Newsletter - Stavanger Anglicans

We are an international congregation with people from many different Christian traditions and
denominations. We seek to be a caring community that offers spiritual and practical support as well as
opportunities for personal growth. You are warmly welcome to any of our services and events.
Dear Friends,
This month we enter the season of Lent. It’s early
this year, and it plunges us straight into the season of
preparation, getting oneself spiritually ready for
Easter. I hope this year we can focus on others and
their needs, especially the needs of Children.
In our community we are looking hard at how we serve
our children in church, helping and teaching them of
God’s love through Jesus Christ. All of us need to think
about how we can contribute to God’s work through
helping the next generation.
I hope we can also think about the needs of children
farther afield. Each autumn we prepare shoeboxes to
send as gifts to children who would not normally
receive such gifts. We send shoeboxes with our prayers
and good will; however, we do not know what happens
to them once they have left us. Last year our gifts
went to children in Romania, so through Samaritan’s
Purse, I have been in contact with Sebastian, the
Operation Christmas Child leader in Romania. He has
agreed to visit us this spring with a friend. He can tell
us what these gifts mean to the children and more
about OCC in his country. We hope to host him in
March.
As we enter Lent this year, do think about how you
might prepare yourselves and how you might bless the
children in our community and in communities far
away.
God bless you all,
Revd. Peter Hogarth

Giving
Bethel congregation members often ask how
they can help us work in our community. You
can financially support the work of our church
in many ways:
 Donating in the Sunday collection basket.
 Registering as a member, which means
that the state and kommune give us money.
The government gives the chaplaincy
approximately 800 NOK per person, per
year. The payment is made for anyone with
a personnummer, whether adult or child.
Membership forms are available at the
back of the church.
 Giving tax efficiently by donating directly
to the main chaplaincy account in Oslo
(account number 7029 05 14973). If you
complete your personnummer on the form
and donate annually 500-12,000 NOK, you
will receive a tax rebate.
 Giving directly through your bank to
Stavanger Bethel Congregation (account
number: 3201 08 90631). If you intend to
give regularly to this account, please let our
treasurer, Charles White, know at
[email protected].
