North Central Bulls get bucked
off by Sturgeon Mustangs
Jordie dwyer
advocate staff
Something that has become a bit
more of a problem lately saw the
North Central AA Midget Bulls get
fenced into another loss on Sunday.
The Bulls wound up with a parade
to the penalty box early and often in
a 3-2 loss to the Sturgeon Mustangs
in Morinville.
An early first period powerplay
goal got the Mustangs started and
the Bulls would survive a four minute man-advantage for the home
squad later in the frame, allowing
them to tie the game on a goal by
Jackson Roth with a little more than
two minutes remaining.
And despite the fact the Bulls
were nailed for 12 minutes worth
of penalties in the middle stanza,
they managed to get the lead with
1:13 remaining on Roth’s second of
the contest following a nice passing
combination from Alvin Halter and
Shane Witney.
However, the air went out of that
balloon as the Mustangs squared the
game with one second left in the period.
The Bulls didn’t make things
easier on themselves early in the
third, taking a couple of penalties
including a four minute powerplay
– which included an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty – just over three
minutes into the frame.
It wasn’t long after that advantage
came to an end when the Mustangs
got the eventual game winner.
A couple more penalties to the
Bulls meant a loss of scoring opportunities, which they got back when
the Mustangs got into penalty trouble late in the game. However, they
couldn’t capitalize and left without
the points head coach Jody Tangedal
thought they should have gotten.
“Again, we had solid defence and
goaltending, but couldn’t get any offence going with all the penalties.
We needed to be more disciplined,”
Tangedal said.
The game was the first one back
after an 8-3 loss in St. Albert to the
Crusaders on Dec. 21 and dropping a
Dec. 20 game in Camrose 4-1.
Next on the horizon for the Bulls
is rematch Saturday in Whitecourt,
who the Bulls got their only win of
the season against so far a month
ago. The Bulls next home date is
with Beaumont on Jan. 17 in Athabasca.

The Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association (ANFCA) has
hired InSynch Consultants to facilitate community consultations
with Alberta’s Aboriginal Friendship Centres, their partners and
stakeholders.
Under the new Urban Aboriginal Strategy, one of the primary activities
of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada in Alberta
region is to support and facilitate engagement of stakeholders in the
development of urban Aboriginal community plans. These plans are
important as they will guide funding decisions for the next fiscal year.
The process of developing community plans will facilitate engagement
of urban Aboriginal people, organizations providing programs
and services to urban Aboriginal people, and other stakeholders
in identifying priorities and developing collaborative strategies for
addressing those priorities.
These urban Aboriginal community strategic plans will inform our
development of a strategic Alberta-wide regional plan that will guide
NAFC/ANFCA investments from both the Community Capacity
Supports and Urban Partnerships funding streams in future years.
Athabasca Native
Friendship Centre will be
hosting a 2-3 hour session
on January 7th at 1:00
pm. Refreshments will be
provided.

Two years have passed since
those sad days,
When those we loved were
called away.
God took them home;
it was His will,
But in our hearts they live still.
Lovingly remembered
Peter, Mildred & Family.
It is with profound sadness that
the family of Elise Shopland
announces her passing after a
lengthy and well fought battle
with cancer. Elise was energetic,
determined, and creative, making
generous donations of her time
and talents within our community.
She loved young children, travel,
and her beautiful home, but loved
to spend time among family and
friends most of all.
Elise will be lovingly remembered
and sadly missed by her
husband David; six children:
Stacey (Charles) Little, Ryan
(Stacey), Adam, Leelan (Cara),
Timothy, and Ben (Caitlynn);
three grandchildren Chloe,
Desmin, and Kahnle; mother,
Elizabeth Salé; brother, Gene
(Edie) Salé; sisters, Anna (Kelly)

as their families. A celebration of
her life was held on Saturday,

Elise was an inspiration to many
and leaves a legacy of love and
kindness. The Lord takes another
Angel home.

Our family circle has been
broken, a link gone from our
chain; But though we’re parted
for a while,
We know we’ll meet again.
Some day we hope to meet you,
some day we know not when, we
shall meet in a better land &
never part again.
We shall meet with many a loved
one that was torn from our
embrace; we shall listen to their
voices, and behold them face to
face. Sunshine passes, shadows
