Today’s feast is the Feast of The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and
Joseph. The last sentence of today’s gospel shows us that children
grow in love of God, love of creation. “When they had fulfilled all the
prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their
own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with
wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.” Pope Francis has
emphasized many times the family is the cell of evangelization. As
Pope Francis has said, we must, "keep before us the beauty of the
family and marriage, the greatness of this human reality which is so
simple and yet so rich … ”
The World Meeting of Families was conceived by Saint Pope John Paul
II in 1992 to look at strengthening the sacred bonds of the family unit
across the globe. The first WMOF took place in Rome in 1994, the
International Year of the Family. Every three years since 1994, families
from all over the world are invited by the Holy Father to attend this
global gathering. At the conference, families share their thoughts,
dialogue and prayers, working together to grow as individuals and
family units. Families can participate in discussion groups on the
Christian family’s role in the church and society, led by many
distinguished speakers. This year the World Meeting of Families will
be held in Philadelphia in September. The theme of the World Meeting
of Families – Philadelphia 2015 is “ Love Is Our Mission: The Family
Fully Alive,” emphasizing the impact of the love and life of families on
our society. The Conference of Bishops of the United States has
received official confirmation that the Holy Father will be joining us in
Philadelphia in September 2015 for the World Meeting of Families.
Next Sunday, “The Feast of Kings,” the Epiphany, the Parish is having
a family celebration for all the children. Faith Formation will assemble
at 11:00 a.m.; a multicultural Eucharist with the children’s choir singing
will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. The celebration will be followed by a
presentation of gifts, a lunch for the children, followed by games.
Participation of families can make this a great occasion for the family.
Thursday, January 1, is a Holy Day of Obligation, the Feast of Mary,
the Mother of God; check the bulletin for the Mass schedule.
Yours in Christ,
Father John

Our Lady of

We prepared for His coming in the
Advent Season, so let us, too, prepare
our way to follow Him this coming year.
God, thank you for a new year. May everyone in our family be
willing to begin anew with a clean slate. We know that you are
always ready to forgive us. Help us to be willing to forgive
ourselves and to forgive one another.
As we begin a new year, remind us of our truest values and our
deepest desires. Help us to live in the goodness that comes
from doing what you want us to do. Help us to put aside anxiety
about the future and the past, so that we might live in peace
with you now, one day at a 3me.

Santa Ana,
