St. Peter’s Men’s Club - Election of Officers
Meeting - This Sunday, January 25, 1:00pm at
St. Peter.(This is a non-football day!) Rance Kaiser
& Derek Grilley ARE NOT seeking re-election. Signup sheet to attend this meeting is in the entry of
church - if no interest- the Men’s Club will be dissolved and all monies turned over to youth projects.
The Maintenance and Beautification Committee of St.
Peter has been working on plans for the enhancement of
the church sanctuary. A new, larger corpus has
arrived. This was gifted by a former parishioner. Plans
are to have someone help to build the cross, to hold this
on our sanctuary wall. Additionally, the wall will be
covered in a dry, stacked stone and framed on its sides
with a cherry wood to match the altar and blend with the
other stone work (the baptismal font) in the church.
Committee members have begun requesting bids on this
project, however would like to offer this opportunity to all
parishioners, in case there is someone out there that
would LIKE TO help with this project and/or donate some
of their time. We are also looking for bids to paint the
church proper and fellowship hall. Anyone interested in
helping in any way, may contact the church office.

Blessing of Candles - February 7th
The blessing of the candles on the Feast of
the Presentation of the Lord became part of
the Church tradition in the 11th century.
The feast is also known as “Swieto Matko
Boskiej Gromnicznej” in Polish and is a very
old Polish tradition. The people of Poland
would bring candles decorated with either
ribbons or liturgical symbols to church to be
blessed. The blessed candles (gromice) are
taken home to be used when needed during
the church year such as:
the birth of a child, an
illness of someone at
home, in a severe storm or
any other occasion which
implores the presence of
Jesus Christ in the home.
On February 7th, please bring your
candles to be blessed during the 4:00pm
Mass here at ABVM.

CLUSTER NEWS
"Important Reminder" This Wednesday, January 28th: PARENT & STUDENT MEETING
FOR ALL 7TH-10TH GRADERS, 6-7PM at St. Joseph. Confirmation requirements, planning
and youth opportunities will be discussed. Thank you in advance for your attendance.
The Catholic Schools Week Collection
The theme this year is “Catholic Schools:
Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.”
This theme encompasses several concepts at the
heart of a Catholic education.
First, schools are communities — small families in
their own right, but also members of the larger
community of home, church, city and nation.
Faith, knowledge and service are three measures
by which any Catholic school can and should be
judged. In the Diocese of Superior, Catholic
Schools Week is an opportunity to focus our
shared efforts on helping to ensure the vitality of
our 15 Catholic elementary schools. Our Catholic
schools are an important part of the mission of
the Catholic Church. Please use the envelope in
your packet in the regular collection this
weekend. Thank you for your generosity!
Would You Like Your Home Blessed?
The traditional method for blessing homes
using incense, chalk, and “Jordan Water.”
The chalk is used to mark 20 + C + M + B + 15
over doorways. The numerals consecrate the
new year. The initials remind us of the legendary name of the magi - Caspar, Melchior,
and Balthasar and also stand for the Latin
motto Christus mansionem benedicat (“May
Christ bless this house”). Deacon Cullen will
be blessing homes in February. He will have
prayers for protection, sprinkling of the house
and spiritual cleansing. Please call your parish
office if you would like to have Deacon Cullen
do this blessing. Then we will make a
schedule and let you know when he will come
to your house. Thank you and God bless!

Prayer for New Bishop
God, eternal shepherd, you tend your Church
in many ways and rule us with love. Please
choose for our Diocese of Superior one of
your good servants to be the shepherd of
your flock. Give him a spirit of courage and
right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and
love. By governing with fidelity those
entrusted to his care, may he build your
Church as a sign of salvation for the world.
