HOSPITAL VISITATION
Due to federal regulations, hospitals "can no longer" provide individual patient information to the Parish Office.
Therefore, you, a friend or family member MUST call the
Parish Office if you wish to have a pastoral visit from a
member of the parish staff. This is the only way we will
know you are in the hospital.
Just a bit of house keeping
 There are still several parishioners that have not
picked up your envelopes. Please check the gathering
area. It will save us some phone calls. Thanks for the
consideration.
 If you have had a change of address, phone number or
e-mail, please call the office and update us.

Bringing Communion To You At Mass
If you are unable to walk down during Mass to receive
Communion, please let our Greeters know as you arrive to
Mass. They will make arrangements to have our Minister
of Communion bring Communion to you in the pew.
Please let them know where you will be sitting during
Mass. Thank you!
Gluten Free Hosts
If you are in need of a gluten free host, please stop in
the Liturgy Room prior to Mass. Our Mass coordinators,
Tim or Margie will show you the brief procedure to insure
that you receive a consecrated gluten free host at Communion. Questions, please contact Margie Benza or Tim
Smith at the parish office at 248-2427. Thank you.

From The Corner Office!
Dear friends,
I am regularly asked if I have a source for daily meditations and reflections. There are many well prepared
sources, but I am currently using Richard Rohr’s daily meditations. I find his meditation thought provoking, sensitive
and challenging. I have had the privilege of meeting Richard on a couple of occasions and he truly believes what he
writes and reflect on in his daily meditation.
Fr. Richard Rohr, ofn is a globally recognized ecumenical teacher bearing witness to the universal awakening
within Christian mysticism. He is a Franciscan priest of the
New Mexico Province and founder of the Center for Action
and Contemplation (CAC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Fr. Richard's teaching is grounded in the Franciscan alternative practices of contemplation and lived self-emptying,
expressing itself in radical compassion, particularly for the
socially marginalized. Fr. Richard is the author of numerous books and is academic Dean of the Living School for
Action and Contemplation.
Here is sample of one his daily reflections on silence:
Remember:
Silence is at the very foundation of all reality. It is that out
of which all being comes and to which all things return. (Sunday)
The running from silence is undoubtedly running from
God, from our soul, from ourselves, from the truth, and from freedom. (Monday)
The two correctives of all spirituality are silence and service. (Tuesday)
Sometimes grace is an uprush and sometimes it is a down
rush, but it is always from a silence that is larger than you, surrounds you, and finally names the deeper truth of the full moment
that is you. (Wednesday)
As a general spiritual rule, you can trust this: The ego gets
what it wants with words. The soul finds what it needs in silence.
(Thursday)
With contemplative eyes, I can live with a certain non-dual
consciousness that often allows me to be merciful to the moment,
patient with human failure, and generous toward the maddening
issues of our time. (Friday)
Rest: Centering Silence
In the 1970s, Trappist monks Basil Pennington, Thomas
Keating, and William Meninger reintroduced Christians to contemplation through the simple practice of Centering Prayer. Centering Prayer is one good way to draw us into the silence that
surrounds and holds us, but of which we are too often unaware. It
helps us sink into the wordless reality of who God is and who we
ourselves are.
1. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed, breathing naturally,
relaxing deeply. Become aware of your love and desire for God
in this moment.
2. Choose a word or phrase that expresses your intention to be
open to God’s presence (such as this week’s Gateway to Silence—“Just be.”—or Grace, Rest, etc.).
3. Hold the word gently, without speaking, repeating it in your
mind slowly.
4. Whenever you become aware of anything (thoughts, feelings,
sensations), simply return to the word, which symbolizes your
intention.
5. Gradually let the word fall away as you slip into silence. Rest
in silence.
6. Continue in silence as long as you wish (20 minutes twice daily
is suggested by many teachers).
Gateway to Silence: Just be.
January 18, 2015
If you would like to try Richard Rohr’s daily meditation simply go to Center for Action and Contemplation’s
website (cac.org), sign up for them and they will be
emailed to you each morning.
Let us continue to pray and sacrifice for peace in our
world!
In peace and courage,
Fr. Mike

Men in the Spirit
Men in the Spirit will host their first monthly gathering
of the year on Monday, January 19, 2015, at 6:00PM in the
Education Building. Please join us as we continue our
theme of Sharing which was first introduced at the Leadership meeting last Fall. We will begin with fellowship, a
light supper and refreshments at 6, to be followed by
group discussions. The topic will be one that is certain to
inspire: "Lord, how good it is to be HERE": Why? We will
discuss what makes it so good to be here at Transfiguration, and how we can share our particular "Good News".
See you there!
Thanks!!!
In Peace,

A Christmas Basket Program Thank You!
A CHRISTMAS BASKET PROGRAM THANK YOU
Thank you all for your generous response to our Christmas
Basket Program this year!
Your generosity has reached over 195 families of over 1,070
men, women and children. You have extended the hands of
Christ to others not only by providing a meal and gifts but a
sense of dignity and celebration to gather as families on
Christmas which is so meaningful to all of us!
Thank you to so many who have sponsored families directly, made generous donations, baked cookies, made phone
calls, shopped for grocery and clothing items, donated food,
offered gifts through our Sharing Tree, and assisted after
Mass with sponsorship. So many were kept busy with preassembly, assembly and delivery day by organizing the food
shelves, sorting toiletries, clothing, toys and food, wrapping
gifts, assembling food and gift baskets and making deliveries.
We could have never accomplished this task without your
generous offer of time, talent and treasure.
Our thanks is also extended to our Christian Formation
classes, the Bird House in Pittsford, Brooks Hill Elementary
and PTA in Fairport, Pittsford Cub Scout Pack #315, Heads Up
Salon in Fairport and the Work of our Hands Knitting Group.
All of these wonderful groups supported our families through
donations of blankets, toys, hats, mittens, gloves, beautiful
handmade items and delicious cookies for our baskets.
A special thanks to program coordinators Lorey Beck, Mary
Jo Coniglio, Roger Corea, Theresa Eckert, Carol Finucane,
Michele Jordan, Becky Pronko, and Nancy Wahl. Their continued commitment to the program is immeasurable.
This has been a challenging year for so many. We have
experienced the gift of your care and compassion by the tears
of appreciation on the faces who have received your kindness
and the thank you notes received.
Please keep these families in prayer as you travel through
the New Year. Peaceful blessings to you and your families as
we begin 2015 and celebrate once again, “Lord, how good it
is for us to be here.”

Engaging our Conflicts:
An Exploration of Nonviolent Peacemaking
8 sessions, starting Thur., Feb 26th, 6:30 to 8:30 PM
The challenge and promise of nonviolence is entrusted
with the peacemakers of the planet. In this 8 week workshop from JustFaith ministries, you will be challenged to
deepen your understanding and practice of the principles
of nonviolence.
It’s not about heady discussions or philosophizing—it’s
about the real transformation in relationships that must
take place in order to continue living together on the
planet.
Group sessions combine prayer and ritual, readings and
discussions, a spirit of group dialogue and other activities.
A special feature of the workshop includes for “film
nights” related to war and peacemaking.

Bakers Get Ready
Book Club - February 9, 2015
Are you ready for our Annual Bake Sale? Save the
date: January 31st – February 1st!
For more than a decade, this grass-roots endeavor
bubbled up from the heart of a parishioner with a desire
to do SOMETHING to help the forgotten, lost, mostvulnerable in our own Rochester community. A good
ole’ Bake Sale seemed the answer ~ and thanks to the
generous and enthusiastic support from YOU, member of
our community, we have raised over $15,000 benefitting
different and well-deserving ministries each year.
Our 2015 goal is to raise $2800 benefitting the two
Rochester Catholic Worker homes, Bethany House and
Saint Joseph’s House of Hospitality. In 1933, journalist
Dorothy Day and philosopher Paul Maurin founded The
Catholic Worker movement.
Bethany House began in 1977 and provides shelter for
homeless women and children without expecting payment through social services; all of their support comes
through donations. The Sisters of Saint Joseph, have been
connected with Bethany House for several years as volunteers and board members.
Saint Joe’s House of Hospitality is the other Catholic
Worker community in Rochester and also provides food,
clothing, shelter and spiritually-centered care to its
guests. They share a firm belief in the God-given dignity
of every human person and are committed to nonviolence, voluntary poverty, and the Works of Mercy as a
way of life. http://saintjoeshouse.org/Vision.html
Please note the changes for the next book club meeting. There will only be 1 session and it has been moved
into February.
The book selection for February is Sing You Home by
Jodi Picoult. This novel explores the delicate boundaries of identity, love, marriage, and parenthood. What
happens when the outside world calls into question the
entire concept of “family?”
The only requirement for this Club is that you come
having read the book and are willing to listen and share
what you may have found interesting, controversial, puzzling, or meaningful. No registration is required. For
more information, contact Sue Reed
([email protected] or 359-4024).
The group will meet on Monday, February 9, 2015 from
12:30-2:00 pm
(please note the change in previously published date)
