With integrity Promoting respect and responsibility Providing a caring, secure environment Striving for excellence Deputy Principal’s Message Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” - Joshua J. Marine Dear Parents A New Year I have recently had the opportunity to speak to a number of people about the start to a new year after a good long holiday. Most enquire if I am looking forward to the start of the year. For me it is always an easy answer. Yes, I am excited about the start of the year. I feel privileged that I am a teacher and get to feel that beginning of the year excitement that is generated when children, teachers and friends come together after a time apart. Don`t get me wrong, I love the holidays and am appreciative of them, but I do enjoy coming back to school! I am also very grateful for the opportunity of fulfilling the role of leading this special school in an acting capacity until the Department finalises the Principal’s post. I will be involved in the day to day running and administration of the school, effectively taking over the role that Mr Green played last year. Mrs le Roux has been appointed as our Departmental Acting Principal and she will be responsible for liaising with the department of education. We are fortunate indeed to have the wealth of experience and genuine passion for our school that Mrs le Roux brings to that position. Mrs le Roux will still be a Grade Two class teacher and will still carry out her roles as Junior Primary HOD in charge of Grade Two and Three. Page 2 of 7 We welcome Gina Layzell into the Winston Park Primary School Family. She takes on the newly created role of Finance and Business Manager and we wish her a happy and satisfying time with us. We are pleased to have employed Jessica Campbell who has moved from being an intern with us last year into a teaching post as our JP PE teacher. Our intern programme is thriving and we now have an intern complement of twenty aspiring teachers. We have introduced two PE/Sport interns and we now also have three interns in the Senior Primary. On a sad note, our condolences go out to the Thirboan family: Shirley, Sashen and Shriyan, on the passing of their husband and father in the holidays. We carry them in our thoughts and prayers. Mr and Mrs Green became grandparents on the 30 December and they now have a beautiful granddaughter, Amelia Rose. Congratulations to you both and to Amelia`s parents. th 2015 is our school’s 40 year and we are happy to be celebrating forty years of outstanding education. We have a number of celebrations planned for the year and will let you know about them shortly so you can start planning to join us in those festivities. We wish you all a challenging, exciting and prosperous new year. NB: The important sms letter is going home with your child/ren today. Please return these promptly.
