Our plants Work I and Work III Witten Work II Wiehl Company portrait Polyurethane engineering division The Arthur Habermann company was founded in 1927 and is a big name in many branches of industry. Today we present ourselves as a medium-sized company which offers a diversified product range in the business sectors of plastic engineering, suction dredgers and armoured pumps. The developments in our special field of polyurethane chemistry originated from the material-specific experience gained in the former core business of pump manufacture for the transfer of abrasive solids. Since 1967 Habermann has manufactured mouldings and coatings with high demands of functionality, accuracy in fitting and Hawiflex four decades of experience ® service life for application cases in practically the entire industry. We have used the experience formerly gained in implementing state-of-the-art wear-reducing polyurethane technologies for pump manufacture and concentrated on the development and production of formulas and special formulations at our Witten location. As in the past, the increasing requirements of our customers are always the reason for permanently further developing our special formulas, in order to meet the demands of prominent machine parts made of polyurethane. We attach particular importance to target-oriented new developments. Dynamic synergies result from tests in the contiguous business sectors of the Habermann company. The possibility of carrying out a sufficient number of test phases in our own installations and setting up regular test monitoring arises here. Our objective is to test new products under conditions which are as close to practice as possible, so that our customers benefit from the highest level of product safety. In our plastics processing department, the relevant advantages of Hawiflex®, such as cut resistance, wear resistance and oil resistance, are optimally brought to the point in our formulations. Our polyurethane engineering division is a major division in the company nowadays. The main investment areas lie in expanding the technically possible manufacturing technologies. Our long-standing loyal customers include well-known customers from a large number of branches of industry. Special formulations with the trade name Hawiflex® have established themselves in the market and offer significant long-term advantages. After completion of the mould, we make the first casting. Our customers can now satisfy themselves that the planning discussions with regard to the dimensional accuracy and functionality have been correctly implemented. Individually tailored solutions are designed in close cooperation with our customers. We select the optimum solution for you from our formula portfolio. The following are considered when making the decision: Service conditions, physical and chemical demands and the possible process. Production Our modern machinery allows us to provide our products with a consistently high level of quality. Our plants can be used to process castings with piece weights from a few grammes up to piece weights of 450 kg. Production takes place precisely to our specifications and requirements. Mould construction Quality The first step in the implementation of the planning discussions is the preparation of the mould layout. Modern design and manufacturing processes enable low-cost mould construction, especially for small and medium-sized batches. We use state-of-the-art products and methods. Trained personnel monitor, check and log our processes at the crucial points. Our quality management system complies with EN ISO 9001: 2000 Hawiflex® as a composite system Hawiflex® four decades of experience Hawiflex® our materials Hawiflex® is our name for materials belonging to the group of the elastomers on the basis of various polyurethane raw material systems. They are the result of 40 years of experience in the development of formulas and the requisite process engineering. In order to be able to ensure that our formulations are used at a high level of quality in as many customer sectors as possible, we concentrate on the production and processing of hot-moulded polyurethane systems. Significant service life advantages are obtained through hot-moulded polyurethane materials. Hawiflex® four decades of material development For quality reasons, our raw materials are only processed by machine. We thereby guarantee a constant property profile of our products. Physical characteristics Hawiflex® material systems have been created for use under the roughest operating conditions. High abrasion resistance with excellent tear and tear propagation resistance are attributes of our series of materials. Materials with exceptionally high demands of dynamic loadability are available. Hardness 35 Shore A – 95 Shore A 58 Shore D – 80 Shore D Temperature characteristics Chemical properties As is the case with other plastics, the characteristics of our Hawiflex® standard systems are not constant but temperature-dependent. In the case of dynamic loading, the balanced temperature must be a maximum of 80° C, in order to prevent material fracture and cracking. Short-term peak loads up to 120° C are permissible. Special formulations for permanent loads above 80° C are available from our company. We have materials with extremely good chemical resistance against neutral oils and greases, petrol and various solvents. General effects of the weather, such as solar radiation, oxygen and ozone, do not alter appropriately selected systems. We even have standard products available which resist strong hydrolytic and microbial attacks. Hawiflex® becomes less elastic as the temperature decreases. Applications down to - 40° C without the materials becoming brittle are normally possible without any problems. Hawiflex® Production processes Casting The raw materials are prepared in modern dosing installations and made available for the casting process. The actual casting process takes place in casting moulds in a virtually unpressurized environment. Significantly cheaper tool costs in comparison with the injection moulding thereby arise. A pressure-resistant tool structure is not required. Materials in the hardness range of 35 Shore A to 80 Shore D are available for the processing operation. Hawiflex® puts ideas into shape All the important processes for the manufacture of high-grade articles are available in-house. Rotational moulding Spray application Here the workpiece to be coated is inserted in a suitable rotating mechanism. Sprayed-on coatings provide an alternative to rubberizing. The coating is applied in a spraying process similar to the airless process. The coatings are seamless and do not form any weak points for detachment. The material can be applied more thickly in the wear area. In comparison with lining with sheets, significant service life advantages with identical materials can be obtained through material concentration in the active wear area. The molten plastic is introduced into the component under rotation. The material is distributed in the workpiece through the effect of centrifugal force. The advantage of this process is the significantly lower moulding costs. Compared with the casting process, the inner core of the mould is not required. Only considerably cheaper flange rings are normally required. Several installations are available for coating rotationally symmetrical components. Arthur Habermann GmbH & Co.
