Jan. 10, 2015 Wrestling (Scroll down for complete results) Nottingham starting to learn about itself after three wins in four matches By Rich Fisher Fish4scores.com Jan. 10: The Nottingham High wrestling team is starting to get it together, but the key word there is “starting.” There’s still work to do. After defeating Lawrenceville Friday night the Northstars came back to defeat Notre Dame and West Windsor-Plainsboro South in a quad meet today while losing to host Monroe. That left the Fabian Mora had two pins at 220 pounds over the weekend (Photo by Wes "The Swamprats' record at 5-1. Media Mogul" Kirkpatrick). “At the start of the season we could see the nucleus of a good wrestling team,” assistant Jim “The Boulder” Becker said. “It has taken some time but that team we envisioned is starting to come together. “Our win on Friday night over Lawrenceville Prep was important because it was the first win against a team with a full lineup that had lots of experienced wrestlers. Today's quad reinforced that we are coming together to be a strong team. But it also showed how far we really need to go to be able to not just qualify for sectionals but to make a run at a sectional or state title.” Those revelations came about in the match with Monroe in which Kervens Bazile, AJ May and Kem Montina were the Northstars lone winners – all by decision. But the coaching staff also took some positives from the 51-9 loss. “Monroe was, by far, our toughest opponent so far this season,” Becker said. “Their lineup is dotted with numerous region qualifiers. To a man, our team competed with Monroe, giving no quarter, and making them earn every match point and every team point. “While the final score is lopsided, we are real proud of the toughness and tenacity we showed in that match.” Notre Dame and WWPS are both scuffling this year, so wins there were expected. But it is not about the result as much as the performance, and Becker had mixed reviews on that. “The Notre Dame and West Windsor South matches were similar in a few ways,” Becker said. “They are struggling to fill full lineups but each team has strong individual wrestlers and are the types of teams that you can't take lightly. “For the most part, we wrestled well and with the same intensity as we did against Monroe. However, we had a couple of bouts where we were comfortably ahead, lost focus and got cradled and pinned. As proud as we are of our team, those situations just can't happen and those lapses will be addressed in practice next week.” One notable occurrence this weekend is that Kem Montina returned to the lineup after an ankle injury and won three decisions and a forfeit.
