IPSSA Texas and Sea Turtle Inc. wish to acknowledge and thank Raypak for their generous donation of three 5.5 KW electric heaters to Sea Turtle Inc., South Padre Island.
These heaters will help to keep the hospitals occupants
alive during the coldest spells. Since ocean salt water is
extremely corrosive on heaters they must be replaced
frequently. A personal “Thank You” to Jon Gartner, our
district sales manager, for his efforts to make this happen.
Sea Turtle Inc. is an ongoing project that helps promote
IPSSA Texas to the public. Our next trip down to South
Padre Island is scheduled to be sometime in April 2015,
for any info or to help, contact Gordon (Splash Gordon)

MID CITIES DECEMBER MEETING
Mid Cities chapter held its annual fundraiser/December
member meeting at La Hacienda restaurant in Carrollton, TX. There was good food and camaraderie shared
by the numerous manufacturers reps. and members in
attendance. A successful silent auction was held with
some last minute bartering, adding some humor.
Mid Cities held its officers elections in November with
new names stepping up to do the work (see page 4) .
Our thanks to Jeremy and crew for all their hard work.

CORPUS CHRISTI CHRISTMAS MEETING
Corpus Christi had a Christmas
dinner for it’s members at the
Water Street Restaurant.
Thanks to Mike Baker for all his
hard work.
FORT WORTH CHRISTMAS MEETING
The Fort Worth chapter had a great
time with the white elephant gift
exchange, it’s always lively since
you never know if you get to go
home with the present you picked
or if it gets “stolen” by someone, we
had some funny moments.
SCP, Jetline and Hayward donated
some great items to be auctioned
off, a big THANK YOU to Jeremy,
Mike and Keith.

SAN ANTONIO CHRISTMAS
The San Antonio Chapter had it’s Christmas party at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall on Saturday the 6th of December. A magician
entertained us and we all had a great time gaming for charity. Our Chinese gift exchange is always packed full of fun. Everyone was
invited to help us celebrate the joys of Christmas.

DON’T’ DO IT!
TDLR fines service company $500.00
for performing motor work without
R.A.I.L license.
In a nutshell the situation:
Customer hired pool guy to repair pump
motor. Motor required more than minor
repair with leaking seal kit and noisy bearings. Customer did not want to spend
money on a new motor install, so instead
talked the pool guy into a capacitor
change for $100.00. Naturally, 3 days
later, motor went and also naturally it is
now the pool guys problem. The dissatisfied customer filed a complaint with TDLR.
The judgment:
TDLR fined the pool company $500.00.
The pool guy has 120 days to get the required licensing or TDLR will inspect the
last 2 years of his files and fine him for
every repair made without the license.
Please get your license or refer the work
to someone that has the license. It will
always cost you more in loss of money
and reputation to operate outside the law.
In the Houston area contact Earl Jones,
Houston West Chapter president at 832573-8279 for info on attending his Texas
Pool School.

It Pays to Designate Beneficiaries
1. You will need to add cyanuric acid annually to your pools if
you use which of the following chlorines exclusively
in your pools
a) Trichlor
All you need to do is complete a Beneficiary Designation Form.
But, what happens if you haven’t declared a beneficiary? You will
lose control of who receives your benefits. The payment of funds
will be delayed and, if the benefits are part of a probate, it could
take a year or more for your loved ones to get those funds.
b) Cal hypo
c) Liquid
d) Both B and C
2. If you pour muriatic acid into a pool standing in
one spot, which will you affect the most?
a) pH
b) Sanitizer
c) Pool plaster
d) Total alkalinity
3. Oxidation means to convert all the chlorine that is combined with other compounds in the water into the killing form
or to destroy these compounds so they can be filtered from
the system.
a) True
One of the benefits of membership in IPSSA is a $50,000 life insurance policy.
The good news is that, when your Beneficiary Designation Form is
on file at the IPSSA financial office, the check for your life insurance benefit is issued as soon as the death certificate is received
by the insurance company.
Call the financial office (888-391-6012) if you are not sure whether
or not your Beneficiary Designation Form has been filed. If not, or
if you want to change your beneficiary, you can download the form
from the “Members Area” page of www.ipssatexas.com. Or click
here to download form.
Don’t neglect this small but important
detail which could prevent headaches
for those you love.
b) False
HOUSTON CENTRAL CHAPTER “IN THE SPIRIT OF IPSSA”
Houston Central's annual donation to a charitable organization this year has a special meaning to it and we would like to share this
story with our fellow IPSSA members.
Approximately 3 months ago we were contacted by a young man and his wife who had just recently moved to Houston from Arizona. They had no friends or relatives in
the Houston area, so as a member of an
IPSSA Arizona chapter he reached out to
us seeking advice about the local pool industry. As we talked, Santos explained his
wife (who is 25 yrs old) was undergoing
cancer treatments at a local Houston hospital. He left his pool business in the hands
of a friend/employee and moved to Houston
seeking more advanced treatment for his
wife.
We've come to admire this young couple
for demonstrating the strength, determination and level of maturity far beyond their
years. Furthermore, as president of Houston Central Chapter, I am honored and
proud to serve this chapter and this organization as I have witnessed the overwhelming support for this young couple.
President Bryan Norris (left) and Vice President David Queen (right) present fellow IPSSA member
Santos Castro a donation of $2500 in support of their ongoing battle against cancer.
Sincerely,
Bryan Norris
Houston Central Chapter President
