The 48th JAIF Annual Conference

THE 48th JAIF ANNUAL CONFERENCE
April 13 - 14, 2015
TOKYO, JAPAN
“Why Nuclear?”
As one of its major activities, Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF) holds its Annual
Conference every spring, inviting a broad range of nuclear-related parties from Japan and
around the world.
This conference is one of the biggest events in the global nuclear industry, drawing some
1,000 leaders and experts in nuclear and other far-ranging fields. The Conference
participants make presentations and take part in discussions on key matters affecting the
development and use of energy and nuclear power, identifying key issues and seeking
solutions. Parties at the conference affirm their shared recognition and awareness,
deepen their mutual understanding, and expand their contacts and communications. At
the same time, Japan uses the opportunity to present the state of the Japanese nuclear
industry, its capabilities and intentions, to hear considered opinions from other countries,
and to demonstrate its commitment to international cooperation.
In the three and a half years since the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power
Station, the negative public view of nuclear energy has not changed in Japan. Participants
at this 48th conference will examine Japan’s future and the impact on the world if Japan
continues to go slow on nuclear power, reduce its dependence on nuclear power, or turn
from it completely. Based on the experiences and perspectives of other countries, the
role of nuclear power in Japan and the world will be discussed.
