Prince of Peace News
Volume LIV, Issue I
january, 2015 Anno Domini
From The Pastor
3496 E. Morgan Street
Martinsville, IN
One of the great gifts that a person can give to another person is commitment. Jesus said “if a marriage is going to work, a man has to leave father and mother and cleave to
his wife.” Love is never cheap. There is always a price that it is willing to bear for another.
When God loved us, He let go of His one and only Son, and let him be born for us. Jesus,
too, because of His love for us, let go of his life and willingly suffered and died on the cross.
“No greater love can a man have than this, than to die for a friend. You are my friends, Jesus said.” In a similar vein, Jesus said that if we loved Him we would feed his sheep. We
would pick up our cross and follow him in living our life for God and for serving others.
Our church is going to celebrate God’s call to be in ministry on Saturday and Sunday, February 14th & 15th in our worship services. We are calling this weekend the CONSECRATION SERVICES, days when we consecrate ourselves and all that we have to the
Lord. The CONSECRATION SERVICES will really be celebrations as we take a moment to
be together and witness to our call to be in ministry. There will be a special meal after the
10:00 am Sunday Worship Service.
Pastor Jason Taylor will be the guest preacher for the weekend. Please pray that
God will use the CONSECRATION SERVICES to renew our faith and our commitment to
Him.

Pastor Janssen

Did You Know? . . . The Lutheran Hour was first broadcast Thursday,
October 2, 1930. Within the first few weeks over 15,000 communications were
received in support of the program; within the first few months, it was estimated
that over 5 million people tuned in.
From its humble beginnings, The Lutheran Hour can be heard today on nearly
1,350 stations with a weekly audience of about 800,000. It is also available on
the web, for iPod downloads and other media outlets any time of the day or night.
The Lutheran Hour these past 8 decades has had but one mission - that of
“Bringing Christ to the Nations” -and the nations to the church. Check online at
www.lhm.org and tune in each Sunday at 7:00 am to hear the Lutheran Hour on
WCBK, 102.3 FM as we proclaim the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.

First Tuesday Coffee
Prince of Peace welcomes our daycare parents with a cup of Starbucks fresh hot coffee or hot chocolate and a treat on
the first Tuesday of every month. Greeted with a smile and an invite to worship with us, this is an outreach to our daycare parents. Our sincere thanks to Rita Chambers for doing such a great job distributing the 1st Tuesday treats.
Bible Bowl
This year’s Bible Bowl will be the books of Jonah and Malachi. Pastor will write 10 true/false; 10 multiple choice and
10 fill in the blank questions on these books. Teams of 4 will work together to answer the questions and at the end of
the Bible Bowl there will be one victorious team. Their name will be placed on our Bible Bowl plaque. I invite you to
gather 3 of your friends to join you in the competition. The Bible Bowl will be held on Sunday, January 18th following
worship. Please bring a finger food to share and come enjoy the competition. Even if you are not on a team, you can
root on your favorite team and test your own knowledge of these books. The version of the Bible we will use is the ESV
version. Copies of the books are available in the narthex on the welcome center if you want to use them. Thank you in
advance for being a part of this year’s Bible Bowl.

Consecration Sunday is Coming!
Sunday, February 15, 2015 – 10:00 a.m.
Mark that date on your calendar as a time of spiritual growth, fellowship, and commitment here at Prince of Peace.
February 15 will be “Consecration Sunday,” the culmination of a biblically based stewardship education and commitment emphasis called Consecrated Stewards that focuses on raising people in Christian discipleship, not just raising
money for the work of the church.
To understand the Consecrated Stewards approach, you need to know that it is based on the biblical philosophy of the
need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive. It is
not based on the budgetary needs of the church, but on the desire to have each person grow in discipleship. Opportunity for growth in discipleship will take place during the Saturdays and Sundays from January 24/25 through February
14/15.

The personal witness of some of our members.

Encouragement and resources for prayer.

Celebration of the various ministries of our congregation.

A series of Bible studies at members’ homes. Pastor Jason Taylor will also be our guest proclaimer on Consecration Sunday.

Consecration Sunday activities on February 15, including:
- Opportunity to make a faith-based commitment during the worship service.
- A special fellowship and Celebration Luncheon for all the Prince of Peace family.
The encouragement to commitment on Consecration Sunday takes place within the context of the morning worship
service. Our Guest Leader will conduct a brief period of instruction and inspiration, and then ask our attendees and
members to respond to God’s leading through a financial commitment that will enable our church’s missionary, benevolent, and educational ministries in this community and around the world.
Every attendee and member who completes a response card does so voluntarily by attending morning worship on Consecration Sunday. We also urge people to attend who feel strongly opposed to completing a card. The procedure is
done in such a way that no one feels personal embarrassment if he or she chooses not to fill out a card. Consecrated
Stewards works with people where they are and when they are ready. Members make their commitments as a confidential act of worship.
We will do no home solicitation to ask people to complete cards. Since we will make no follow-up visits to ask people to
complete their cards, we will make every effort to inform, inspire, and commit everyone to attend Consecration Sunday
worship.
Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic participation in our Consecrated Stewards events.
Andrew Janssen and Karen McKelfresh, Consecrated Stewards Chairpersons
