Chichester Drive, Taylors Lakes. 3038 Ph: 9390 3388 Fax: 9390 3225 Principal: Mr Chris Sevior https//:www.tlps.vic.edu.au/ Friday 8th March, 2013 Issue No: 3 “Learning Today for a BeTTer Tomorrow” School Values: Tolerance, Excellence, Responsibility, Inclusion, Honesty, Care &Respect Dear Parents, It is hard to believe that we are past the half way mark of first term. Our classrooms are very settled as is our school yard. I walk around our school at most recess and lunchtime breaks and our children generally get along really well! Prep Picnic It was wonderful seeing so many children and families at our Prep picnic last night. I believe our school is a terrific place to be and our preps have certainly developed a love for their school. We encourage parents to become involved in our school as much as they can. House Captains and Vice Captains On behalf of the whole school community, I would like to congratulate the following students who were voted house captains and vice-captains by their peers. Gold House Captains: Anthony and Jessica P Vice Captains: Darcy and Polly Blue House Captains: Angelo and Shenay Vice Captains: Michael and Priscilla Red House Captains: Pat and Giada Vice Captains: Flynn and Isabelle Green House Captains: Marcus and Cindy Vice Captains: Nathan and Emily Easter Raffle We would greatly appreciate it if parents can donate an Easter Egg for our annual Easter raffle. Like previous years, we are asking all parents to donate an Easter Egg which we will put into hampers to use as prizes for our Easter raffle. The Easter Eggs can be dropped off at the office area. The money that we raise from the Easter raffle will be used to upgrade school furniture throughout the school. Raffle tickets have been distributed to all families. It would be greatly appreciated if raffle tickets and raffle ticket money is returned to our school. Public Holiday It is the Labour Day public holiday on Monday March 11 th. Please note that our school will be closed on this day. Parking It is very important that everyone shows patience and courtesy when dropping off and picking up their children. The parking outside the front of our school is no longer a two minute drop off zone. I believe the Brimbank Council will re-examine the parking situation outside both our school and the Secondary College next door. Staff Car park It is imperative that parents do not park their car in the staff car park. Our car park is not a monitored safe zone for children and I am concerned for children who walk in this area. Our car park struggles to meet the needs of our staff and I must insist that it is not used by parents. 2014 Prep Enrolment I have already started doing Prep tours for prospective parents for 2014! It would be really helpful if parents who have a younger child starting at our school next year to come to the office quickly and fill out an enrolment form. In the past two years we have been able to cater for five Prep classes. Due to limitations of space, I cannot guarantee this in 2014. So please get your enrolment form completed in term 1 this year for your own piece of mind. If you know of family or friends who are looking to enrol their children at our school next year can I please ask that they call the office to arrange a tour and interview with me promptly to avoid any possibility of disappointment? Assembly Our school assembly will occur every Friday afternoon. If the weather is suitable we have a whole school assembly on the basketball court starting at 2.50. If the weather is too hot or wet we have two assemblies in the hall. We have an upper school assembly (Grade 3-6) beginning at 2.20 and a junior school assembly (Prep- 2) beginning at 2.45. Two Minute Noodles I would like to let all parents know that we will unfortunately not be adding boiling water for students who bring two minute noodles to school. It is quite dangerous for the students to walk back to class with a cup of scolding noodles in their hands. Regards, Chris SYDENHAM DISTRICT SWIMMING CARNIVAL: On Thursday 28th February a team of talented students represented our school and competed in this carnival at the St Albans Leisure Centre in the following events (all 50 metres outdoor pool): Catherine Leung (6LM)-Backstroke: 1st in heat, and Breaststroke: 1st in heat; Jamie-Rose Ritchie (6MV)- Backstroke: 2nd in heat and Freestyle; Alessia Valerio (5RA)-Butterfly-2nd in heat ; Jeyda Karacozlu (5PL)- Breaststroke 3rd in heat; Darcy Tamer (5VR)Breaststroke-6th in heat; Flynn Howell (5VR)-Backstroke 1st in heat and Freestyle- 1st in heat; Emily Laucanski (5PL)Freestyle 1st in heat and Breaststroke 1st in heat; Piper Howell (4SK)- Backstroke- 2nd in heat; Nikolce Mitrovski (5RA)-Butterfly 2nd in heat and Freestyle- 1st in heat; Gerard Hasoon (5RA)- Breaststroke 3rd in heat and Backstroke 2nd in heat. We are keen to have this program operating at Taylors Lakes Primary School. A key factor of the BRIDGES program is the use of volunteer tutors from our school community. Without volunteers the program cannot be successfully implemented. We are looking for volunteers who could devote approximately 30 minutes for a minimum of three days each week. You would be required to participate in a short training session and to hold a 'Working with Children' check. We would then match you one-to-one with a student and provide everything you need - all we need from you is your time and commitment. If you are interested in participating in this innovative school-community reading program as a Literacy Assistant please contact us on 9390 3388: Robyn Street (Welfare Co-ordinator) Or Helen Ioannou (Bridges Co-ordinator) DATES TO REMEMBER 2013 Term 1 Term 2 Term 3 Term 4 29th January- 28th March 15th April- 28th June 15th July – 20th September 7th October – 20th December Monday March 11th Monday April 15th Wednesday May 22nd Labour Day- Public Holiday Grade 6 Canberra Camp School Photos Kealba 4 / 12 Malcolm Court, Kealba C.B Dancers Ph: 8390 9089 Come and join in the fun of learning to dance Jazz, Tap, Classical Ballet, Baby Ballet, Hip Hop Funk & Theatrical Dance.
