Technology Help Needed
Technology Advisory Committee
Parents are being sought to work on this committee in conjunction with teachers and the
school technology staff. The tasks involved may include
annual maintenance and updates to the district technology plan, participating in
discussions related to the use of technology in education and learning and evaluating
new education related equipment and applications. Experience using technology in the
workplace would be beneficial. Meetings will be several times per year.
Parents interested in serving on this committee please contact Samira Hakki
at [email protected] or 423-7020 x115
Warrior Editor
A new volunteer is needed to manage the schools’ weekly newsletter, “The Warrior” each week.
Please contact Lisa Wholey at [email protected]
Lawn Co-ed Unified Basketball Team
We are looking for boys & girls for student Athletes and Partners to join our
Unified Basketball Team.
Games will be held between March and May 2015
The Lawn Team will play against other Middle Schools in East Greenwich,
North Kingstown, Newport and South Kingstown.
Special Olympics Unified Sports® combines people with intellectual disabilities (traditional Special
Olympics athletes) and without intellectual disabilities (called partners) on sports teams for training
and competition. In Rhode Island, Unified Sports® programs are offered in soccer, basketball,
volleyball, softball, golf, sailing, bowling, flag football, tennis, cross-country running, cycling, senior
sports and ballroom dancing.
Unified Sports® is particularly successful in school settings, creating an inclusive environment where
everyone benefits. Special education students experience new social opportunities and make new
friends they may not have otherwise. Their non-disabled peers learn valuable lessons of character
development and may serve as mentors. Many parents and siblings also find that Unified Sports®
offers a new way to spend time together and meet other families.

Melrose Car Safety
Listed below are the procedures for parents of students in Grades K-4 to follow for car safety
at Melrose School.

If you drive your vehicle to school, the safest method for pick up
and drop off is by the playground on Arnold Avenue.

If you choose to park on Melrose Avenue, children should use the sidewalks
and crosswalks and cross the street with an adult. Holding your child’s
hand would also increase safety.

Park on the west side of Melrose Avenue.

Be cautious and drive slowly when approaching the school during arrival
and dismissal times.
Thank you for your cooperation.
