Holy God, at times the journey of faith is not easy. We confess that too often we think we
can find our way all by ourselves. Without your light on our path, however, we are lost.
When we are stubborn, you still call us Beloved and send your Spirit to guide us. Help us to

Spring Musical!
Calling all current and future stars! Rideau Park children and youth (grade 1 to age 18) are invited to
participate in a very special musical – Aladdin Jr! Under the direction of Ian Bevell (music) and Andrea
Laliberté (production), we will be bringing this fantastical story to life in two performances on
Saturday, May 9th. We need lots of performers for singing, dancing and acting roles and we need a
full back stage crew too! There will be an information meeting for all interested participants and their
parents on Thursday, January 15th at 6:15 p.m. in the Parlour. For more information or to express

Rideau Park Wi-Fi Service: We are making changes to the Wi-Fi service which are planned to take
place on Monday, January 12. All users will need to log in to their devices again after the
change. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
Bible Explorations is starting up again: Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:00 a.m., in the Parlour,
please join us to explore the lectionary text for the coming Sunday worship service. Led weekly by
the Minister preaching on the Sunday, participants engage in conversation about the meaning of
texts for their daily living, adding to the Minister’s reflections about the text also.
Meditative Service: On January, 18 at 3:00 p.m. All are invited to attend “a gentle service of
communion, scripture, prayer, song , silence and sharing.” An opportunity to join with others to
reflect on God’s word to you and God’s presence in your life.
“I Have a Dream”: On Sunday, January 25, at 10:00a.m (one service), please come and enjoy a
presentation by our guest speaker Khwaka Kukubo, who has responsibility for the refugee
sponsorship projects of the United Church of Canada. For more information please call 613-733-3156

50+ Exercise Group: Please join us each Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00-10:00 a.m., for an hour of
gentle, yet thorough exercise and movement for men and women. A fee of $40 is payable at the first
class for the January—February session. Plan to stay fit as the New Year begins. For more information

Ottawa School of Theology and Spirituality: Winter Term begins January 12-March 16 (Monday
evenings). Courses this semester include “Theological Approaches to Hot Topics” ; “Vatican 2 and
You” ; “Scoundrels in the Bible” ; “The Reformation” ; “Humour and Faith” ; “Spirituality, Leisure and
Space for God”. There are 10 weeks of 50 minute classes for $75.00, with refreshment breaks at:

Harmony Club for Seniors (60+) will hold its first monthly meeting for 2015 Wednesday, January 28.
From 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., when lunch will be served by volunteers, (cost is $6.00) there is
time for meeting others for conversation. For anyone who is not yet a member to join us for lunch,
registration is required by January 21. From 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., there will be a presentation on
the work of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society. Please spread the word that these
presentations are open to all, without charge or prior notice. Please call Marg Nelson. Plan to join us
again on February 25, 2015.
Winter Dinner: After a brisk winter day, please come and warm up with a delicious dinner of roast
pork and scalloped potatoes followed by lemon meringue pie, on Friday January 30th, starting at 5:00
p.m., with a second sitting at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. Proceeds will go to the work of the church.

Spiritual Practice Groups at Southminster United Church: Compassionate Communication, Tuesdays

Worshiplude: On the weekend of January 30-February 1, Rideau Park will host a group of 112 United
Church youth and leaders from London Conference. They will be staying in our church that weekend,
on Friday and Saturday night, enjoying Winterlude on Saturday, attending a regional youth service at
Dominion Chalmers United on Saturday evening, and attending our 9:30am service on Sunday
morning. We will be providing breakfast for our guests on Saturday and Sunday morning. We are
looking for a few helpers to help make our guests welcome. If you could offer to help with hosting
breakfast on either morning of Worshiplude weekend please speak to Steve.
Cross Stitching: Please be advised that the Cross Stitching group is beginning again
on Monday, February 2 at 9:30 a.m. in the Parlour. Everyone is welcome to join. For
further information, please contact Lois Jensen or Judy Paré.
You are invited—Valentine’s Coffee Party on Thursday February 14th, 9:30am—11:30am
Unit 2 is holding their annual Valentine’s Coffee Party on Thursday, February 12th at 9:30 a.m. in the
Parlour. Join us for fellowship, good food, coffee and tea, a Bake Table, and a Potpourri Table. We
look forward to seeing you there!
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING Sunday February 15th, 2015, 11:15 am
You are invited to join us for the Congregational Meeting in Beecroft Hall at 11:15 am, immediately
after the 10:00 a.m. church service. Coffee, tea, juice and a light lunch will be served. You will be able
to hear about and provide your views on the life and work of the congregation. Among the items to
be highlighted and discussed are:
- The 2014 financial results, the 2015 budget, the 2012-2019 Long Range Property Renewal PlanHighlights from each of the Ministers. Further items to be listed following the next Council Meeting.

Family Day: Just a heads-up that the office will be CLOSED on this day, February 16, 2015.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper: will be held on Tuesday, February 17, starting
at 5:30 p.m. This supper is being organized as a fund raiser by the Rideau Park
Boy Scouts, who will also be doing the cooking. More details regarding ticket
sales will be provided at a later date.
Joyful Noise Choir: This year the Joyful Noise Choir, directed by Ian Bevell, have a fantastic
opportunity to sing the National Anthem at an Ottawa 67’s game on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at
2:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 each and can be purchased from the Allo Family.
Please keep in mind worshippers who have limited mobility. Parking in the parking spots
beside Cunningham makes it easier for them to come to church, so if you don’t have the
need, please use a parking spot on the Beecroft side or in the back parking lot off of Woodcrest. Thank you.
