“Blizzard in May” – Colleen Schueler, Winona, MN 2014 HealingScapes Photo Contest Winner Dear Winona Community, SEASON’S Greetings On behalf of the Winona Health board of directors, providers and staff, I want to extend our wish for health and happiness, now and into the future. This past year we faced challenges similar to other organizations and, through the hard work of providers and staff, many obstacles were overcome. These challenges are primarily related to the rapid pace of change and escalating state and federal healthcare reforms. Yet we believe this turbulent environment has opened the door for more innovation and creativity, and we’re exploring the possibilities and meeting these challenges with several new programs. Our Community Care Network (CCN) has been transforming the care experience for both clients and staff as we partner with individuals in different ways to help support improved health and wellbeing in our community. Our partnership with Winona State University to train “health coaches” has exceeded our expectations. The commitment, care and compassion of our health coaches is amazing, and they are touching and improving lives in profound ways. Our CCN is helping clients address needs that impact their health outside the walls of Winona Health and has reduced hospitalization and emergency department visits for individuals using the CCN by more than 85 percent! We take our mission to improve the health and wellbeing of our family, friends, and neighbors seriously and, in fact, it means helping individuals stay well. A second initiative we’ve launched incorporates the arts to improve the wellbeing of our residents at Lake Winona Manor, Adith Miller and Roger Metz Manors and Senior Living at Watkins. And we’ve extended this program to ALL community members. Kairos Alive! is a powerful music, dance, and storytelling approach that is becoming embedded into our care for seniors. Our goal is to re-imagine the experience for our residents and re-engage the senses. Our monthly intergenerational Dance Hall events provide all participants with an engaging, fun, and life-affirming experience. These events build community for many individuals who may be experiencing social isolation in today’s environment. The Dance Hall events are open to the community. If you want to see faces light up and feel your heart swell with joy, come! Life is ever changing and evolving, including the life of an organization. Winona Health is extremely fortunate to have outstanding providers, a committed staff, and community support. The work can be demanding, the days can be long, and we have more change coming. Underneath all of that, beats the heart of a strong organization that is filled with purpose and full of love and compassion for those it serves. As we reflect on the meaning of this holiday season, all of us at Winona Health wish you the comfort of good health, meaningful connections to others, and happiness that comes from within. Thank you for choosing Winona Health. Blessings, Rachelle H. Schultz President/CEO 855 Mankato Ave. • Winona, MN 55987 • 507.454.3650 • 800.944.3960 Find us online: winonahealth.org
