Tune into PULSE 94.1 FM on Sun at 11am, repeated Wed 10pm or listen in via podcast anytime at www.radio.dow.org.au NOVEMBER CROSS: It was suggested by a parishioner to have made a large cross, which will be known as the November Cross, to be used at Parish Funerals. At an appropriate time during the funeral, (time to be decided by Father John), a small cross engraved with the deceased’s name will be given to the family to hang on the November Cross. The small crosses will be added at each funeral to the November Cross to remain till the following November. Then, during November, each family who have lost loved ones, will be invited back to collect the small crosses and celebrate Mass with the Parish Community. On the 25th of October, the November Cross will be placed in the church for all to see. On this day, it is hoped Father will bless the cross. Also on this day, a more detailed explanation of the procedure will be given. From the Liturgy committee. POPE FRANCIS – ON PRAYER ry day as if we did not have a story. Each of us has his or her own. And with this story in our heart we approach prayer, like Mary. Often we are distracted, like Martha, by work, by the day’s events, by those things that we have to do, and we forget this story. Remembering that we were chosen, chosen by God. Remembering our journey of covenant. Have we respected this covenant, or not? No, we are sinners and we remember this, and we remember God’s promise to us which never disappoints, which is our hope. This is the true prayer. From: Rome Reports 7/10/2014 LOVE AND RULES One of my best friends was a high school principal for many years. I’ll always remember one of his rules for teachers: when you doubt whether to discipline a student, show compassion and give the student a break. He clearly learned from this week’s Gospel passage. In Jesus’ time some Pharisees thought Jews could stay close to God by following more than six hundred religious rules. These rules covered everything from eating to bathing. All these rules were considered equally important, and every single one had to be followed. In this week’s passage, some Pharisees try to trap Jesus in an argument without a clear answer, perhaps hoping he will say some of the rules aren’t as important as others. But Jesus won’t do it. Instead he challenges them to apply all rules in a way that shows their allegiance to the two greatest commandments from the Old Testament: love of God and love of neighbour. That challenge comes down through the ages to us, as well. Rules are important for a lot of reasons. But my friend the principal was upset when he saw teachers discipline students without showing compassion or respect. As disciples our love must come first and love must be shown through compassion and respect. Sometimes compassion tells us not to enforce a rule. What rules do you enforce? Do you baby-sit your sisters or brothers? Do compassion and respect rule the way you use authority? Are you a team captain? How do you show compassion and respect to new members of the team, especially when humiliating opponents by hazing them is such a problem in sports? Do you lead a club, youth group or social activity? Do compassion and respect guide the way you treat peers working on group projects? This week take a moment to offer a prayer of gratitude. Remember that God wants to show us compassion and respect, not punishment for breaking rules. Although we all need to be challenged at times, God knows that people thrive when they feel loved and respected. Let’s remember that as we go about enforcing rules. How would God’s view of rules affect the way you enforce them? Give an example. This habit of remembering our life is not a very common (from GPBS—Gather Proclaim Break Send) practice. We forget things; we live in the moment and then forget the past. And each of us has a story: a story of grace, a story of sin, a story of journey, so many things... It is a good LAST WEEKEND: 1st COLLECTION thing to pray with our history. (A prayer like) the one Paul does, where he tells a piece of his story, but in general says: 2nd COLLECTION 'He has chosen me! He saved me! He was my companion on the journey ...' When Jesus says to Martha: 'You are worried and troubled about many things, but you only need one thing. Mary has chosen the better part.' What does he mean? (He means) listening to the Lord and remembering. You cannot pray eve- CODE: Very Good Good Hangin’ in HELP When patronizing our sponsors, please thank them for supporting our Parish Bakery Blinds & Awnings Williams Blinds Funerals THIEN DINH HOT BREAD * Verticals * Security Doors * Roller Blinds * Awnings * Venetians * Roller Shutters * Roman Blinds * Panel Glides * Plantation Shutters U14/Picton Business Park Tel:(02) 4677 2777 15 Henry Street Fax: (02) 4677 2919 Picton NSW 2571 www.williamsbinds.com.au Shop 4 Argyle St, Picton 2571 Tel: 4677 2800 Open 7 Days Funerals Take Away Australian Family Owned and Operated 24 Hours - 7 days Pre – arranged funeral plans All Areas PICTON - 4677 1644 365-367 Argyle St CAMDEN - 4655 6433 67 Broughton St www.williamrgroves.com.au Catholic High-School Local Member Tutoring Jai Rowell MP Member for Wollondilly Office : Shop 1- 117 Remembrance Dr Tahmoor Phone : (02) 4683 2622 Mail : PO Box 1005 Tahmoor 2573 Email : [email protected] Auto Mechanic Auto Mechanic Mechanical Repairs 4683 2529 Tyres & Batteries 4683 2529 4681 0760 Cnr Bargo River Rd & Rememberance Dr Tahmoor NSW 2573 In2Cricket Juniors Senior Boys Girls Rego during August 403 HUME HIGHWAY (B.P.)
