Ministries asked to stop leakage
of classified info to media
NEW DELHI, Jan 1:
Various ministries, including
Home and Defence, have been
asked to take necessary steps to
prevent leakage of classified
information to the media and fix
responsibility in case the leakage takes place.
This comes after National
Security Adviser Ajit Doval
asked for taking action against
those responsible where leakage
of classified information undermines national security.
Accordingly, union ministries,
including
Home,
Defence and Telecom, have
been asked to crackdown of
middlemen roaming in these
ministries as public relation officers of big corporate houses or
representatives of media publications which are either never
printed or published for mere
record sake.
According to the sources in
know, some of the secret notes
of Intelligence Bureau and
Defence Ministry were often
leaked from Department of
Telecom here to these alleged
middlemen of corporate houses
who start leaking documents
purely because of commercial
interests.
Anti-terror squads of various
police forces have also been
advised to plug leakage of classified information shared with
them by central intelligence
agencies.
This comes after some officials of the Anti-Terrorism
Squad of a western state was
seen sharing information with
mediapersons.
After warning, the officers
have been asked to refrain from
doing the same or otherwise
face action, the sources said.
Doval, who was the first to
flag this issue, had expressed
wonder how a classified briefing
to Prime Minister Narendra
Modi about Navy found its way
to a TV news channel.
The NSA shot off a letter to
Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth saying that “it has been observed
that in the last few years, it has
become a regular practice, particularly in the media, to violate
secrecy laws with impunity.
“Firm action needs to be
taken in such cases that undermine the national security of the
country.”
The Cabinet Secretariat forwarded the same to the Union
Home Secretary asking them to
take necessary action. (PTI)
I-T dept issues notice to firm owned by Robert Vadra
NEW DELHI, Jan 1:
The Income Tax department
has issued notice to a business firm
owned by Robert Vadra as part of
its probe to understand the “financial structure” of the company and
real estate projects undertaken by
it.
Sources said the notice has
been issued by the I-T department
to Sky Light Hospitality which has
its offices in Delhi and Gurgaon
and the taxmen have asked company officials to disclose details
about the transactions and sale
deeds executed from the financial
year 2005-06 by the firm.
The department has also asked
the firm to explain its real estate
projects and deals struck in various
parts of North India including
loans taken in this regard from
some prominent builders in the
country.
“A probe has been initiated
against the company after public
reports in this regard were received
by the department. The department
wants to know details about the
company and its operations and
any full fledged investigation
would be taken up post these
issues are understood,” a source

Congress President Sonia
Gandhi’s son-in-law Vadra, who
has not been named in the notice,
has been in the news regarding his
land dealings and real estate projects in various parts of north India
including the national capital
region, Rajasthan, Haryana and
Himachal Pradesh.
Sources said the I-T department has earlier gathered documents on the companies’ credentials from the Registrar of
Companies and through local
inputs in the real estate and hospi-
tality sector before the notices
were issued.
Reacting on the development,
BJP said sending such notices was
the duty of the I-T department as it
accused Vadra of making “windfall gains” from the alleged land
deals.
“If there is a tax notice given to
Robert Vadra, I think it is a natural
process... Administrative process.
It is the responsibility of tax
authorities to send notices and seek
questions and seek answers to all
cases where windfall gains have
been made. (PTI)
