John understood Jesus' real identity. He knew that this
was not just another good man, not just a wise teacher or a
gifted leader. John realized that Jesus was truly God-mademan. And because of this, the prophet also comprehended
how perfect Jesus was. In relation to this perfection, John
honestly acknowledged his own sinfulness with this analogy
about the sandals. But look what happened: even though John
proclaimed that "one mightier than I is coming after me," Jesus
showed up at the Jordan River and asked John to baptize him!
Jesus humbled himself by going through this ritual of
cleansing and purification, even though he didn't need to.
John may have thought himself unworthy, but that didn't stop
Jesus from coming to him.
Jesus wants to come to us too. Not because we have
"earned" his love or because we are "worthy" of some great
honor, but simply because he loves us. God sent his Son to us
to be one of us, to walk among us, to care for us and guide us.
When we were baptized, he counted us among his beloved
children in a special way, but that joyful bond is not a thing of
the past. By our baptism we are always his children, even
when we may be disobedient or belligerent ones. His love is
not calculated or quantified; it is a free gift. May we
appreciate this gift enough to show our gratitude by a life well
lived.

"I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his
sandals." That was a lowly job. Removing someone's sandals
back in the days when everyone walked everywhere on dusty,
sandy desert ground was a dirty task. So when John the Baptist
said he wasn't even worthy for that humble duty, he was
emphasizing an important point.

PARISH LIFE
IT'S OUR TIME TO GIVE A GIFT TO YOU!
Once again this year, we will be presenting a
copy of one of Matthew Kelly's books, Four
Signs of A Dynamic Catholic, to each parish
household as an "Epiphany gift." Books were
given last weekend. If you did not get your
book last weekend, copies are in the foyers of
the church. It is our hope that this little book will be read
by all of our parishioners and continue to spark the
spiritual renewal that is currently taking place here at St.
Anne's! It's a "good read" and an "interesting read!" We are
hoping to have "Book discussion groups" spin off from
here. Please make sure you have a copy for your home!
They are your gift from St. Anne's Parish.
RESUMES ON MONDAY, JANUARY 12 from
7-8:30pm. In addition to studying the
upcoming Sunday readings, we will begin
exploring the Gospel of Mark (this year is
the year of Mark in the liturgical calendar). Bible study
will meet in the Rectory. Please bring your bibles.
GOD BLESS OUR CHILDREN! Children in our Religious
Education Program made Thanksgiving cards and
Christmas cards & gifts for the retired Sisters of St. Joseph
at Bethany Retirement Center in Framingham. You would
not believe the joy our little ones brought to the sisters at
these special times of the year. We're so proud of all the
many out-reach projects going on here at St. Anne's!
A CALL FOR HELP! St. Anne's Parish is in process of
organizing a "Building and Facilities Committee" that will
oversee the Parish facilities and recommend updates and
improvements when and as needed. We are looking for
parishioners in the building or construction field who are
willing to donate their time and talent to assist us in this
necessary undertaking. We are very proud of our Parish
facilities and want to maintain them as well as possible. If
you are interested in being a part of this committee, kindly
contact Father Conrad at the Rectory. Your contribution
is important in this area!
WOMEN'S SPIRITUALITY GROUP FORMING: St. Anne
Parish is in the process of exploring the process of
forming a "Women's Spirituality Group" that would meet
monthly or bi-monthly to meet the spiritual needs of our
women. This would be directed by a woman for women
only. We're in process of arranging the details with a
spiritual director. We hope to find the most convenient
day and time to accommodate as possible. Please watch
for details.
POT LUCK FAMILY DINNER SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH
following the 5 pm Mass, beginning at 6
pm in the Parish Hall. Please mark your
calendars for this
"Pot Luck Family
Dinner" for parishioners and friends. We
hope to get together for an enjoyable time
of "good eats," good company, and ole
fashioned fun. Bring the family. There will
be entertainment for the youngsters! For further
information call Joe or Arlene Kutzko at 508-954-5252.
DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO'S INTERESTED IN JOINING
THE CATHOLIC CHURCH? Do you know anyone "on the
fringes" who may have dropped out of the Church and
desires to "come home”? If so, please invite them to consider
being part of our Parish's R.C.I.A. There's nothing like the
"personal touch." We would like to formalize the RCIA
Process on the First Sunday of Advent. Call Fr. Conrad for
more details.
R.C.I.A TEAM: Anyone who is interested in being part of
our formation training to welcome adults into the Church is
asked to contact Fr. Conrad or Linda at the Rectory. Take the
“bushel basket” off your faith! Join the team today!
UNITED PARISHES SOUTHBOROUGH FOOD PANTRY:
Thank you so very much for your continuous support of the
Southborough Food Pantry. You make it possible for us to
help our clients. Currently we are in need of cookies,
canned pears and pineapple, tinfoil, plastic wrap, baggies
(all sizes) and kitchen trash bags. As most food items are
date sensitive, please be sure that your donation is not out of
date. Donations may be left in the foyer of the parish hall. If
you know of anyone who may benefit from the Food Pantry,
please encourage them to come. Pantry hours (located at
Pilgrim Church) are Tuesdays from 7-8 p.m. and Fridays
from 10-11 a.m. Again, thank you for your continued
generosity to the Southborough Food Pantry. Pat Draper
THE PILGRIM QUEEN DEVOTION Blessed Icon of Our Lady
of Guadalupe: The Pilgrim Queen awaits a family to host her
in their home. This is a wonderful way to pray with and for
your family. Start the new year with the Pilgrim Queen
Devotion for your family. Please sign your name and the
date you take her into your home.
Southborough Knights of Columbus will be selling
raffle tickets in January after the Sunday morning
masses to benefit the High School Seniors of St.
Anne and St. Matthew Parishes. There are only
200 raffle tickets being sold at $20.00 each and there are
three prizes: (1st) $1,000, (2nd) $750 and (3rd) $250 in
cash. Please support the Fr. Thomas Garlick Memorial
Scholarship Fund for High School Seniors and win some
cash in the process.
TO HAVE YOUR CHILD BAPTIZED Call the Parish Office if
you are planning to have your child baptized in the coming
months. If this is your first child, you must arrange for baptism
preparation prior to setting your baptism date. Baptisms are
generally celebrated on the first Sunday of the month.
VISITATION OF THE SICK Our extraordinary ministers are
always pleased to bring the Eucharist to parishioners who are
unable to join us for weekly worship. If you or a family
member would like to receive Communion, please call the
Rectory. If you know of someone from the parish who is in the
hospital, please let us know.
PREVENTING CHILD ABUSE IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY: It is every
adult's moral responsibility to protect possible victims by reporting suspected abuse or neglect to the responsible authorities. For particular help you
may call: Frances J. Nugent, Director of Office for Healing and Prevention,
Diocese of Worcester, at 508-929-4363. St. Anne Parish requires Safe
Environment Training for all staff & volunteers and CORI background
checks for all those who work with children and young people.

PRAYER SPONSORS FOR THE CONFIRMATION
CANDIDATES: In order to involve our whole
parish community in the sacrament program of
Confirmation we have developed the Prayer
Sponsor Program. It involves parishioners like you, who
choose to sponsor a Catechumenate with prayer as they
prepare for Confirmation. Prayer is a powerful way to
support our candidates, especially as they journey towards
the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of Confirmation on May
31st at the Saint Paul Cathedral in Worcester. A basket can
be found in the front foyer with envelopes with
candidates names. For questions, please contact Karla
Reuter at [email protected] or call at (508) 3357968.

STEWARDSHIP NOTE FOR:
T B
L
“After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.” (Mark 1:7) We are put on this earth to love God, love our neighbor and make disciples. How many times does our own pride and ego get in the way on fulfilling God’s plan for us? Humbling ourselves before God and putting Him first in all things should be our top priority.
COLD & FLU SEASON The Cup will not be
offered during the winter months. Our Parish
takes all reasonable precautions against infection
at Mass and other Parish events during the
Winter months.
During this time there is no requirement for a handshake at the “Sign of Peace” if a parishioner is
uncomfortable with that greeting. Please respect the
right of a parishioner to offer a verbal greeting of peace
to those near them with shaking hands.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion have been
instructed to wash their hands carefully before Mass
and to use the alcohol-based hand-sanitizer provided
for them prior to the distribution of Holy communion.
