BANGOR- Over 200 people attended
the ‘Save Pius X’ meeting Friday night at
the Bangor VFW. It was well organized
with one positive objective in mind, going
forward to keep Pius X doors open. Some
large numbers were discussed like the
$1.2 million deficit to overcome but a goal
of $1.7 was set to start the new school
year with a surplus by 6/3/2015. Pius X
student council got a chance to speak of
how the school, teachers and coaches
have changed their lives led by Domenico

enrollment and ideas for the now and the future. The committees
will be meeting on a weekly basis and will report their progress after each meeting to the Blue and White Foundation who will handle
all money raised through their 501c3 account. If you would like to
get involved please email us your contact information at bluewhite

The Blue and White Foundation acknowledges that all involved
– students, community, teachers, families, and the school staff – feel
that the decision to close Pius X is a huge blow to the Slate Belt area.
Everyone is dealing with many emotions about this situation. We as
a community are not allowing our feelings about what has happened
to overshadow the objective of keeping Pius X open for the students.
We believe we can help find solutions by working cooperatively with
each other and the Dioceses on an action plan to move forward.
Their main objectives are to raise a large amount of money over
a short time span, to increase enrollment, and to work with the
Dioceses on creating stability moving forward. The Blue and White
Foundation welcomes open communication with the Diocese on
how Pius X can be a prosperous school to teach academics, selfdiscipline, and faith to our children.
“This news brings much sadness to the entire Pius X High School
and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School families as well as to the community. As a former student of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and a 1966
graduate of Pius X, the bright spot is that the memories I have of
these schools will stay with me forever. Both of these schools
were conceived of and built by the parish’s pastor and the people

in my parents’ generation who made great sacrifices of their time
and monetary support. I would like to extend best wishes to the
students and hope they can all find a way to continue their Catholic educations” said Mayor Joseph Angelini of Roseto when informed of the closing.
Angelini along with his wife and daughter are all graduates of
Pius X, has been a leader with his voice in support of our community rallying to change the Diocese mind. Mayor Angelini was
not able to attend the meeting due to having hand surgery that
afternoon, however, he wanted the participants at the meeting to
know that he understands the news has really hit hard and that
there is hope in history as our parents and grandparents built our
school. He wants our community to remain confident and strong
in our efforts and recalls how a similar story occurred within the
Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Mayor Angelini feels that the community will give the Diocese good cause to reconsider and reports
that Matt Kerr, spokesman for the Diocese, says the Diocese will
wait to see what happens when it comes to taking further action.
The Blue and White Foundation believes
it is important that we remain positive, continue to bond together, and help each other
through this uncertain time in Pius X history.
We believe that if we stick work together as
the Slate Belt is known to do, that we can be
more than successful in our objective.
Pius X doors are still open! The Blue and
White Foundation is going to work tirelessly
to stay on the task of saving Pius X!
