Lay Reader
O God, our Father, we remember the will of Jesus, & we pray
that we may be enabled to fulfill it. Help us to gather together
in one, all things in Him. Help us to love Him, & our neighbors
as ourselves. May we not be anxious for the morrow, nor
judgmental upon our brother, nor insincere in our prayers.
Keep us aware of our calling to be the salt of the earth, & may
the fact that we are part of the Body of Christ keep our hearts
warm with love, & our hands busy in His service. In His name
we pray. Amen.

St. Paul’s Notes
THE LIFE OF MOSES
The Early Life of Moses
January 18, 2015
Exodus 2:11-25
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he gets
older, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the
name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to do everything I have commanded you.”
Matthew 28:19-20
“When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s
daughter and he became her son.” Exodus 2:10
“Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and
was powerful in speech and action.” Acts 7:22
“Moses was highly regarded in Egypt by Pharaoh’s officials
and by the people of Egypt.” Exodus 11:3
Josephus
Exodus 2
11 One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to
where his own people were and watched them at their hard
labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own
people. 12 Looking this way and that and seeing no one, he
killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 The next day
he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the
one in the wrong, “Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?”
14 The man said, “Who made you ruler and judge over us?
Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?”
Then Moses was afraid and thought, “What I did must have
become known.”
15 When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but
Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where
he sat down by a well.
Why in the world would Moses do something like this?
”By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be
known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be
mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy
the fleeting pleasures of sin.” Hebrews 11:24-25
How did Moses know these were his own people?
Why did Moses run away?
16 Now a priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they
came to draw water and fill the troughs to water their father’s
flock. 17 Some shepherds came along and drove them
away, but Moses got up and came to their rescue and
watered their flock. 18 When the girls returned to Reuel their
father, he asked them, “Why have you returned so early
today?” 19 They answered, “An Egyptian rescued us from
the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the
flock.” 20 “And where is he?” Reuel asked his daughters.
“Why did you leave him? Invite him to have something to
eat.” 21 Moses agreed to stay with the man, who gave his
daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage. 22 Zipporah gave
birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom saying, “I
have become a foreigner in a foreign land.” 23 During that
long period, (40 years) the king of Egypt died. The Israelites
groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help
because of their slavery went up to God. 24 God heard their
groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham,
with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the
Israelites and was concerned about them.”
APPLICATION
God makes a way when there seems to be no way.
By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months.
By faith Moses refused to be known
as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.
By faith you and I are to live.
Are you living by faith?
Are you seeking God’s desire
and will or are you trying to do things you own way?

Sanctuary is the First, Third, & Last Wednesday of every month, 6:307:30 PM, in Thornley Chapel East.
Within the framework of contemplative worship music and moments
of silence, this service is offered to those seeking a safe place to come
before the Lord, resting in His presence while developing a deeper
intimacy with Him.

The Angel Fund is a ministry of St. Paul’s managed by Tom &
Arlene Malanga and assists those in Ocean Grove and the neighboring
towns who suffer a sudden financial hardship.
Only those applicants who meet eligibility requirements are
considered for assistance. Typically we help with temporary housing,
rent, utilities, telephone, doctor, dentist, pharmacy, fuel and
transportation expenses.
During the past calendar year we were able to assist over 148
individuals and families and help them get back on their feet.
We are supported solely by your contributions. We are not a funded
program of St Paul’s.
The month of January has been designated Angel Fund month and
your Communion Offering will be given to us to support this ministry.
Your continuing support will make a big difference in many lives.
God Bless you all.
