I'm looking forward to a great spring semester. The calendars fill up quickly when we come back, so please be aware that Monday, January 19th, is a school holiday. We would like to welcome all of our new students and families that moved in over the break. Keys For Success Weekly, students have the opportunity to be nominated for a "Student of the Week" award when they demonstrate any of the 7 Keys to Success we teach at Buckalew Elementary. Students nominated receive a special certificate to take home. They are then entered into a weekly drawing. The winners are on the announcements and are presented a "Principal's Award" Medallion. One student per grade level is drawn weekly. Choir Notes: Choir enjoyed a busy and successful fall semester singing for the residents of Autumn Grove in November and for the community at Market St. in December. We anticipate another dynamic semester of singing. Rehearsals will resume Tuesday, January 13, from 3-4 PM. See you then! MUSICAL PROGRAMS: Do you need to order a DVD from any musical this year or from a previous year? Simply send in the order form attached along with your check, and we will fulfill your order as soon as possible. Don't forget to include your TXDL# and your DOB (Date Of Birth). 4th grade DVDs of December in Our Town will be edited and delivered to students by Friday, January 16. Library News On January 13th and 14th fourth grade will have an author come to visit Buckalew Elementary. H.J. Ralles will be presenting a writing workshop to encourage creativity in both starting and writing a story along with other important aspects of writing. Ms. Ralles will have many of her books for sale that day. An order form was sent home with fourth graders before the break. Please return these forms with either cash or a check made out to "H.J. Ralles" on or before January 13th. All checks must include your birth date and drivers license number. If you need another order form please send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I will send one home with your child. It's almost time for Bluebonnet voting! I hope your 3rd and 4th graders have enjoyed reading the books on this year's nominee list. The deadline for the completion of 5 books on the current list, with an AR score of at least 60%, is January 16th. Students who complete these requirements will be able to attend the Bluebonnet voting lunch party, where they will participate in a state-wide election to choose this year's Bluebonnet winner.
