CHARUSAT is promoted by Shri Charotar Moti
Sattavis Patidar Kelvani Mandal. It is established
under Gujarat Act No. 8 of 2009, Govt. of Gujarat and
recognized to award degrees as specified by UGC
under Section 22 of UGC Act 1956. The university
campus is sprawling over 105 acres of lush green
landscape with ultra modern facilities for teaching,
learning, research, sports, healthcare, student housing,
food, banking, transportation etc. CHARUSAT is a
dynamically growing research lad university with

About the Institute
CSPIT is constituent institute of CHARUSAT.
The institute offers UG, PG and PhD programs in EE,
ME, CE, IT, EC and Civil Engineering. The institute
is established with a view to promote excellence in
engineering education and to prepare the young talent
to meet challenges of engineering and technology.
About the Department
Department of Information Technology offers UG and
PG (IT) programs. It is equipped with high-tech
laboratories. The department is also having a
simulation lab with the highly professional software.
Department is also running various academies like
CCNA, ORACLE and MICROSOFT IT. Department
has the faculties from the diversify fields.
About the Workshop
 This course on computer networks is for PG
students and Faculties.

This workshop has an online component
(videos and quizzes and tutorials), to be done
during the month of January.
 The online component is a pre-requisite for
the hands-on component, and this will require
a total time-commitment of about 20 hours.
 Two days hands-on component, to be done
during
the
interactive
session
at
CHAURASAT, 1st -2nd Feb 2015.

 Overview of Computer Networks: Design
Goals and Metrics, OSI Layering, QoS related
to Inter-Layer Communication.
 Medium Access Layer and Link Layer
Switching:

Introduction

Wireless
Technology, WiFi (IEEE 802.11): PHY
Basics, DCF MAC, Management, Frame
Format
Basics,
Ethernet:
Technology
Overview, Switching, Spanning Tree.
 Application Layer: Overview of Applications,
DNS Architecture, DNS Records, WWW
Architecture, WWW Format.
 Two full day’s hands-on session on above
mention content using Wireshark, dig and
apache2.
Pre-Requisites
 Students should have basic exposure to
Computer Science in terms of basic data
structures (stack, queue and graph) and basic
programming concepts.
 For the hands-on workshop, students should
have prior exposure to the Linux commandline terminal.
 Participant should come with their own
laptop, installed with Linux (recommended
versions: Ubuntu 12 or Ubuntu 14).
Resource Person
Eminent Speaker Dr. Bhaskaran Raman from IITBombay is invited to deliver talk and conduct hands
on sessions. His research interests and expertise are in
communication networks, wireless/mobile networks.
His current interests are in understanding WiFi
performance issues, the use of communication
technology for transportation related issues, and
appropriate technology for rural communication.

The faculties from the academic institutions, persons
from the industries, research scholars and the students
can participate in the program. The registration fees
for the participation include lecture notes, refreshment
and lunch. All payment should be made by a demand
draft drawn in favor of “Charotar University of
Science & Technology”, payable at Anand. The
completed registration form accompanied by the
demand draft should reach the event coordinator on or
before January 10th, 2015. List of selected candidates
will be displayed on CHARUSAT website on
January 12th, 2015. Accommodation will be made
available on a request.
