Introduction:
• Lactating mother at postnatal clinic, often
asked for safe and effective contraceptive to
prevent further pregnancy during lactating
period.
• As per the multicenter study, desogestrel
(75ug/day) as compared to other
contraceptive, is now safely used in a
women in whom an oestrogen-containing
contraceptive is either contra-indicated, or
may cause side effects or health concern for
both mother and breastfeed baby.
Materials and Methods
• The prospective clinical study was carried out on 200 lactating
mother during the period from January 2010 to 30st June 2011
at Gice Clinic, Kalyani, Nadia W.B. In this studies 200 cases
were taken as placebo for comparison.
• For this studies- desogestrel-only pill (75ug/day) was started
after 6 weeks of delivery for 6 months period.
• The main objective of this study was:–

To find out any alternation of quality and composition of breast milk
To observe any failure of contraception
To check the tolerability or side effects
To assess any effect on growth and development of the breast baby.
During the period of study patient were reviewed At 8th, 12th,
16th, 24th, week and up to 1 year.
Exclusion criteria
• Family history or past history of
thrombo-embolism are excluded
from this study.
