Human Concerns
Minister of Hospitality volunteers are needed for
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Liturgies. If you can
help, sign-up sheets are located on the table near the
kitchen. Thank you for volunteering.
Outreach for December: Food items will go to
Bainbridge Community Ministry.
Please bring nonperishable items anytime during the month. Especially
needed are soups, stews, peanut butter, crackers, canned
fruits and juices, cereal and powdered milk. Thank you for
providing nourishment for our neighbors.
Thanks for the Memories! All of the photos that were
displayed on our November Memorial Board are now in the
box by the Sacristy door where they were dropped off last
month. Please claim your photos by mid-December. Thank
you for these wonderful reminders of so many special
people!
CARITAS Coming in January: Support the efforts of
CARITAS and other Richmond-area agencies to eliminate
homelessness. First, learn more about the current
situation: “…on any given day in Richmond, 999 men,
women and children are experiencing homelessness”
[www.homewardva.org]. Organizations like CARITAS
provide temporary shelter and support with the goal of
permanent and stable housing. The recent shift to “rapid
re-housing” ensures that single adults and families spend
even less time in shelters and more time gaining skills of
self-sufficiency. Second, sign up to share your time and
resources with our January CARITAS guests. We will host
single male adults January 17-24 here at the church.
Third, explore other ways to assist with CARITAS during
the rest of the year: help with the Furniture Bank,
CARITAS Works or the “Table Project.” CARITAS signups
will be January 3-4 and 10-11 after all Masses
Human Concerns Ministry leaders and members will
meet on Monday, January 12 at 7:00 in AB. Parishioners
are invited to join us as we plan for future outreach

Miracles from the Manger: By the generosity of
Epiphany parishioners and their eagerness to share the Joy
of Christ’s birth, a total of 337 people have received
Miracle from the Manger gifts. Thank you for blessing the
gift recipients served by Bainbridge Community Ministry,
Offender Aid and Restoration, Woodland Crossing and
Pregnancy Resource Center. Gratitude is also extended to
each person who prepared the gift tags, volunteered at the
Manger, and who sorted, stored or delivered the gifts. For
the abundance of your generosity, we give thanks to God
and wish you a very Merry Christmas.
Honduras Mission Trip: A team of 12 will travel to El
Progreso, Honduras on Feb. 28. Needed medical supplies
include: nasal saline, eye drops, ear wax drops, anti-itch
cream, children’s acetaminophen, infant fever/pain drops,
infant vitamin drops, antibiotic and antifungal creams,
single-symptom antihistamine or nasal decongestant for
adults or children, multi-vitamins for adults and children
(no gummies), 81 mg aspirin tablets, and prenatal
vitamins. If you prefer to make a monetary donation,
please make your check out to Epiphany and put
“Honduras” in the memo line. Your generosity will benefit
the many patients we expect to see. Please keep the team,
and those we will serve in your prayers.
Grant applications: Epiphany has a long-standing history
of providing financial grants to community organizations
that serve people in need. If you are involved with an
organization that might benefit from our support, please
contact Laurie Weeda, 794-0222, to learn about the
application process.
CareNotes: In December themes are featured relating to
gratitude, care giving issues, grief during the holidays, and
forgiveness. CareNote display racks are found in the
education wing near the parish library and in the
Commons near the office. Titles for youth and teens are
included in the Commons display. These brief pamphlets
appear very simple on the surface, but express messages
of truth and consolation we often need to be reminded of
in times of stress, loss or other life challenges.

Christian Formation
Hilliard House First Wednesday Meals! COOK OR
SERVE! High School Youth Council and other youth group
members are needed to serve dinner at the house at
5:30pm. Meals should be for approximately 10 adults and
between 15-20 kids. Our group will need to arrive at about
4:45-5pm to serve. Dinner lasts until 6:30 pm. Our NEXT
meal will be on January 7th.
Infant Baptisms are celebrated during our weekend
liturgies. The next Baptism weekend is January 10/11.
The next Baptism class is scheduled for Tuesday,
December 30th at 7:00 pm in Room 122, and a walk
through is scheduled on Sunday, January 4th at 9:45 am in
the Centrum. To register, please call Brenda Rogers at

High School Youth Council meeting will be held again on
Sunday, January 11th from 6:30-8pm. Please join us!
The Center for Marriage, Family, and Life is hosting the 3rd
Annual Catholic Men’s Conference in the Diocese of
Richmond on Saturday, January 10 at the Greater
Richmond Convention Center in Richmond. The day will
feature powerful and inspiring talks and breakout sessions,
an expanded expo area, Sacrament of Reconciliation, and
Mass. Bishop DiLorenzo will be speaking and celebrating
Mass. We are also pleased to welcome Catholic speaker,
author, and podcaster, Greg Willits as our keynote
speaker. Registration is $35 for general admission, $15 for
permanent deacons and college students, and free for
priests and religious brothers. Learn more and register at

Middle and High School Christian Formation will have
its next session on Sunday, November 9 from 3-5pm. This
is a parish event as well – all families are welcome! Please
be sure you have registered your child(ren) on-line or
through the main office. Remaining sessions for 20142015 are: 1/4, 1/25, 2/8, 2/22, 3/8, 3/22, and 4/19.
Confirmation Retreat Team will have their next meeting
on Monday, January 5th from 6-8pm.
Confirmation 2015: All youth in 10-12th that are enrolled
in Christian Formation, Community Faith Formation or
attend a Catholic high school are eligible to receive
Confirmation in the Easter season of 2015. Immediate
preparation includes a mandatory weekend retreat (Jan
16-18) and two sessions with a sponsor in February.
Confirmation Mass has been set for Tuesday, May 12 th at
7pm with Msgr. Mark Lane, Vicar General as the celebrant.

VIRTUS TRAINING is the Diocese of Richmond’s program
to attend to the safety of all children. It is required that all
youth-related volunteers over the age of 18 take this 3hour course ONCE in a lifetime. Please see www.virtus.org

thinking about volunteering PLEASE get a head start and
take this class.
YOUNG ADULT CLUB is a ministry for 18-30 year olds.

Search for the longest married couple: This is the fifth
consecutive year for the highly-acclaimed project
recognizing couples for their long marriages. Sponsored by
Worldwide Marriage Encounter, couples are selected from
nominations submitted. In addition to the longest married
couple in the entire United States, recognition will also be
given to a couple from each state who has achieved that
distinction. Nominations are open to all husband and wife
couples regardless of religious affiliation. The contact

A Christmas Gift: “A Gift of Gratitude” is a book written
to be given away! The book has various stories of
gratitude by the author, Juanita Walker. Juanita was the
Office Administrator at the founding of Epiphany, and the
book is dedicated to the communities of Church of the
Epiphany and St. Michael’s. It can be purchased on line
from Barnes & Noble or Amazon. At the end of the book is
a place for you to express gratitude to someone in your life
with a gift they can cherish for years to come.

Art Notes –Fourth Sunday of Advent
The end of the season of Advent approaches. All four of
the candles are lit. The waiting is almost over. The way
has been prepared, as described in Saint Matthew’s and
Saint John’s Gospels for the second and third Sundays of
Advent and displayed by the icon of “St. John the Baptist
in the Wilderness” in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Mary
has accepted her role in God’s plan, described in Saint
Luke’s Gospel for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception
and depicted in several versions of “The Annunciation”;
copies of masterpieces by da Vinci in the Centrum and by
El Greco in the Chapel, and an original piece by Mario
Franchi of Assisi, Italy in the Centrum. In Minor Worship,
Epiphany’s representation of the little town of Bethlehem
awaits the arrival of Emmanuel. The main components of
the crèche are the work of Giuseppe and Marco Ferrigno
of San Gregorio Armeno neighborhood in Naples, Italy.

weather conditions THERE IS NO CLASS. If inclement
weather conditions begin to worsen after school ends,
or on a Sunday, a message will be left on the tape at
Church, 794-0222. A decision will be made no later
than one hour before class. PLEASE DO NOT COME TO
THE BUILDING IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT. Contact the
church or the teacher. ALL MEETING CANCELLATIONS
