Come along and have a meal and a drink in a relaxed environment and then hear Fr Duane open up this important current issue. For 18 - 35yr olds (Clergy, religious and leaders of all ages are most welcome!) INVITATION TO THE CHRISM MASS – WEDNESDAY 1 APRIL 7.30PM Each year during Holy Week the Chrism Mass is celebrated at St Francis Xavier Cathedral. If you have never participated you are missing one of the most solemn and significant liturgies of our Church. During the Mass, the Priests of the Diocese renew their commitment to priestly service; Bishop Peter blesses the oil of catechumens (for Baptism) and the oil of the sick (for Anointing of the Sick) and consecrates the oil of chrism (for Baptism, Confirmation, the Ordination of clergy and the consecration of altars). The oils are then distributed to clergy to be used during the year with their local communities. Everyone is warmly invited to join Bishop Peter and our clergy celebrate this significant event in the life of the Church. LET YOUR FEAR DIE I remember the first time I volunteered at a homeless shelter. I was scared. Were these guys dangerous? Would I say something to tick them off? I only went because a good friend who had gone many times before went with me. And am I grateful that I went. I found out I had nothing to fear. And that first shelter trip started an incredible journey. That was more than twenty years ago. Since then I’ve worked in countless shelters in the various places where I have lived. I’ve met incredible people. Some have been homeless. Some have been volunteers. If I hadn’t conquered my fears that first night, I’d have missed so much. God has incredible experiences lined up for you. God has awesome people ready to enrich your life. You only need to follow Jesus’ advice this week to find it all. Abandon the world’s measure for happiness. Go where Jesus would go. Find the people who are forgotten or abused. Serve till it hurts – and then serve some more. Give up time you’d rather use for yourself. That’s what it means to be like the grain of wheat. Don’t let fear stop you. It didn’t stop Jesus. Reach out in prayer for courage. Do the right thing in spite of pressure. You’ll find a new life you never expected – and it will be awesome. How does fear sometimes limit us from living the gospel?
