WSU SPLIT SQUADS TO START 2015 INDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON
Washington State University’s indoor track and field teams open the 2015
indoor season at two different meets...Jan. 16-17 the multis, sprinters, jumpers and throwers will compete at the Ed Jacoby Invitational/Multis hosted by
Boise State at the Idaho Center/Jacksons Indoor Facility in Nampa, Idaho...
Cougar middle distance, distance and hurdlers will compete at the University of Washington Indoor Preview Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Dempsey Indoor
Facility in Seattle...both meets will feature invitational team scoring (10-8­‐6­
‐4­‐3-2-1)...WSU results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, following
completion of each meet.
WAYNE PHIPPS, DIRECTOR OF WSU
CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (Univ. of British Columbia ‘91/Oregon ‘94) become the 15th
coach to take the reins of the Washington State men’s program and the second coach for the combined men’s and women’s program at WSU on July 1,
2014...Phipps had been the University of Idaho’s Director and Track & Field/
Cross Country from 2010 through 2014, and was a coach with the Vandals
program for a total of 19 years...he served as co-head coach from 2000-09,
after serving as an assistant coach from 1995-99... while at Idaho, Phipps
was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals
to a record 16 total conference titles.
COUGAR COACHING STAFF
WSU Track & Field coaching staff includes Associate Head Coaches Julie
Taylor (throws), and Yogi Teevens (sprints and horizontal jumps)...Assistant
Coaches are Matt McGee (multis and vertical jumps), and Allix Potratz-Lee
(distance)...volunteer coaches include Tim Taylor (throws) and Emma Kertesz
(distance).
WSU OPEN / COUGAR INDOOR/MULTIS MEETS
The WSU Open will be held Jan. 23-24 and the Cougar Indoor/Multis will be
held Feb. 6-7...both meets are at the Washington State Indoor Facility...both
meets are open competition with registration and pre-payment entries available through Direct Athletics.com.
NCAA DESCENDING ORDER LISTS
The NCAA abondoned the qualifying standards for the 2015 indoor competition...national descending order lists can be viewed at the United States
Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track & Field Results Reporting System website
(www.tfrrs.org)...the top 16 individuals and 12 relays will move on to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships
March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas...best marks for the Cougars for the 2015 indoor season can be found at www.
