GO OFF TO A LONELY PLACE God is calling. Do I have space
to listen to the call placed in my heart? Seek time and
space to pray. Share your hopes with others, deepen God’s
call. Need guidance? Contact Fr Richard Healey, Vocations
Director, on 0401 621 591, [email protected].
FR ELIO CAPRA IS BACK WITH US IN MAY – THEME:
‘THE SACRAMENTS’. Fr Elio’s visit is the best chance
we have in the near future to help our local Catholics
who may come to us for many of the Sacraments, but
who have not yet realised the pleasure and fulfilment
they will find from celebrating the Eucharist with us
more regularly. To do this we need to plan and prepare how best to reach them, get them to hear Fr Elio, and to get to know them. Our second planning session will be held in the Shack on Tuesday 10th February
at Midday. Please just come along and bring your
lunch and a friend. If you would like a copy of the
notes from our first meeting please contact the Office.
HOUSEBOUND PARISHIONERS & COMMUNION If you have a
car and 15 to 20 minutes after the 7.30 am or 9.30 am
Masses on Sundays, your help is needed to take Holy Communion to sick & housebound people in our parish. Fr John
will assist and commission you as a Eucharistic Minister for
the sick, and will introduce you to your designated housebound person. Please give this matter your serious consideration as the need is great. The custom of taking Communion from the Sunday Mass to the sick goes back to the very
early Church.
THE CREED From this week until the end of June we will
have the Apostles’ Creed at Mass, and from July to the end
of December the Nicene Creed. The aim is to help us all
memorise both creeds for those occasions when we do not
have words up on the screen.

POPE FRANCIS – Praying with the Gospel
During his Tuesday morning Mass, Pope Francis talked
about prayer. He said that reading the Gospel everyday
helps Christians change their lives, for the better.
"Pick up the Gospel, a small passage, imagine what happened and talk with Jesus about it. Your attention should be
fixed on Jesus and not on a TV soap opera…And with this we
allow hope to grow, because we have our gaze fixed, we
keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. We should all carry out this
contemplative prayer. 'But I have so much to do!' At home,
15 minutes, pick up the Gospel, a small passage, imagine
what happened and talk with Jesus about it. So your gaze
will be fixed on Jesus and not so much on a TV soap opera,
for example. Your ears will be focused on the words of Jesus
and not so much on your neighborhood gossip ... ".
"Memory of our past journey, memory of so many graces
received from the Lord. And hope, looking at the Lord, who
is the only one who can give me hope. And in order to gaze
at the Lord, to know the Lord, we pick up the Gospel and
carry out this contemplative prayer. Today, for example, try
for 10 minutes - 15, no more – to read the Gospel, picture it
and say something to Jesus. And nothing more. And so your
knowledge of Jesus will be bigger and your hope will grow.
Do not forget, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. And in order
to do this contemplative prayer.” (Morning Mass 3rd February 2015 Source: Vatican Radio)
GOSPEL CONNECTIONS
DO YOU HAVE THE CURE?
Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a healer.
She and her sisters welcomed the abandoned sick and
cured for them until they died. She didn’t make their diseases go away, but she cured some of the worst symptoms
– isolation and loneliness. Her patients died with people
who loved and respected them.
Scripture scholars debate over the type of illnesses Jesus
healed. They also debate over how he did it. But they agree
on one important thing; he cured some of the worst symptoms. In Ancient Israel, people with serious diseases were
often kicked out of town because religious laws forbid others from coming too close to them. Or, some people
thought sicknesses showed that you had sinned against
God. That was another reason to stay clear.
Jesus did the opposite. He approached the sick. He
touched and embraced them. He brought them back into
the community, where they could find love and respect.
How about us? Do we ignore, mock, or judge some people
who are ill or disabled? Or, like Jesus did with Peter’s
mother-in-law, do we stop, reach out a hand, and care for
them? Many people in hospitals and nursing homes are
praying that someone will bring them back into community
by visiting them to show concern and respect. Some might
even be in our own families, schools, workplaces, or even
in our street.
How do I react when I’m around people who are seriously
ill or impaired? Who inspires me by their compassion for
those who are sick?
The Action Response
You may not be the type who would stand on a street corner and shout about Jesus. But choose a place, a situation,
a relationship in your life where you are willing to explore
the passionate side of your call to faith.
