SNWS - SONG
Did you know our school has a song? Ms.
Jarvis-Murray wrote the lyrics and music for
“our song”
The words are as follows:
The School Song
We enter proudly these great halls
Respect and kindness rule
We’re tasked with learning between these walls
Southdale-North Woodside School
Among us we have great thinkers
Musicians and athletes too
We have such pride in our community
Just look at what we can do
Southdale-North Woodside
Working hard all year long
Southdale-North Woodside
We’re smart we’re proud and we’re strong

FAMILY POTLUCK SUPPER
Thursday February 12, 2015
This event will be held in the gym at SNWS and
is intended to bring together families and staff
from SNWS to get to know each other better and
to discuss other potential family events. Bring
your children, your appetite and your ideas for a
casual dinner in the gym! Time 6:00 – 8:00.
This event is a potluck dinner with informal
activities to keep the kids busy, while the adults
meet and mingle. Please indicate what you
intend to bring (ie. Buns, veggie tray, fruit tray,
salad, dessert, drinks, etc.) on the form that
will be sent home. We know some people may
change their mind about their dish prior to the
event, but it allows some planning to ensure we
have most of the food groups covered!
Disposable plates, napkins and cutlery will be
provided and each person attending will be
charged $1 at the door. Please watch for the
notice coming home January 26th.
FAMILIES OF SNWS
Thanks to all who attended the Breakfast with
Santa. Once again, it was a huge success!

SCHOOL CLOSURE FOR
INCLEMENT WEATHER
The Halifax Regional School Board takes great
care when making the decision to alter the
normal operations of schools in the event of
severe or inclement weather. Decisions on school
closures and/or bus cancellations are posted on
the board’s website at www.hrsb.ns.ca, on
Twitter
at
www.twitter.com/HRSB_Official,
recorded on 464-INFO (4636) and communicated
to all local radio stations. You can also receive
notice of school and bus cancellations by e-mail
or text message by following the link on the front
page (left side) of the HRSB website. If you are
interested in learning more on how decisions
regarding closures and cancellations are made,
visit
http://www.hrsb.ns.ca/content/id/1137.html
POINTS TO REMEMBER:
 Parents must ensure that students are
properly dressed for weather conditions.
 In the event that schools are closed early,
parents will be notified prior to their
child(ren) being dismissed. Parents MUST
check in at the office first.
 In the event that an emergency arises and
school must be evacuated, the children will
be taken to Prince Arthur Junior High.
 It is VITAL that you, as parents, inform the
school regarding changes in phone numbers
or emergency contact persons. A valid
working number must be available at all
times for your child.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT
We want to thank parents, guardians and
relatives for coming to our Christmas
Concerts in December. The concert was taken
from the book “Love from Katie” by Paddy
Muir. Mrs. Jarvis Murray developed the music
for which the words were sung to. We were
very fortunate to have the author of the book,
Ms. Paddy Muir, read the book at the Primary –
Grade 2 concert.
TELEPHONE NUMBERS
We are finding that many of the phone numbers
we have on file no longer work. It is CRUCIAL
that we have current contact numbers. Please
call Mrs. Lake at 464-2081 if you have a new
number.
We are continuing our search for two additional
lunch monitors and substitutes. Please call the
school if you are interested – 464-2081
