Please Report Illegal Activity
Prompt and detailed reporting of suspicious activities helps
prevent crime. If you see suspicious activity, or any
activity that seems out of the ordinary, immediately call
911. When reporting suspicious activity, give an accurate
description. Here are some things to include:
• Brief description of the activity;
• Date, time and location of the activity;
• Physical identifiers of anyone you observed;
• Descriptions of vehicles involved;
• Information about where the people involved in the
suspicious activity may have gone;
• Your name and contact information.
Remember, dialing 911 is the most direct route to access
police service.
Holiday Pot Luck Dinner
We had another fantastic Christmas Holiday Pot Luck
Dinner last month. There was plenty of good food and
great fellowship among the 40 or so attendees. A special
thank you to Patricia Green and all the others who pitched
in to do whatever was necessary to make the event a
fantastic success. There were so many door prizes; I think
all but maybe three attendees won at least one door prize.
Thank you Norma Brown, Donna Morrow and Donna
Watts; I understand there were so many Harvest Ball door
prizes donated that some were withheld just for the Pot
Luck. Thank you all, everyone!
Harvest Ball Ticket Layaway
Because the Harvest Ball is our major fundraiser for the
Fairlawn Scholarship Fund and we would like to get more
participation from the Association’s general membership, I
am proposing that we are piloting a ticket layaway plan.
Fairlawn members may make deposits towards their
purchase of a $50 Harvest Ball ticket and receive a deposit
receipt. In cooperation with the Treasurer, Mr. Presbury
will receive the deposits, issue the receipts, and maintain
the record. All money received will be deposited into the
Fairlawn general account. If the purchaser later decides
they don't want their ticket and asks for a refund of their
deposits, there will be a flat $5 service charge that will go
directly to the Scholarship Fund. Purchasers may layaway
as many tickets as they like, one ticket at a time, and may
make deposits as frequently as they like through Mr.
Presbury. To arrange a payment pickup please contact Mr.
Presbury at 202-678-0291 or email: [email protected].
Now Open!
Skyland Workforce Center
The Skyland Workforce Center at 2509 Good Hope Road,
SE, is now open. It is a joint project of the development
and construction team for the Skyland Town Center and
Workplace DC, a group of local non-profit organizations
that provide employment-related services. The goal of the
Center is to co-locate services and programs on-site that
connect job seekers with positions and services that can
help them to successfully obtain and retain employment
with training and referral services.
While the Center will assist with placing individuals with
construction-related positions on the project, it will also
offer a broad range of services to help individuals with
placement in other jobs and to improve their education and
skills.
The nonprofits that will be providing services at the Center
are:
LIFT-DC is providing case management;
Jubilee Jobs is doing job placement;
Southeast Ministry is providing GED tutoring and adult
basic education;
STRIVE-DC is offering job readiness training;
Byte Back is providing computer literacy training.
