TRAIL’S END SINGING
COWBOY/COWGIRL
COMPETITION
The Trail’s End Committee will host a
singing competition to find the best
singing cowboy or cowgirl in Missouri.
The competition will be held on
Sunday, April 26, in the MEC Building
during the dedication weekend of the
Trail’s End Starline Brass Plaza April 24,
25, and 26, 2015.
The winner of the Trail’s End Singing
Cowboy/Cowgirl Competition will
automatically be entered in the final
round for the 2015 Missouri State Fair
Idol Competition.
Entry forms for the Trail’s End Singing
Cowboy/Cowgirl Competition are
available at the Katy Depot, 600 E. 3rd;
Wilken Music, downtown Sedalia;
Instrumental Influence, Thompson Hills
Shopping Center; KSIS Radio Station,
2209 S. Limit (Hwy 65); and KDRO
Radio, downtown Sedalia; or online at
www.thetrailsend.org.
1. AGE REQUIREMENT: Contest is open to qualified
persons in Missouri who are at least fifteen (15) years of
age. Proof of age may be required. An entry form must be
submitted to Trail’s End or to a participating media partner,
in order to be considered for the contest. Entry forms are
available on the Trail’s End website, www.thetrailsend.org,
under ‘Singing Competition.’
2. ELIGIBILITY: Contestants will sing alone on stage in all
rounds. One live guitar accompanist playing a stringed
instrument is allowed on stage with the contestant.
However, this individual may not sing along. Members
and immediate family members of the Trail’s End
Committee, media partners, and their vendors are not
eligible to participate in the contest. This includes, but is
not limited to: spouse, parents, children, and/or relatives
residing with such parties.
3. QUALIFY: Submit audition CD to: The Trail’s End, 30263
Pleasant Hill Road, Sedalia, MO 65301. Deadline for
submission is January 15, 2015. Length of material is not to
exceed 4 minutes; CDs will not be returned; discs should
have entrant’s name, address, and phone number printed
on it, consist of an authentic vocal performance by entrant
singing a cappella, with one live stringed instrument
accompanist, or with the performer playing a stringed
instrument. No live or recorded background vocal assist is
allowed; no explicit content/lyrics are allowed; a completed entry form must accompany the CD.
4. CONTEST FORMAT: Each contestant should prepare 2
songs, and will be allowed a maximum of 4 minutes for
each song. Preliminary judging will be done from all
submitted CDs. The judges will select 20 semi-finalists from
submitted entries. Semi-finalists will be scheduled to
preform Noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2015, in the
MEC Building on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. Semi-finalists will be allowed 4 minutes on stage to perform. The
judges will select 10 finalists to perform 2 - 3 p.m.
SONG TYPE: Contestants are reminded that all songs
sung must be appropriate to a family-friendly audience,
western in nature, and songs with explicit content/lyrics
are not allowed and will result in disqualification.
PERFORMANCE TYPE: Contestants should prepare authentic vocal performances singing a cappella, with accompaniment CD, or with one live stringed instrument accompanist
or with the contestant playing a stringed instrument as
they sing. No accompanist is allowed to sing along with the
contestant or provide any background vocals.
FINALS: Finals will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 26,
in the MO Ag Theatre, with the 2015 Singing
Cowboy/Cowgirl winner being named at 4 p.m.
Final round contestants should be prepared to sing
their second song and it must be different from the
semifinal round song. Contest rules and format are
subject to change.
5. CONTESTANT AVAILABILITY: The qualifying
contestants chosen in the preliminary judging MUST
be the same person to appear at the live semifinal
and final rounds. Should the winner of the Trail’s
End Singing Cowboy/Cowgirl Competition not be
able to perform in the 2015 Missouri State Fair Idol
Competition, the second place winner of the Trail’s
End Singing Cowboy/Cowgirl Competition will be
allowed to take their place in the 2015 Idol Competition.
6. CONSENT: To be eligible for the grand prize,
contestants will be required to sign written
acknowledgment and release, authorizing the Trail’s
End Committee and media partners to videotape
and use his/her name and likeness during the
promotion for next year’s contest.
7. TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES: Show staff will
examine the music file(s) for any irregularities that
could pose a problem during the live show. The
Trail’s End Committee and media partners are not
responsible for any technical difficulties associated
with audio transmission, cable transmission and
master control board malfunctions. This includes,
but is not limited to, operator technical malfunction, cellular interference, technical or atmospheric
conditions that disrupt the completion of the
preliminary, semifinal and final rounds, performance or any technical difficulties which may
prohibit the execution of the contest. In the event
of technical difficulties, contestants may be allowed
to continue their performance after the technical
difficulties have been resolved, per the emcee’s
discretion.
8. DISQUALIFICATION: The Trail’s End Committee
reserves the right to disqualify any person who
does not comply with any of the official rules stated
herein.
9. CONTEST FEE: The Trail’s End Committee does
not require a contest entry fee for participants.
