The museum was happy to receive a 1901 Sears oak complete bedroom set. This adds a lot of appeal to our bedroom collection. We also received several small collections. There is always something new to view at our museum. The Archives finally finished indexing 27 scrapbooks but still have several more to complete. M-21, Owosso Because of bad weather and road construction, the Shiawassee County Historical Society had a short year. Our January meeting was postponed until February because of bad weather. In February, Fritz Henke of Swartz Creek spoke about furs in clothing. How necessary it is to make sure the pelts matched. He brought several pelts with him and the society was amazed at how many animals there are in Michigan. Our March meeting featured Sharon Thomas of Swartz Creek. Her topic was “Quilts – Warm Snuggles or Art.” She brought many quilts with her – some new, some belonging to her grandmother and aunts. She also showed the Civil War Quilt. She told us how she assembles her quilts, where to buy fabric and everything we would need. Our April meeting Donna Hebert of Owosso discussed her experiences on archeological digs in Shiawassee County and throughout the United States and abroad. She brought several of her finds with her – some she found at the end of Wilkinson Road. She has donated some of her collection to the University of Michigan. Because of road construction we did not have our annual fall yard sale or our October meeting. In November we learned about the Steam Railroad Institute and their many tours. Our speaker also told us about what all is entailed in keeping the trains running. She also told us about the train cars that are available for tours and the train museum they have.
