enslavement of women and children. Visit the USCCB website (U.S.
Conference of Catholic Bishops) for a link to
the 2015 World Day of Peace message from
Pope Francis at www.usccb.org/issues-andaction/human-life-and-dignity/war-and-peace/
