Newsletter Week 3 Term 1

Newsletter Week 3 Term 1 - 2015
Kia Ora & Welcome
- A warm welcome to Oliver, Guy, Stephen, Amelia, Joshua, Freddie,
Olive, Mingston, Aidan & Fendi to our school. It’s great to have you with us and we know that you will
have a great time at our school.
School Consultation
- The Buildings & Grounds - We have begun our consultation around
the design for our master plan for KNS with our students yesterday. We have formed a team of
students who contributed their ideas towards the new KNS building and grounds design. Our
architects Nigel Dong and Brian Elliott from Designgroup Stapleton and Elliot were impressed with the
diverse and creative ideas that our children had. This is the first in many events that members of our
school community will be involved in. Our first community consultation will be held first week back in
Term Two on Wednesday 22nd April at 7pm in the school hall. We encourage your attendance.
Magpie Lawn Picnic
- Tomorrow night from 4:30 onwards - Just a reminder that Magpie
Lawn picnic for all families is tomorrow night. We are looking forward to all the yummy food that they
PTA will be cooking. Remember to bring your picnic and something to drink (BYO). The weather
forecast is for a clear night so fingers crossed.
Whanau Day
- Tuesday’s whanau day at Scorching Bay was a stunning day for all involved. We
were blessed with the weather. Thanks to all those parents who came and assisted at the beach for
the day. It was great to see all those students from year 1 to 8 working together.
Mandarin Language @ KNS
普通话在KNS
- We have also welcomed to KNS Chunlin
our new Mandarin language assistant who will be teaching every Tuesday with all our students at
some stage during the year. She will be supporting second language learning. Thank to the Confucius
Institute of New Zealand for their support in this venture.
Parent- Student- Teacher Conferences
- These are set for next week for
Wednesday and Thursday. The site for booking your conference with your child’s teacher is open.
Please visit
www.schoolinterviews.co.nz

and please enter the code 223G8 and you will be able to see

the times available for those days. A reminder that students do need to be present for the conference
as they are an integral part of the goal setting and development process.
School Donation
- As you are aware, we rely heavily on your school donation. This year, the
board has set it’s donation at $380 per pupil, which is the same as 2014. We have given a breakdown
of how your donation contributes to the big funding picture. Just to give you some assurity, the other
evening at our meet the teacher night, we were asked how can the school be needing parent
donations when such a rebuild of $8 million is underway soon? The rebuild funding is directly
resourced outside of school operations by the Ministry of Education from it’s building fund. Our
schools operational budget is funded by the Ministry of Education operations grant pool, but they are
not funds that can be utilised for other purposes. Marty Read out BOT Finance representative has put
together the following graph that shows KNS’s income for 2015. You can pay your donation at school
in person (EFTPOS/Credit Card) or online directly to our ASB account 12-3223-0190001-00 using your
child’s name as the reference.
Mathletics
Mathletics is an online Maths learning platform that we use as our homework maths maintenance in Years 38. All those students who were enrolled in 2014 have automatically been re enrolled for 2015 and the yearly fee of $30 added to your account. If you did not participate in Mathletics last year and would like to have an account created please email Loraine at the office and she will create your child an account and add it to your invoice. Any questions about the programme please see your child’s class teacher or email [email protected] Civil Defence
It is time to update our Civil Defence supplies again. We ask all families to donate to school a box of muesli bars that can be used in the case of an emergency. We also carry water supplies which are changed regularly and cans of food which will last another year. Can each family please send the muesli bars to the school office by Friday 13 March. Radical Reading Fundraising
Next week sees our personal challenge starting for all our students. Funds this year are assisting with our outdoor education programmes that we are running this term. Our new PTA class reps will be distributing and collecting the funds for our reading challenge. Information about what the reading challenge looks like will come directly from the syndicate that your child is in on Monday. Road Safety - Drop Off
Several parents have been unaware of the drop off zone outside KNS on Kowhai road is strictly for dropping student off, not parking or for waiting on the yellow lines on the eastern side of the road outside the Visual Resource centre. It is very important that parents/caregivers do not stop on the yellow circle area. If you are dropping off your child, the parks on the left of Kowhai rd are for drop off only. PTA Survey
Just a reminder that the PTA survey was sent to all families last week. We would greatly appreciate these being returned to school as soon as possible please. Have a great week Andrew, Kirsten, Danielle & Charles Additional Newsletters other than the School Newsletter
