Our thanks go to President Cropper and Larry Korwatch for making the November 20th meeting
at California Maritime Academy a very enjoyable meeting and dinner. As we saw, the new
CMA Sports Center is a remarkable addition to the CMA Campus.
Our thanks go also to Herb Forthuber, Richard Maguire and crew for a very enjoyable
Christmas Party, on December 13th. The party’s Holiday and nighttime water setting of the
Encinal Yacht Club on the Oakland/Alameda Estuary was a treat and especially enjoyed!
For the January meeting we have as guest speaker, Erik W. Larsen, the Regional Sales
Manager of Rolls-Royce Marine North America. The meeting will be held at Spenger’s
Fish Grotto, in Berkeley, on Thursday January 15th, starting at 6 PM. Erik will show us
how Rolls-Royce Marine is currently advancing into the field of LNG fueled marine
propulsion technology. He will explain what LNG marine propulsion systems are
comprised of and why they are now being used. He will discuss emissions legislation,
regulations, and fuel costs. His discussion will include the features and differences
between the diesel engine room and the engine room of an inherently safe “lean burn”
marine gas engine. Also, a complete overview of Rolls-Royce’s marine product line,
including marine alternative propulsion systems, marine drive units, and marine engine
types will be presented. This presentation should be an informative look into the future
horizon of our marine industry’s gas engine field, so we hope that you will be able to
attend!
