ALL LODGE NOTIFICATIONS IN THIS PUBLICATION ARE OFFICIAL NOTIFICATIONS AND NO OTHER NEED BE GIVEN NAPA ELKS LODGE #832 Grapevine Express Commitment ~ Communication ~ Collegiality February, 2015 VOLUME 93 / ISSUE 11, CALVIN COX, EXALTED RULER NAPA CALIFORNIA MESSAGE FROM YOUR EXALTED RULER The first month of the new calendar year is almost over. We started out with a fantastic New Years Party. Thank you Marilynn and committee. I know we had a great turn out for our Mike Stornetta Memorial Crab Feed; 190 people plus. Thank you Sandy and crew of many. I know our Boy Scout Troop #832 had a lot to do with the success of this event. Thank you from all of us for a job well done. We have two events coming up in February; the Valentine's Day buffet dinner (Feb.13th) and the Cioppino Feed (Feb. 25th). Please come out and support your Lodge and join in on some great food and fun. I know this bulletin is sent to all the Lodges in our district and I would like to extend a welcome to all Elk members and their families and friends to join us in any of our events. I know you will enjoy great food and a fun time. Speaking of fun times, on Jan. 18th sometime in the early morning my 76 year old appendix decided it had enough so it swelled up and wanted out. It was removed before it exploded, thank God. The recovery instruction sheet says your body will work fine without an appendix which is good news, because I can't afford to lose anything else. It also says I won't have to make any changes in my diet or lifestyle which is too bad because I could use a few changes there. It says I should return to normal in about 3 weeks. I am not sure whether that's good or bad. I know the only way to go from here is up, because if I go down any further I won't be coming back. Fraternally, Calvin Cox, Exalted Ruler FROM YOUR LODGE SECRETARY Hello All! January flew by very fast! Our annual Crab Feed was very well attended with a sold-out crowd of 190 people. Everyone had a great time. The crab was awesome as was the pasta and salad. Charlie Baker kept everyone dancing to his great music. The 50/50 raffle was won by Lauren Orris and the rest going to the Building Fund. Thank you to everyone who donated wine and other great items for our silent auction. Also, thank you to everyone who donated to the dessert auction. A special thank you to Pam and Byron Orris for all their donations to the silent auction and for all their hard work in putting it all together.. It was awesome! Last Wednesday night, January 21st, we initiated a new member, Michael Zuniga. He is a native Napan and the father of four. We hope he will come often and get involved in the Lodge. As most of you know, Vallejo Lodge #559 has closed. We hope a lot of their members will consider transferring their memberships to Napa Lodge. I will be happy to help them if they have any concerns. It is almost time to think about the New Year. That means new officers and committee members. Anyone interested in running for an office or joining a committee, please let us know. Also, anyone who is delinquent with their dues, will automatically be dropped from the roles on March 31st. Please don't let that happen! As a lot of you know, our Exalted Ruler, Calvin Cox, has been out of the Lodge for over a week. He had an emergency appendectomy and is recovering at home. We wish him well and hope he will return soon. Fraternally, Judy Fisher Napa Lodge Secretary FRIDAY NIGHT BBQ’s STARTED JANUARY 23rd TACO TUESDAY’s START FEBRUARY 3rd Our local Boy Scout Troop 832, which is sponsored by this Lodge was super helpful at our annual fund raising Crab Feed on January 17th. They efficiently served food and cleared tables. This event wouldn’t be the same without them. Thanks guys! Many, many thanks to this year's chairman, Marilyn Caldwell and her committee for a delightful evening. I know I sure appreciated all their efforts. The Rat Pack Theme and music were perfect, the appetizers and dinner were wonderful, and the Martini Bar was a big hit, I loved the Lemon Drops! Many of the folks dressed in the black and white theme and some of the gentlemen wore tuxes and ties. Also thanks to all the kitchen staff, bar staff, waitresses, Vivian for flowers and John for the pictures, good job everyone. After the New York New Years the DJ kicked the music up a notch and the dancing began. Another thank you to Gilda for supplying the van and driver to assist folks home. Napa Elk's welcomed in 2015 with a bang. CRAB FEED: This year's Crab Feed was a sellout, almost 200 folks enjoyed the evening. I don't mind telling everyone as the chairman this was a big undertaking for me, especially without Mike Stornetta. I looked like a deer caught in the headlights for most of the day and evening. But, we got though it and here is the good news, we have a new crab feed chairman for next year, Pam and Byron Orris will be 2016 Crab Feed chairmen. YEAH! My many thanks to many people. First, Sabine did a wonderful job on the Stornetta sauce. Volunteers for the crab feed were Lee Joiner, Peter Quilici, The Mc Farlands, The Biggs, The Fishers, The Whites, The Reeds, The Days, Pam and Byron Orris, Roy White & son, Richard Bugaj, Marilyn Caldwell & committee, Lindsay Wanagel, Dave Bridges & Sholly Terry, Tim Horton, Janis Mousa, Don Parrish, Jan Schreiber, Patty Tomlinson, Sandy Cordero, Connie Buckles & Daryl Nix, Ron Rae, Cal Cox, Becki Brooks and Dave Silveira. Hope I didn't forget anyone. Charlie Baker and family did a super job of keeping us entertained with fun music. More thanks to our Boy Scouts they are always awesome and we appreciate their efforts. The Raffle brought in $700.00 to the winner (the other half to the Hall’s Building Fund), and Dave Bridges did a Live auction item and that was won by Ron Rae. Many thanks to all the dessert makers...WOW! I was worried we wouldn't have enough and we had a full table of goodies. We were all happy to see Mike's daughter, Nikki arrive from Idaho for her Dad's memorial Crab Feed. Hope everyone enjoyed the 2015 Crab Feed, see you next year. (P.S. My apology to the lady who won a raffle prize, don't know her name. I got confused about checking ticket numbers and having the names on the back. I hope someone knows her and tells her I owe her a raffle prize.) FRIDAY NIGHT BBQ's and TACO TUESDAYs are back, please join us. SAVE THE DATES: Valentine's Dinner: Will be on Friday.
