Brightwells Cheltenham January Sale 2015 Irish Point to Point Form Guide Lot 2 The Bishop (IRE) 7yo, B, Geld, Winged Love (IRE) – Charlie’s Mary (IRE) (Daar Alzamaar) This is a fine chasing type who ran well on his debut just before Christmas at Tattersalls in a field of vastly more experienced rivals to finish second. He then progressed nicely for his second start to win at Tinahely. In winning easily it must be remembered the horse he beat Say Geronimo was a distance clear two out on his previous start before exiting so this looked a very decent maiden for its type and this fellow has the scope to progress into a nice chaser. 5 Margaret’s Rose (IRE) 5yo, B, Mare, Millenary (GB) – Alannah Rose (IRE) (Roselier (FR)) A tough mare who won on her debut at Tinahely earlier this month. The favourite and thoroughly consistent Katiebyrne looked set to open her account until this mare moved alongside in the closing stages and the favourite did no lie down and asked this mare a question which she duly responded to. She is out of a Roselier mare ensuring her toughness should be no surprises. This was a very commendable effort from this debutante and she looks banker material to enjoy a successful career on the track. 6 Mustmeetalady (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Mustameet (USA) – Ladymcgrath (IRE) (Jamesmead) A twice proven four-year-old who has narrowly lost out but shown his resilience each time. At Kilworth in March he was beaten by less than a length by Minella Berry. Minella Berry was since a close third on his only outing over hurdles at the Down Royal festival to Rock The World. This fellow then went to Dromahane last Saturday for his second career start and again proved himself thoroughly game in chasing home Fairly Legal. It took the judge some time to deliver the result with the nod of the heads going against this fellow but the ability is now proven and he is from the family of Mighty Mogul, Ballynagour, Court Leader and Line Ball. 9 Get Involved (IRE) 6yo, B, Geld, Milan (GB) – Strong Red (GB) (Strong Gale) This fellow took the five-year-old maiden at Borris towards the end of last year. He had shown form on his debut last season before pulling up and was then hampered and brought down on his second start so it was this season that he began to show his true ability. He showed promise at Castletown in a competitive maiden on his first completed start and stepped up to win at the second attempt. A sharp speed track at Borris suggests this fellow has plenty of speed and can be very effective when dropping down in trip also. This race was run in a decent time and he looks to be still improving with more to come. 10 Queer Times (IRE) 6yo, B, Geld, Zagreb (USA) – Lucy Walters (IRE) (King’s Ride) This fellow showed promise towards the end of last season but really built on that this term by winning on his seasonal reappearance at Boulta and beating Black Glen Boy in the process. This race was run in a decent time and showed that there was more to come. He then made his debut at winners level when contesting a Templenacarriga contest and narrowly missed out a quick follow up when beaten a length by the vastly more experience Gullivar. This fellow seems capable of stepping up to a higher level and winning his share of races. 11 Yes I Did (IRE) 5yo, B, Mare, Craigsteel (GB) – Younevertoldme (IRE) (Simply Great (FR)) An impressive winner of her only outing to date when scoring in a competitive event at Ballinaboola. Her winning margin could well have been even further but she was a little green at the last where she surrendered some ground but that merely points to plenty more improvement from this exciting mare. Her dam won a twenty three runner maiden hurdle at Punchestown on her debut over flights for Jessica Harrington so there is every reason to expect this mare to progress and enjoy success on the track also. 12 Winged Express (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Winged Love (IRE) – Zaffaran Express (IRE) (Zaffaran (USA)) Dual winning pointer who beat Asian Fitz to win his maiden on only his second start at Tallow when staying on very strongly in the latter stages. Having contested some well above average winners race he is now gaining the benefit of that experience and in doing so went on to win at Aghabullogue earlier this month. He made most of the running and battled well when required to win by a tight margin. He is clearly a solid stayer with a good attitude and therefore retains all the attributes to win plenty of races. 14 Wade Harper (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Westerner (GB) – Nosie Betty (IRE) (Alphabatim (USA)) This is a full brother to the high class hurdler Cole Harden who is already a five times winner and 158 rated hurdle with Warren Greatrex. This fellow is also progressive and looks an exciting prospect for the future. Each run has shown a notable amount of improvement and each run has shown talent. He was a decent third in a top notch four year old maiden at Kilworth. His next outing saw him finish 4l behind Just Cause who is the Gigginstown House owned full brother to Clondaw Court. On this fellows final start he continued to show improvement by winning a five year old maiden on his third start this season. He is a tough sort who takes his racing well and shows improvement with every outing so it must be considered likely, given his pedigree, that he fits the profile of a horse who can contest top level NH races throughout his career. 18 Oscar Blue (IRE) 5yo, Gr, Geld, Oscar (IRE) – Blossom Rose (IRE) (Roselier (FR)) Having been badly hampered and taken out of the race on his debut at Cregg he can only fairly be judged based on his effort at Borris which was top notch. This looked a very notable maiden run in a very fast time which was 16 seconds faster than the average time on the day and he finished second to the more experienced Fingerontheswitch. The front pair drew a distance clear of the third which is always a good sign and that third placed horse had credible previous form to give further confidence to the form this fellow brings with him. He handled the yielding going on that occasion but being out of a Roselier mare suggests he should be very ground versatile and act on any underfoot conditions also. Fits the profile of a horse with plenty more improvement in him and a lot of races to win. 20 Churchtown Champ (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Robin Des Champs (FR) – Annagh Lady (IRE) (Dr Massini (IRE)) A very impressive winner of his only outing at Boulta in December. This fellow has all the attributes to go all the way and compete at the very highest level of the sport. He is by top sire Flemensfirth and is a full brother to the high class seven timers winner Muirhead who was trained by Noel Meade. Few four year olds will produced as visually impressive a performance as this fellow delivered when outclassing his rivals on his debut at Boulta. He never appeared to be stretched at any stage and could have stepped up at any stage had there been anything good enough to pose a question. In all likelihood it will take a high class horse to test him as he looks to possess a lot of speed and quality and is a very exciting addition to the catalogue. 21 Twenty Eight Guns (GB) 5yo, B, Mare, Black Sam Bellamy (IRE) – Glory Be (GB) A thoroughly consistent and tough mare who ran five times as a four year old and finished in the first four on all bar one outing. Her first start saw her within 15l of Whistle Dixie who is now a bumper winner and is also a half-sister to Kicking King. This mare has since that run progressed to finish a close third at Kilworth and then ran very close behind Special Princess at Boulta and that winner has since finished a fair fourth in a bumper. She returned to the same venue and retained her form to win a maiden comfortably by seven lengths. This was a competitive sixteen runner maiden and she came out on top and not only retained her previous form but stepped up to a new level. She seems to still be improving. This is a mare capable of taking plenty of races and always produces her best so should be able to win plenty of races on the track. 22 Just Acting (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Presenting (GB) – Azalea (IRE) (Marju (IRE)) A very promising sort who finished second as a four-year-old at the end of last year when second in a decent Boulta contest. On that occasion he was making his debut and only found Just Cause too good. This was a very decent effort as Just Cause had previous experience when a close third last season under the care of Gordon Elliott. The Gigginstown House charge is a full brother to Clondaw Court and is now trained by Mouse Morris and even with his added experience had to dig deep to beat this debutante. It seems certain more improvement will come from Just Acting who can go on to much better things and develop into a very decent NH prospect. 23 Sounds Of Italy (IRE) 6yo, B, Geld, Milan (GB) – Sound Hill (FR) (Green Tune (USA)) This showed a lot of promise on his debut in December in a competitive five-year-old maiden at Boulta when only beaten 13l behind Mai Fitz Jack. Having had that experience he stepped up next time to win at Templenacarriga comfortably from Some Finish. Although only his second start and pitched against many more experienced rivals he made the running here and one by one his rivals struggled and he drew clear in the closing stages. He should be well capable of paying his way from here. 24 Coole Charmer (IRE) 6yo, Ch, Geld, Flemensfirth (USA) – Ericas Charm (GB) (Alderbrook (GB)) This fellow is a very promising sort who seemed to have done everything right on his debut at Dromahane last Saturday. He fell in front at the last and looked to be going best at the time. This was a polished performance to this point and he is likely to be a versatile sort. His dam won a bumper, a hurdle and a chase for Peter Bowen and his half sister Layla Joan is a 145 rated hurdler. 26 Ballyluskey (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Oscar (IRE) – Before (IRE) (Ore) On his only outing when contesting a four-year-old maiden race at Tattersalls this fellow ran a cracker to finish third. The winner Drumlee Sunset was since sold for 130,000 at Brightwells December Sale and this fellow showed a lot of promise to run so well on his debut in such a highly regarded maiden. He is a half brother to a multiple winner so every reason to think this fellow has a bright career on the track ahead of him. 27 Knocknanuss (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Beneficial (GB) – Dato Vic (IRE) (Old Vic) An impressive winner of his only start to date when taking a maiden at Killeagh earlier this month. He picked up the running half way and was always in command over his rivals. Closely related to Dato Star, Allez Vic and Hoh Invader he is a very exciting addition to the catalogue with a big future ahead of him. 29 Hawkhurst (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Flemensfirth (USA) – Silaoce (FR) (Nikos) A very impressive winner of his only outing at Boulta in December. 29A Delusionofgrandeur (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Mahler (GB) – Olivia Rose (IRE) (Mujadil (USA)) A very useful addition to the catalogue here. This son of Mahler showed all the right attributes on his debut last Sunday at Ballinaboola. He kept finding more for his riders urgings and seemed to thrive on the experience as he went away at the line from his nearest rival. The runner up had the benefit of a previous run and that was behind the exciting Hawkhurst so this is a performance which must be taken seriously. He looks a potentially high class staying chaser in the making and one to go on all shortlists here. 30A Go Long (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Hurricane Run (IRE) – Monumental Gesture (Head For Heights) A potentially very talented sort who was second on his debut last Sunday. At Killeagh and off a very strong pace he ran into a very decent sort in Knocknanuss and the pair were well clear of the remainder. Furthermore this fellow came from a long way off the pace in the closing stages and was closing quickly on the run to the line. It appears as though there is a lot of improvement to come and it was a performance worth taking serious note of in its own right. He is beautifully bred and on any evidence to date in the formbook he can hold his own on a top class page. 31 Some Finish (IRE) 6yo, B, Geld, Kayf Tara (GB) – Kylie Kaprice (GER) (Big Shuffle (USA)) But for a last fence fall this fellow would have three very promising placed efforts to his name from only four career starts. He was a very close third on his debut at Monksgrange when beaten less than two lengths. His only disappointing outing followed but on his return to action this season he was running very well when exiting at the last when a very solid third. He then returned to action earlier this month to finish a creditable second to the promising and unexposed Sounds Of Italy. Whilst a maiden success looks a formality on all evidence to date this looks a horse who could make winning a habit once getting off the mark. 32 Hes Our Vinnie (IRE) 6yo, B, Geld, Vinnie Roe (IRE) – Sean’s Choice (IRE) (Jurado (USA)) This fellow got into a real tussle with Theflyingportrait from two out at Dromahane and came out on top as he found that bit more on the run in. This was in a late five-year-old maiden at the end of last year. He had been threatening to run a big race at Avaune on his previous outing but exited two out. None the worse for that outing he bounced back and won at the next attempt and is clearly up to progressing further. He should be a real fun type on the track and capable of paying his way. 32A Thady Quil (IRE) 5yo, Ch, Geld, Stowaway (GB) – Aunt Sue (IRE) (Shahanndeh) This dual runner up seems to still be on the upgrade and furthermore he has run in two top notch maidens to ensure confidence in the form. On his debut he finished second to the potentially high class Hawkhurst who is a full brother to Muirhead. On his second start he was headed just before the last by the equally exciting Delusionofgrandeur. On his second start he looked somewhat green in the closing stages suggesting there is even more improvement to come even though he has already signaled his ability to compete with some very useful sorts to date. 34 Raise A Tail (IRE) 5yo, Ch, Geld, Definite Article (GB) – Fillmein (IRE) (Gone Fishin) Took a four year old maiden at the end of last season having shown a lot of ability on his debut and only other start. On his Kirkistown debut he was close up behind Minmore Lodge who had previously run very well on his debut behind Cogryhill. Form which now ties in closely with leading Cheltenham bumper winner Au Quart De Tour. That suggests this was a decent Kirkistown contest. This fellow gave it a further boost by pulling out next time and winning at Borris. He looks a sharp type who could drop back in trip and has plenty of speed. He looks an ideal type to make into an above average middle distance performer on the track. 35 Ballinure (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Alkaadhem (GB) – Christy’s Pride (IRE) (Kambalda) This is a very progressive sort who is on a notable upward curve. He gained valuable experience on his Inch debut in April in a competitive four year old maiden. On his return to action in late December he was a close third behind Nambour in what looked a high class maiden. The improvement continued as he then went to Kilfeacle only two weeks later and was a very close second to the exciting First Crusader. This horse continues to show improvement with every run so it seems he has to be taken seriously as a banker maiden winning type next time and should continue his progress onto the track. 37 Full Cry (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Milan (GB) – Gaye Melody (IRE) (Un Desperado (FR)) Ran a cracker on his debut when a very close fourth beaten less than three lengths in a fast run Cregg maiden. On his second run he ran into the very exciting For Carmel but was only eight lengths adrift. He has now run twice in barely over a month and shown a very promising level of form on each occasion and has all the attributes of a horse with more to offer. Looks absolute banker maiden winning material who has very realistic aspirations of a successful track career. 38 An Cathaoir (IRE) 6yo, B, Geld, Turtle Island (IRE) – Money For Buttons (IRE) (Alphabatim (USA)) This fellow ran a cracker late last season when only beaten 11l by April Dusk at Ballybunion. That winner franked the form by running to an RPR of 122 on his only subsequent start in a high class Ffos Las hurdle. An Cathaoir then went to Tinahely on his seasonal debut here and ran in an exceptionally fast run contest. He held his own however by finishing a very creditable second with form horses third and fourth to give the race real depth. Ideal chasing type who can win plenty of races. 39 Hey Bill (IRE) 5yo, B, Geld, Indian Danehill (IRE) – Grange More (IRE) (Ridgewood Ben (GB)) An interesting sort who is somewhat unlucky but certainly more talented that his form figures suggest. He was running nicely before being brought down on his debut in May last year at the second last. On his seasonal return at Lingstown he was a close second at Lingstown in a fair maiden behind Highway Storm. Uncharacteristically he fell next time when in front at Tattersalls three from home. To his credit he turned out twice since just over a month later and was 13l behind First Crusader at Kilfeacle and 8l behind Delusionofgranduer at Ballinaboola. He is from the family of Royal County Star who didn’t bypass 2m 4f for much of the early part of his career and this fellow may not be a true stayer who could appreciate a step back in trip for the moment
