On this occasion, addressing the gathering of the Teaching and Non-teaching Faculties of JNRM, the Principal, Dr Iqbal Ahmad threw light on the achievement and tremendous contribution made by Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Former Prime Minister of India. Dr V.M. Tripathi, Associate Professor (Hindi) also spoke on the contribution of Mr. Vajpayee and recited a few lines from some of the popular poems written by Atalji. Mr. Kandimuthu, NSS Programme Coordinator and Assistant Professor (Economics) coordinated the Abhiyan. Tsunami anniversary observed at Gandhi Bhawan PORT BLAIR, DEC 26/-/ The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma along with all senior leaders, PRIs and general public observed 10th anniversary of Tsunami at a solemn function held at Gandhi Bhavan today. A Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha was also organised. Floral tributes were paid at the portrait of Tsunami memorial. Candles were lit in the memory of the departed souls. A two- minute silence was also observed. On 25th December 2014 at around 6 am with the help of Port Blair Municipal Council, the team created awareness Port Blair Municipal Council created awareness regarding separation of Bio and Non Bio waste, not to obstruct the corridors of the market by stacking goods, special emphasis was given to the fish market where awareness was created on cleanliness and also hazards they are facing on daily life due to unhygienic work place. Awa reness fo r inculcate civic sense and taking the responsibility of waste disposal etc were created at Mohanpura Mar ket, Wa rd No. 13. Athletic meet of GMS Humphrygunj PORT BLAIR, DEC 26/-/ Annual Athletic Meet-2014 of Gover nment Middle School, Humphrygunj was held in the school g round on 24th December, 2014. Smti. Rupa Roy State Vice-President & Pravari Mahila Morcha, BJP, A & N Islands was the Chief Guest for the opening session of the meet and declared the meet open. The Chief Guest also witnessed the cultural programme and Martial Art presented by the students. Mr. H. Natheliel, Deputy Education Officer, South Andaman was Guest of Honor of the opening ceremony. Mr Debdhar Ram, Head Master In-charge welcomed all dignitaries. or the closing ceremony of the meet, Mr. Nipendra Nath Na g, Zila Parishad Member was Chief Guest and he distributed prizes to the successful athletics. RSS leader Suresh Soni arrives today PORT BLAIR, DEC 26 /-/The Sah Sarkaryavah of RSS, Mr. Suresh Soni will be visiting Port Blair on 27th Dec,2014. In respect of his visit, a Swayamsevaks’ Path Sanchalan will start from Food Court of Municipal Council near Aberdeen Bazaar Post office at 3.00 pm and conclude at Junglighat school ground. The Path Sanchalan will pass through Clock Tower, Annapurna Restaurant, Bengali Club, Goalghar and finish at Junglighat School ground where Mr. Soni will address the gathering in the Sarvajanik boudhik karyakram, a release issued by the RSS said here today. Scouts clean Amkunj beach SUBRATA AMKUNJ, Rang at 25/-/ The Bharat Scout & Guide of Middle Andaman educational zone organized the beach cleaning programme at Amkunj Nimbutala on 23rd December,2014 under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. A total 80 scouts & guides and 20 scout masters & guide captains from Oralkatcha to Amkunj participated in the Abhiyan. M/s Manoj Biswas,Pradhan, Nimbutala. Abdul Salim, Head Master GSS Nimbutala and D.K.Roy, Nominated person of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,Rangat were also present on the occasion and addressed the participants highlighting the importance of the campaign. Science exhibition by CG at Campbell Bay PORT BLAIR, DEC 26 / - / Coast Guard Children School, Campbell Bay organised an exhibition of Social Science and Science projects on 23 Dec 14. Various working and static projects on Energy Conservation, Alternate sources of energy, Environment, Pollution, How things work, etc... were conceptualized, made and displayed by the students. The function was inaugurated by Shri NagendraTripathi, Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay. He was impressed with the efforts put in by the students and interacted with students who explained their projects in detail. He praised & congratulated the staff and students for display of enthusiasm at this part of nation. The event was also witnessed by Shri P. Abdul Rehman, Principal GSS School, Commander (NI) CGDHQ-10 and parents of School children. The Principal of GSS School applauded the efforts of Principal and teaching staff, in encouraging students towards creativity and practical learning. This exhibition provided the children an opportunity to interact with dignitaries and overcome fear during presentation and boosted their confidence. Winners of various sports events held in the preceding week were awarded prizes by Mr. Vishal Jolly, State President, BJP and other party leaders. Secretary to Lt Governor and all officers and staff of Raj Niwas participated in the cleanliness drive. Secretary to LG urged the staff to also conduct similar cleanliness drives in areas where they live and try to bring about community participation in such efforts. Power suspension PORT BLAIR, DEC 26/-/Power supply will remain suspended in some of the areas on 27.12.2014 from 0800 hours to 1400 hours for erection of one pole with ABS beside three-pole structure for Hope Town se parately inside IPP compound, Bambooflat. The areas to be affected by power disruption are Bambooflat to Wimberlygunj, Wimberlygunj to Shoal Bay, Wimberlygunj to Ferrargunj and Ferrargunj to Jirkatang. This work will be carried out subject to weather condition and power supply to affected areas will be resumed as soon as the work is completed, which may be prior to 2.00 pm. Read THE ECHO OF INDIA Public Sensitized on Sanitation & waste Management PORT BLAIR, DEC 26 / - / The sanitation Wing of PBMC organized “Swacha Bharat Abhiyaan” awareness on 25.12.2014 in Ward No.13 at Mohanpura Market to educate them on the importance of solid Waste Manag ement System at source level to general public, buisness establishment and other stake holders for successful and innovative management of solid waste which is absolutely essential for bringing out significant improvement of solid waste which is absolutely essential for bringing out significant improvement in the health and sanitary condition, aesthetics of the city and overall improvement in the quality of life of citizens . Shopkeepers of Mohanpura market and general public were also motivated to become a part of it to dream come true by 2019 as aspired by Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India. 3 Marooned school at C/Bay, students cry for help BALRAM SINGH CAMPBELL BAY, DEC 26/-/ T here is no end to the troubles of students of Govt Sr. Sec school here. A brief spell of rain causes flood like situation in and around the scchool building forcing the children and the teachers to wade through the muddy water to enter the school b uilding. Unf o rtunatel y, the situation is not much different even inside the marooned b uilding where the students have to be seated keeping their feet away from the water. According to sources, the Principal of the school has been repeatedly requesting the APWD authorties to redesign the drain which fails to drain out the water ever since the risen sea level after the 2004tsunami. During the high tide, the drain empties all the water in the low lying areas around it making the life difficult for the people. “It’s very difficult for the us to sit in our class rooms all soaked and our unforms and shoes smeared with muddy water,” bemaoned a large number of students.
