MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF OPPORTUNITY No.17 PROPERTY TAX 2015 PRE-PAYMENT PLAN All landowners within the hamlet boundaries of the municipality have an opportunity to pre-pay property taxes on a monthly basis. Landowners may enter into a Pre-payment Plan to provide for the payment of property taxes in twelve (12) equal monthly payments from January to December in any year. The Plan shall commence on January 1 of each year provided that all property taxes, local improvement taxes, tax arrears and penalties are fully paid on or before December 31st of the preceding year. The opportunity to join the plan will be open January 1st to January 31st inclusive of each year. There are three payment options to choose from: 1. By submitting 12 post-dated cheques for the year 2. By paying once a month by the first week of every month by cash, money order, telephone banking, credit card – Mastercard or Visa 3. By automatic debit from bank account on the 15th of every month (a consent form and a “void” cheque will be required). The monthly amount will be determined by dividing the preceding year’s tax levy by twelve (12). The difference between the taxes levied for the current year and the total of the 12 installments authorized under the plan shall be due by the end of the year. Here is an example: Previous year’s taxes = $400 Current year’s taxes = $425 Difference = $ 25 (a payment of $25 in addition to the monthly amount is due).
