New Year, New You!
January is a time
for new beginnings,
and that means New
Year’s resolutions!
According to statisticbrain.com, only
14% of people over the
age of 50 stick to their
New Year’s resolutions.
This year, we’re going to
change that! Make your
resolutions, and we’ll do
everything within our
power to help you reach
your goals for 2015.
Some of the most popular
resolutions made in 2014
are listed below. If one of
these is a resolution you
want to make, let us know!
If your resolution is to:
Learn something new. Learning new things keeps the mind
sharp. Through our Lifelong
Learning program, you can take
classes on a wide variety of topics
such as cooking, technology, foreign language and much more.

January 2015
Become more fit/healthy. We’re
all about staying fit, and if this is
one of your goals, plan to attend
our vitality exercise group at least
three times per week. Just remember that before beginning a new
exercise routine, it is important to
consult your physician.
Get organized. Simplify your surroundings by clearing out unused
or unwanted items. Replace a
crowded jewelry box with a lined
drawer to make it easier to see
and choose your accessories. Reorganize closets and drawers with
containers that slide easily, and
put things that are used most
often in easily accessible spaces.
And remember, you can always
count on us to help you better
organize your belongings.
Enjoy life to the fullest. Take advantage of some of the life enrichment programs we have on campus
such as the Living Arts program
and Campus in Color. Don’t miss
out on all the fun. Check out our
activities calendar on LifeShare
to see what is offered each week.
Spend more time with family.
Invite your family to Happy Hour
on Fridays, our monthly Sunday
Brunch and any scheduled Family
Night. Your friends and family are
also welcome to attend any of our
many Life Enrichment activities
or special events.
Take a trip. Grab your friends
and family to explore museums,
go bowling, have dinner at your
favorite restaurant and enjoy
shopping. In the summer, join
us for summer field trips to local
area attractions such as zoos,
baseball games and picnics in
the park. You can also sign up to
participate in our companywide
fishing trip and contest each year.
Experience something you’ve
never done before. Through our
Live a Dream program, residents
have seen a number of dreams
come true, from going to see your
favorite sports team play to journeying skyward in a hot air balloon. Make your resolution known
to us, and the next dream that
comes true could be your own.
Happy Birthday!

Executive Director Corner
Happy New
Year! As 2015
gets started
many of us have made New Year
resolutions. For the team here at
the Willows at Okemos, this will
be our first full year serving the
health care needs of the community. We look forward to the challenge of exceeding the expectations
of each and every customer we
serve. As always, 2015 will be filled
with special events and celebrations. Please see Alice, the Life
Enrichment Director or any of our
campus team members with questions on upcoming events. Thank
you to all the team members and
customers for a great 2014, looking
forward, with great expectations
of 2015. If there is anything I can
assist with in the upcoming year
please do not hesitate to contact
me. We appreciate the opportunity
to serve your health care needs.

Meet Deb Munro,
Business Office Manager
Debbie
started at
The Willows
At Okemos
as the A/P
Payroll
Coordinator
from it’s inception and was
recently promoted to the Business
Office Manager. She has over
20 years of experience in the
accounting industry. Debbie is
married and has four children
that she loves to go camping with.
She is very excited to be a part of
the team here at The Willows At
Okemos and has enjoyed watching
our campus grow from the ground
up. If you ever need anything from
the business office, please feel free
to contact her at any time.
A “Live a Dream” was granted for our resident,
Richard B. in November. Richard spoke often
about a restaurant called the Red Apple that he
frequented in the past with family in Wayne, MI.
He used to go there every Tuesday for his favorite soup. While it wasn’t possible for Richard to
make the long trip to the restaurant, Chef Debbie, Director of Food Services, and Chef Rachel
made the trip to pick up the special German
Tomato soup for him and bring it back to Richard. Richard’s table was set restaurant style with memorabilia from the Red Apple
and the soup was served to Richard and several other residents as well. Richard
enjoyed the soup for two days - enjoying it even more the second day than the day
prior. A dream fufilled! Denise Foster, Life Enrichment Assistant, submitted a
request for this dream to be fufilled.
“Live a Dream” is our partnership with the Trilogy Foundation that allows us to grant
regular and inspiring wishes to our residents. If you know of any dreams a resident has,
please contact any Staff Member for more information. Through our “Live a Dream”
program, our residents’ wishes really can come true!
Taste of Town happens on the third
Wednesday of each month. We bring some of the
Okemos community cuisine in-house to provide
lunch for our residents. Our next Taste of the Town
will feature Chinese cuisine on January 21st.
Dorothea enjoys lunch from Olive Garden! 
Featured Resident
Betty O. celebrated her birthday
with lunch at the Willows along
with her sons and daughter. Betty
enjoys visits from her family regularly. Betty is active in the community,
attending a local senior center for
lunch twice a week; and also enjoys
going square dancing weekly. While
not out and about, Betty enjoys activities in-house such as playing card games on
her laptop and watching TV game shows. Hope you had a great birthday Betty!
Family Night
A great time was had by all who attended November’s Family Night with
a perfomance by Alan Kazam, one of
Michigan’s favorite magicians. The
children of family members all sat front
row as Alan amazed everyone with
his magical talent. Our chefs put out a
scrumptous spread of egg rolls, vegetable ragoon and punch for everyone
to enjoy! Our second Family Night
was a tremendous success and we look
forward to the next one on Monday,
February 16th. Watch for more details
to follow on our LifeShare monitor.
Sunday Brunch
is our creative arts program here
at the Willows. We encourage
emotional expression by having a
creative medium of the month. Our
program occurs once per week and
the medium for January is textile.
Every week our art programs give
residents a chance to express themselves in new and exciting ways.
Sunday Brunch
Please join us for a delicious
meal from 11am-1pm on Sunday,
January 25th. Each resident may
have up to four guests (additional
guests are $5 each). Please RSVP
to Alice Lundquist if possible.
We hope to see you there!
Volunteer News
