After hearing how uplifted people felt after the Anointing of the Sick Mass, Father Bob decided to offer this beautiful Sacrament monthly. This way anyone facing surgery, battling long term illness, or just feeling down mentally or emotionally due to illness or age, can now readily receive the Anointing of the Sick. On the second Sunday of each month, after the 11:00 Mass when people begin to leave church, simply come and sit in the front pew and Father will bring the oils out and anoint you. It will only take 5 minutes of your time but will prepare you for surgery or at least spiritually lift you up. If you don't attend the 11:00 Mass, simply come back at 11:55 and find your way into the pew. As always, family and friends are always welcome! ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sunday, January 4th, Weekly Envelope: $5,163. Thank you for your generosity in helping to meet our parish budget. One mom works 7 days a week, night shift, serving food and then spends her days caring for her 2-year old precious little girl. The money she earns pays for rent, some heat and very basic food supplies. She accesses Mary’s Shelter once-a-month for diapers by riding 2 busses there and back after working all night. Some might think a turkey and fixings are just an average holiday, but for this family it was a feast that lasted several days. In speaking with her, she surprised me by saying she didn’t think the Church did anything for anybody, just asked for more and more money. At first I was taken aback, then I thought about how many days she feeds her baby first, then eats the scraps from work. She may never see the inside of a Church but through your help, she saw the heart of Christ—His Sacred Heart. Another mother with 2 children has suffered with mental illness all her life. Both of her children are ill and require special therapies. Her husband moved the family to Allentown then abandoned them. Yes there are two sides to every story, but suffice it to say—they had nothing. Not a blanket, or a couch, or a pot to cook in. Our part in the Parish Nurse Program has been to help them, and your gift of a Thanksgiving meal brought joy in the middle of a very difficult time. They felt scared and hopeless and you calmed them and fed them—body and soul! They have become active parishioners this month and while they accept material help, they offer back what they have to each event. The mom shared how good it is to know God cares for us AND that they can offer what they have, back into God’s hands. Lest we leave out our precious elders. I would like to tell you how proud one grandmother was as she cooked the Thanksgiving dinner for her 7 grandchildren. She has a heart condition and is losing ground, but this year she had a blast! Yes, there are many more stories! You see Father, everyone seems to think only great things matter when in fact the saints speak of the power of doing little things with great love! Mother Teresa spoke once to say, “Just do the least you can— start with that.” We are not talking about turkeys and stuffing but about sharing the love of Christ. Just as Christ blessed the loaves and fish and multiplied it—I see God taking our little acts and exploding them in loving ways we cannot imagine. Thank you for being who you are and all that you do!
