City docs stumble upon ‘TB of the heart’
OUR BUREAU
Hyderabad: If you think TB is a
disease of lungs only, you are
mistaken. Doctors at Care Hospitals have identified active TB
infection of the heart muscle,
which is called as ‘Myocardial
Tuberculosis’ in medical terminology. TB of the heart is found
in patients suffering from another heart abnormality called
Ventricular Tachycardia (VT).
VT is a serious rhythm abnormality of the heart. VT is known
to cause faster heartbeats, which
sometimes can lead to death.
According to doctors at Care
Hospitals, it is difficult to suspect
‘heart TB’ which is present in a
patient, because common symptoms of TB like fever and weight
loss are absent in such patients.
Findings of myocardial TB in
13 patients by doctors at Care
Hospitals, has been published in
Though TB can affect any organ
in the body, the heart muscle is
usually considered safe. Left
untreated, these patients get
hospitalised repeatedly
undergoing expensive medical
procedures or may get into
worsening heart failure.
the Journal of American College
of Cardiology, a reputed international journal in cardiovascular
medicine.
Their finding acquired added
significance because 13 is the
highest number of myocardial
TB cases in the world reported
so far. Five more cases have been
diagnosed recently and this takes
the total number to 18.
Dr C Narasimhan, Chief of
Electrophysiology services said
that this was an important report
as TB affecting the heart was new
knowledge in the field of medicine. Though TB can affect any
organ in the body, the heart muscle is usually considered safe.
Left untreated, these patients get
hospitalised repeatedly undergoing expensive medical procedures or may get into worsening
heart failure.
Apart from heart rhythm disorders like VT, myocardial TB
patients can present with heart
failure or heart blocks, depending on the area of the heart muscle affected.

spate of migration of district
level leaders and local body representatives to the TRS in the recent months.
He told the leaders it was the
responsibility of senior leaders
to keep the party cadre intact and
shed differences among themselves. The AICC chief wanted all
leaders to fight united against the
TRS government by raising people’s issues. Digvijay instructed
the TPCC chief to prepare a
roadmap to launch the party’s
mass contact programme from
March this year. “Now, the honeymoon is over. Leaders should
go to people and expose the failure of the TRS government,” he
instructed.

A majority of Sabarimala pilgrims use boating facility during return journey
Nearly 15 per cent increase in tourists using house boats, mostly Sabarimala pilgrims
Hyderabad: In what can be
termed as a new trend, Sabarimala pilgrims from Telangana
and Andhra Pradesh are now opting to stay in houseboats in Kerala
before making their journey back
home, adding to 15 per cent jump
in Kerala tourism.
It is a case of sheer coincidence.
Thanks to the Sabarimala season
coinciding with the tourist season, Kerala has witnessed a 15 per
cent growth in domestic tourist
arrivals. The tourist season starts
from November and continues till
January when a number of pilgrims head for Kerala. This has
helped the business especially of
houseboat owners in Alleppey
district. Rojes Joseph, assistant
general manager sales & marketing, Carmelia Haven Plantation
Artistes from Kerala staging a fusion dance item organised by Kerala Tourism department in Hyderabad on Tuesday
Resort & Spa says, “In the last
four months we have a lot of
Sabarimala pilgrims using one of
our six houseboats. It is a new
trend never seen before. Earlier,
pilgrims would just return but
now are spending a day or two in
the backwaters before returning
to their home State.”
While Kerala Tourism has gone
on an overdrive in the last two
years by projecting the State in all
possible tourism and trade fairs,
the Sabarimala pilgrims from
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
have boosted the tourism in the
tiny State. P Muraleedharan,
tourism information officer, De-
crossed over to TRS. The petitioner named KR Amos, V
Bhoopal Reddy, N Rajalingam, T
Bhanu Prasad Rao and S Jagadiswar Reddy as respondents who
were elected as MLCs of the
Congress party but later joined
TRS. The counsel lamented that
the anti-defection law is being
made redundant
by the Chairman
who has not taken
up the case. The judge adjourned
the case to next Tuesday and
asked for the appearance of AG.
It is learnt that even the TDP has
filed a writ petition complaining
that the complaint filed by them
against the leaders who defected
to TRS was not being taken up
by the speaker of Telangana Legislative Assembly. They wanted
the disqualification of T Srinivasa Yadav, T Krishna Reddy and
Dharma Reddy from the
Assembly.

this endeavour and set up a
strong back office with professionals to give feedback and provide vital information to the
Congress leaders on people’s issue.

YSRCP fires at
Naidu for remarks
on more kids
Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party
on Tuesday took strong objection
to the remarks of the Andhra
Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that couples
should go for more number of children and comparing TDP founder
president NT Rama Rao with Lord
Venkateswara.
Addressing the press here, party
senior leader Ambati Rambabu
said the CM’s comments were insane and unbecoming of the responsible position he held. “The
remarks coming from a person
who is boasting of building a capital on the lines of Japan and other
developed nations has stunned the
nation. Naidu telling that giving
birth to more number of children
will increase the youth power and
turn the nation young is ridiculous,” he said. The YSRCP leader
pointed out that the country already passed a legislation barring
people having more than two children from contesting elections.
