*President of the republic call for young Timorese to stay away from violence

President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak (TMR) has called on the Timorese people and the young Timorese who to stay from acts of violence in the country. TMR
made the call regarding the recent acts of violence which led to the death of three young men in Baucau and one young man in the Capital of Dili. He said anyone
who involved in acts of violence and took other people’s lives was crime; therefore they had to respond to such attitude in courts. “I extend condolence to the families
who have lost their loved ones. I am calling on the young Timorese to stay away from such things,” he said.

engaged in violent action due to poor condition of lives and that was being the cause of the conflict. “The young people are seeking for attention. They get involved
in acts of violence because of poor condition of lives and it can appear violence and shows to the society that such an attitude needs attention,” he said.

on coming days. According to them, the current structure of the Government is too big and that must be made to be smaller as many ministers will not help do a
productive works. “If the structure is big, certain people might have personal interest and some have no capacity, but they were appointed to place some important
positions,” A student said.

Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao has pledged to take the Timorese Defense Force (F-FDTL) soldiers and the National Police (PNTL) officers, as well as the public

PM Xanana’s brilliant idea, saying it would help prevent other acts of violence in the future. Salvador Guterres said PM Xanana’s idea was good to help accelerate

Civil society organizations continue calling on Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao to substitute his Government members who are suspected of being engaged in corruption and polygamy. Director for Luta Hamutuk, Mericio Akara said the Government members who had got criminal accusation had no more moral authorities to
manage the country’s state budget. “Minister for Finance, Emilia Pires, everyone knows her case and others. Therefore, they should be replaced,” Akara said. Akara
preferred PM Xanana Gusmao to substitute ministers and state secretaries who committed polygamy after assuming the posts.
*Govt fails to reintegrate martial arts clubs members: MAHEIN’s Belo

Director for MAHEIN Foundation, Nelso Belo said the Government failed in reintegration of martial arts clubs members into the community when the martial arts
organized were closed down. “The Government fails to reintegrate the ex-members of martial arts clubs as it does not look at them as the country’s national citizens
and should treat them properly and do not leave them,” Belo said. Belo explained that the Government had to place those martial arts members in an appropriate
legal organization or create proper conditions for them, so that they could not feel that they were left behind. “They were left; therefore other people use them to create conflict. Why I said other people? Other people can be here and out of the country,” he said.

*Many emergency projects in poor quality: MP Moreira

The Parliament Commission of Inquiry’s investigation findings shows many emergency projects implemented by the Government in Viqueque, Same, Mantuto and
Suai is in poor quality. President of the Commission, MP Inacion Moreira said more than 100 projects implemented throughout the country, but many of the projects

State Secretary for the Supports of Private Sector (SEAPRI) has officially signed agreement with an international company called HEINEKEN to produce beer in the
country. State Secretary for SEAPRI, Veneranda Lemos said the beer production would be made in 2016, but the process of workers recruitment was held this year.
Ms. Lemos affirmed that this job opportunity would employ more than 1000 the young Timorese. “The establishment of the fabrics is held this year and will end in
2016 and it will employ more than 1000 young Timorese,” she said.

*Baucau case is public crime: President TMR

President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak (TMR) said Baucau case was a public crime and was not about martial arts; therefore it must be condemned with the
existing laws in the country. “Acts of violence in Baucau was not committed by martial arts members, but it was by criminals as martial arts clubs evolve many people;
so the clubs which commit crime must respond to their acts of crime,” the president said. TMR added that the members of certain martial arts clubs who engaged in
killing the three young men had to be taken to the court.
*Govt to take strong action against martial arts clubs, says Lasama

Deputy Prime Minister Fernando “Lasama” Araujo affirmed that the Government would take strong actions against the martial arts clubs of which members engaged
in acts of violence. Lasama explained the Government had issued its resolution last few years, aiming to close down the martial arts clubs which always created
problems and said these martial arts had no longer been exist in the country. He added that the Timorese people needed love and peace; therefore Prime Minister
Xanana had declared to strongly sanction those martial arts clubs.

Prime Minister Mario Viegas Carrascalao’s comments, saying the best way is to hold another election if the engine of the Government has not run well. “I will not hold
another election which can make CNRT party to lose in the elections, but it will only waste money and we create bad precedence,” he said.
*Portugal boosts cooperation in education sector

Timor-Leste’s Minister of Education, Bendito Freitas and Portugal’s Minister of Education, Nuno Crato, signed an agreement on cooperation in the education sector.
The agreement was signed in Lisbon on the 2nd of January. The agreement sets out a protocol for the implementation and operation of the project school learning
and Teacher Training centers of Timor-Leste. The projects will involve around 150 Portuguese teachers coming to Timor-Leste in 2015.

The Timorese Defense Force (F-FDTL) Commander, Major General Lere Anan Timur said he disagreed with some entities that wanted to produce laws to be used
for permitting security forces to shoot martial arts members who engaged in acts of violence. Lere made the comments after having a meeting with the president of
the republic at the Palace of the president yesterday. The commander called on the competent state organs to draft law to be used for regulating the country citizens,
so that they could be afraid of the law. “I am calling on our leaders, especially those who make law to produce law, so that our citizens have to be afraid of the law
not to be afraid of weapons,” said.
*Media Law Article 24 to give opportunity to foreigners to monopolize media in TL

Deputy President of the Parliamentary Committee A, Arao Noe said the Article 24 of the country’s media law which the Court of Appeal considered to be constitutional
would give opportunity to foreigners to monopolize investment of the media in Timor-Leste. Mr. Noe explained was learned by the Court of Appeal after the Parliament passed the Article as it could more spaces to the foreigners to dominate investment in the media. “We abide by the referred Article as it has been promulgated

in his speech marking the handing over ceremony called on the students at schools in the area to use those desks properly in the learning process. “I am calling on

A group of community, living in Lahane, the Capital of Dili yesterday called on the State Secretariat of Forestry to provide more trees for them to be planted on the
hills of Lahane. Spokesperson for the community group members, Adelino da Silva made the comments after growing numbers of hardwood trees in the area. Mr.
Silva said they were pleased with the trees provided by the State Secretariat of Forestry as it could help the communities from natural disaster. “We are trying to grow

*One police officer wounded in young gang clash in Viqueque

Seven of the National Police Force (PNTL) officers sustained injuries when responding to young gangs clash, happening in the eastern Municipal of Viqueque. One
of the police officers was seriously wounded. PNTL Operational Commander, Armando Monteiro said the incident happened on the first of January when those young
gangs celebrated the New Year Eve on the beach were drunk and attacked one another. Commander Monteiro said the police dispatched to the crime scene for
responding to the situation, but unfortunately his officers were injured during their response to the clash.

violence, the investor would not bring their capital to invest in Timor-Leste. She added that it was good to deploy the police to do patrol to make the situation calm, so

*UNTAS suspected of backing martial arts clubs

the country. “UNTAS is still exist in Timor-Leste; that is why it continues doing underground activities by pushing the young gangs to create problems, so that TimorLeste cannot remain calm,” the Parliament Member, Paulino Monteiro said. MP Monteiro affirmed he suspected UNTAS as many young Timorese went to Indonesia

*Thirty three PSHT members appear in court

Thirty three of PSHT martial arts yesterday appeared in Dili District Court for their first hearings. These martial arts members were taken to the court, following their
engagement in setting up check points during the process of autopsy for the two dead bodies of martial arts members in the referral hospital of Baucau. The recent
acts violence in Baucau has led to the death three martial arts members and at least six houses were set on fire.
*BK and Fretilin apathetic toward corruption: Carrascalao

The ex-Deputy Prime Minister Mario Viegas Carrascalao said the Coalition Party (BK) and the Fretilin MPs had not really been concerned about corruption cases by
criticizing members of the Government who were suspected of engaging in corruption. Carrascalo affirmed that BK even had never thought of taking its members who
engaged in corruption to be legally processed. According to him, the current Fretilin MPs are different from the previous ones who always criticized the Government
